6 Chapter four

It had been a week since he had discovered the way to do the levitation charm, and much had changed since then. for one, he and Shiro now lived in a rather cozy cave they had found under the roots a giant oak tree.

Second were the discoveries he had started to uncover about his wand, and how magic worked for him!

it seemed as if he had some form of well in his chest, that was filled with what he assumed was some form of raw energy that he could manipulate into his wand and 'spark' spells, but what he swiftly noticed was that the two only spells he knew had two rather different distinct differences in how they operated.

The 'Tempus' spell seemed to take the spark from his surroundings and not himself, and lasted for as long as he wanted. he theorized that this was due to it taking what he dubbed as 'Ambient Magic' and using that to tell the date. so the spark seemed to be maintained by the Natural magic surrounding it.

While "Wingardium Leviosa" was a spell purely dependent upon him, after perhaps hundreds of casts he had started to build an intimate understanding of how the spell worked.

The first was that the flick of the wand operated almost like a key to accessing the spell, and therefore remained a requirement whereas the Incantation swiftly became obsolete after his hundredth spell cast. so in essence he realized that the incantation probably functioned as a key phrase to help the general masses visualize the effect of the spell and therefore generating enough intent for the spell to execute the desired effect and take hold.

Whereas he, simply needed the flick to ignite the spark that was the levitation spell in the wand, and fuel it with what he now lovingly dubbed his 'Yang' to fuel the spark into a flame. this flame is what powers the spell, and the bigger the object he wanted to carry, the bigger the flame needed to be, therefore requiring a large stream of his Yang to maintain the flame.

And that's where he noticed his limits, as his body could only take so much Yang raging into his wand before he started to feel strained and fatigued. but after much practice, it seemed that his body had developed some form of pathways in his body and those pathways could be trained with constant use as a muscle.

And that's why he was now laying lazily on the branch of a tree, wand in hand and a playful smile on his face as he levitated the branch away from Shiro´s mittens of death again.

"Better luck next time sweety" he giggled to himself as Shiro tumbled after the branch again, this was his new way of not only training his magic but also entertaining Shiro as they had stayed in their cave area for the past week due to him not wanting to explore before the Levitation spell was mastered to the point he could instantly lock on to a target, spark and then ignite the flame effortlessly.

...

Which he accomplished yesterday, but the thought of the potential dangers in the woods made him hesitate to explore, which was something he couldn't do anymore as they had run out of fruits and berries to forage from the nearby area.

That meant that he not only needed to explore and hunt for meat but that he had to scout for potential dangers as well.

"Those novels back on earth never talked about how utterly terrifying being in an unknown world is, and most of them always end up in some form of advantageous position where they could gather information and exploit resources. not in some form of survival game on magical steroids" he chuckled to himself as he made the branch do a smooth pirouette away from Shiro´s pounce of doom.

But as he kept on laying there and playing with Shiro, he steeled his resolve to head out in the morning for maximum daylight. he had heard the howls at night, and he would rather not meet their owners.
