1 The Little Lady

"Come visit New York with me!" My childhood friend smiled for the first time that day.

He doesn't smile very often so how could I refuse the adventurous request?

"Why New York? You could go anywhere you wanted but yet you think of that trashy place?" I turn my whole body in his direction to look at him from my place on the couch. He waves a hand in the air, batting away the negative comment.

"It's not that bad! I need to visit my sister and I want you to come. Plus, I heard that a statue is looking for love~" His smile becomes a smirk. Having a best friend who believes in curses can be quite bothersome sometimes. But to go to such extent to need to see it for himself despite the fact New York is hours far from Florida - is definitely the worst. The statue he rambles on about all the time, the Little Lady. It was unknown how that small statue got there but it sure is a sight. It was believed that when her soulmate touched her, the curse would be broken and she would become human again.

I can't believe you still believe in that crap." I turn back around and glue my eyes back to the TV in front of me, not paying attention to him.

"Come with me. Our flight is tomorrow morning so have your bags packed!"

"Tomorrow!?"

"Weren't you glad you came out with me?" He nudges my shoulder.

The weather in the city was on the colder side. We both were under dressed. We soon realized our mistake but it was too late to fix it as we had already packed summer clothes (which was understandable since we had came from such a hot state). Still, we probably should've checked the weather forecast.

"You said we were meeting your sister here, where is she?" I crook my neck to find the older woman.

"Yeah about that..." The younger said.

"We didn't come here to visit her, did we?!"

"I'm sorry! I've just always wanted to come here." He smiles. Smiling should be banned at times like this.

"Well since we're here, we should check and see if one of us has a statue for a soulmate!" He points at the stone woman. She was right in our eyesight. How unironic.

"Oh please-"

"Just one picture! Just to prove I'm keeping up with the trends?" He pleads.

"Fine!"

He runs over to hug the woman and smiles, with teeth, for the camera.

"Hm guess it's not me then." He takes the phone from me and pulls his lips down in a pout.

How does he actually believe this stuff?

"Go on, your turn!"

I sigh and wrap my arm around as much of the concrete woman as I could.

"Okay, smile for the-"

Suddenly, a weight forces me on the ground. Before I could even process what had happened, people were screaming, shouting - scattering. I glanced around hurriedly at the commotion just to come to the conclusion that a woman - that had been just as confused as me - was on top of me, blinking.

"What... what is-"

"I told you it was real." Just then the only person that hadn't crowded around the scene stood there smirking.
