1 Chapter 1: The Slums

It was an eerie night in the slums, the only source of light was the moon which seemed to be shining at a young boy that was running. The boy seemed to be hiding something in his bogus T-shirt, he was breathing heavily as he ran. He seemed like a shadow that would appear and re-appear constantly, when he reached what seemed to be his destination which was a shack.

You could not really call it a shack as it was made out of rotten boards and some old rags but it looked somewhat spacious for an eight year old boy. this little boy was called Leo. As you have guessed this is indeed Leo's house and where his journey begins.

POV: Leo

I can't believe I escaped that situation, I was so close to being caught but at least I got some bread. I just hope that nobody saw my face, i don't need people calling me a thief in the situation i am already in. I ate up the bread I just stole and immediately went to bed as I had just been running like my life depended on it.

As I got up and peered out the window ( just a hole in the wall) it was cloudy. Well it was not cloudy it was just the smoke coming from the "Industrial Park." Although it was called a park it was no place for human as it had the highest concentration of pollution in the whole of Star City. The park was only accessible to magicians who had an orange level magic core.

The reason that the slums was located near "Industrial park" was because nobody wanted a house in a place that was polluted. enough of the slums this story is about me so let us continue. I got up and immediately rinsed my mouth with some water as I had no toothbrush, then i stepped out of the house. When I stepped out of my house there was a very disgusting smell like always which came from the feces and vomit that came from the alcoholics and drug addict that roam the streets at night.

I ran to the local soup kitchen to get some food consisting of stale two week old bread on the verge of getting moldy with some soup that was at least 80% water. When I got my food i went to my spot (it is not really my spot but I am the only one who sits there) in the slums I am an outcast, it is very ironic since everyone one in the slums is an outcast but I suppose I am special. Everyone says I killed my parents but I know it was not true my mom died when she gave birth to me but my dad died six years later because of his illness.

I have been alone for six years and I have become used to it which was easy because i never like to interact with others. I am not shy but I never had an interest in anything other than my self along with magic and I intend to keep it that way. I ate my food slowly and savored each bite (even though there was not much to savor). I had not eaten any kind of meat in the last few month and the soup kitchen only provided protein from the occasional canned beans they had which was given by the government. the can really just had a brown liquid in it with a bit of beans.

Although it seem like our society is not advanced but that is just the slums, we live life as it comes. although I say we live life a lot of people take their own life and for food the would take another persons life.
