1 Chapter 1

"Military Recruitment Center," a plaque large enough to occupy the view of the entire Z-city.

One only needed to look up and immediately enter the focal point of the citizens here. The building was so tall that it could easily be seen even on the border of the city.

Yu walked towards the military center building, but couldn't help but look back. On the other side of the city was the large building of the scientific research center. Although it was two floors smaller than the military center, it also loomed large within Z-city. His nonchalant expression changed for a few seconds, reflecting a faint trace of regret before returning to his normal self, as if it never happened. He turned his head forward and without any other feeling, walked leisurely towards the entrance.

With a heavy heart, he still couldn't believe what was happening to him. He did not know if what he experienced was a bad dream or he was actually dreaming right now. He was a scientist. Everything that surrounded him could be solved with mathematical calculations, with logic, and science. But what he was experiencing was out of all common sense. He never believed in fantasy or fiction, but he had certainly been reborn in a body that was not his. He possessed all the memories of the original body. Yu Evans, a citizen of a small district near Z city. He had no family and no friends. He lived repressed since he was conscious, by the other boys in the same district for the fact that his area was the poorest. He was not a smart man, but he was a hard worker and all he wanted was to get a job in the arms factory as a little assistant or messenger. Working in the factory was already a great achievement for the small district where he lived. Because it is a small area and it was not even considered a city, working there was the highest I could hope for. Since he was not smart, he never dared to think about getting beyond being a little assistant. His next goal in life was to find a kind-hearted woman to marry. He also did not dare to think if his future partner would be a graceful woman. He was beyond grateful if a woman took notice of him with what little resource he had. The world he lived in today was realistic. The only people who could choose were the elites of the cities. The so-called military and the gifted scientists, where they congregate all political powers. The rest of the mass could only live in subjection under their shadow. But, although the military and scientists were the most revered in this world, no one dared to apply to be a military man. Being a military man was synonymous with setting foot in hell. Life hung by a thread. The danger was not only outside the city with thousands of mutants expected to feed on humans, but inside the barracks with abysmal and strenuous training. There were so many deaths from superhuman training that no person wanted to risk their life. They preferred to live subdued and calm, than full of privileges and dangers. A military man did not live to see the future, since they were sentenced to die in any mission.

Applying to be in the military was out of the conversation for most of the mass, but so was being a scientist, as you didn't just have to have a high IQ to run. They had to be featured. Not everyone could enter through the doors of the scientific research center. If an ordinary citizen was only going to try his luck, considering that he was not intelligent, he would lose practically half of his monthly payment. No one was willing to pay such a high price if they weren't sure of their ability. The payment rule was implemented so that the masses did not crowd the doors of the science center. Since being a scientist was one of the two most prestigious professions in this world.

There were some exemptions for payments, and it was for ordinary school graduates. Graduates could take their exam directly, but if they failed, the only chance to be re-evaluated was to pay like any other citizen.

Unlike the science center, any citizen was welcome to apply to the military center.

The original body did not know who it had bothered to play such a bad joke, but a week ago, it received a decree to appear before the military building. His application had been accepted to be a conscript from Military Barracks Z.

When he received the letter, his whole world fell apart. For the first time he wanted to kill someone. To the person who had done this to him, but had no strength. His world was turned off and a fear rose strongly taking root within his soul. As if it were an empty shell, I walk long distances to reach the district sea. With a lost look and without any other thought, he jumped into the sea and drowned.

The strong waves broke the sea, dragging the body towards the shore, and when Yu opened his eyes again, his old soul occupied the body of the twenty-three-year-old, inheriting the memories of the body.

The previous Yu's expression of emptiness and fear was replaced by a calm and indifferent gaze.

With a sigh he looked up at the sky. "Since when was dying so difficult?" he uttered aloud before getting up and leaving for the original body house.

Returning from his thoughts, he cast his gaze on the line of a crowd of people, waiting to be served. She read the new recruits board and got behind the last person. He turned with an incredulous expression as he looked at Yu, but quickly turned as a thick voice of a man spoke the word "next" with a trace of exasperation. Two minutes later, the voice sounded again indicating that it was his turn.

The six-foot-tall man regarded him with disdain. "But look at this squat, if he even looks more fragile than a girl. Who gave you the guts to apply? " Laughter from the group rose within the great hall. Yu was too lazy to be bothered by other people's actions. His physical complexion was not much different from his past body, and as for his face, he did not bother to compare with his former self. He only looked at himself in a mirror for five minutes to verify that he had really taken the body of another person and if he had not been dreaming.

He remembered his new features, although he hadn't considered himself the icon of masculinity, he hadn't seemed as fragile as a girl, either. Apparently the six foot man was disgusted enough with his work that he had to take it out on him, because of the slimmer build of the recruit group.

"My name is Evans Yu, sir. This is the acceptance letter. "He handed the man a folded letter. Not appearing to have bothered him, the six-foot man became more enraged.

"Are you sure you're not the sister in disguise? It is a serious crime to impersonate another person "she scoffed again. Yu inwardly sighed toward the tactics of intimidating the new recruits. "Why doesn't he answer, did he eat your tongue?" Several looks of pity fell on him, but no one dared offend the man who seemed to be able to twist anyone's neck with one hand easily.

"No" was the only thing he answered. Frowning, the six-foot man asked again. "No what?".

"No to all the questions he asked." Since Yu was so calm without a trace of disturbance or injury, it made the instructor more and more unhappy.

He prepared to hear the roar of the man again, but the appearance of two people silenced whatever he was going to say. Yu watched his change of state and a slight blush settled on the instructor's ears. She followed his gaze, her eyes resting on the man who was closest. A person with an androgynous appearance. Yu paid attention to the other people and almost everyone in the lobby had the same reaction as the instructor. He turned his attention to the androgynous-looking man, wondering if he had spread some aphrodisiac substance in the environment.

For the first time in his life, he had wanted to laugh at something other than a scientific discovery.

Without paying any more attention, he turned back to the six-foot man.

"Sir, do you have any other questions?" The calm voice rose from the silent hall and, as if snapped out of a reverie, he cleared his throat in shame. No longer doing the most difficult thing to Yu, he handed over an identification number.

With his identification number he went to another room for further instructions, but to cross to the other side, he had to go through the two men who had just arrived and who had indirectly assisted him. Yu turned his attention to the newcomers again, but stopped in a short second when he saw the second person standing behind the androgynous man. Their eyes met for that short span of time and for the first time, Yu felt the so-called danger, beyond any dangerous experience in the past. This one exuded an air so oppressive that it was difficult to breathe. The man was terrifying in every way, with hair as black as twilight night, a nose that fits perfectly, and eyes so deep that it appears to be a bottomless pit, he was truly beyond exotic beauty. despite possessing an attractiveness capable of destroying countries and waging war, it failed to disguise an aura of death.

Yu was not a person who was fixated on beauty, but even though he didn't mean to or wanted it, it was hard not to notice them. Unlike the androgynous beauty, the latter exuded sheer imposing masculinity and majestic. So much so that it made her feel like she was in front of a monarch.

The blurring of her thoughts only lasted a few seconds before returning to normal. Although his mind came to itself, the feeling of warning was still latent within him, telling him to stay away from someone so dangerous.

She had always had a keen sense of all things, making it easy for her to discern the intentions of others. Unlike the instructor, who, although he was triple the muscle making him look like a medium gorilla, did not emanate any dangerous intent. So Yu was calm enough to deal with him because it was clear that the instructor did not dare to go beyond verbal intimidation. The man behind the androgyne not only emitted a sense of danger, but was capable of killing anyone if he so desired.

"Thank you" Shifting his gaze to the androgynous person, he communicated his thanks in a low voice so as not to attract the instructor's attention. Although neither of them had opened their mouths to help him, it was certainly thanks to their presence that saved him the time of having to deal with the instructor.

He didn't know if his thanks were reciprocated and he didn't care. He only did it because he did not like to owe anything to others. The androgynous man smiled at him with a smile that did not reach his eyes, but Yu did not wait for the man to say anything, and without another extra look, he passed near them and walked to the other room. Before entering the door there was a slight commotion and a new voice asking the reason for their pleasant arrivals, but Yu did not turn around, showing his complete disinterest in the matter that did not concern him.

"Hello, where do you come from? I've never seen you in the city "greeted the boy who was in the line in front of him.

"Do you know everyone?"

"Hehe… the city may seem big, but you can still recognize the faces of most of the young people in the city. A requirement of living in the city is that all young people must enter the common school out of duty and since you seem to be the same age as me, and I have never seen you there, you must come from a district near the city "

"You said most, not all," he replied calmly. At first he did not think to deal with anyone, but right now he was no longer in a laboratory where he had knowledge of everything, but inside the military center and they will soon be transferred to a military barracks. Although he was not exactly looking for a comrade, it was not a bad idea to have a partner who could provide him with all the information. That way you wouldn't have to deal with more people. Yu's thought was to minimize contact with others, just as he did with the old man who took him for ten years. I hardly deal with anyone else but only with the old man. Since Yu did not feel any malice or hidden intentions from the sender, he was willing to take it as a source of information.

"Well, since you're pretty handsome, it wouldn't be easily overlooked" he replied with a touch of embarrassment. "I'm not gay," he hastened to explain, afterwards, as if afraid that Yu would think badly.

"It's okay, I don't care" he said without changing his expression. Surprising the young man, he observed him with wide eyes.

"you are…"

"No" he answered knowing the question beforehand. It was the first time he had carried on such a tedious conversation. Previously, you did not communicate with another person without it being for work. He never spoke to others about matters other than a topic that mattered. Conversations like these were what he always avoided. I only said what was strictly necessary. When he was still Hall, the few questions he had been asked about him could be answered with a yes or no.

"Oh… I'm not homophobic. Sorry for my reaction, since you said you didn't care, I thought that… well. My name is Allen Davis. "He held out his hand with a smile.

"Yu Evans" responded to his gesture. "I'm from District 8"

"Oh, it's quite a long way from this city. May I ask the reason for your application? " Allen watched him with a flash of pity. "Don't think twice, I'm not asking you for making fun, but… you seem more like a scholar than a soldier. I'm worried that your complexion won't hold up for the workouts here. So, if you applied for the benefits of a military, I advise you to think about it a little more since without life, no fame or benefit will matter "

"Don't you know that once the military center accepts you, you have no right to back down unless you pay a high price? That is why admission to the military field is so easy, because once you enter, you can only leave it if you die or are rich enough to do so "

"Yes ... I'm sorry, is that, when I watched you, I forgot the rules for a moment"

A loud, hoarse voice echoed through the room, cutting off any conversation between Yu and Allen. They focused on the person who spoke. A man in his forties with an imposing bearing looked at the group of new recruit in a mocking manner. "All so weak"

"It seems that this herd will not be very promising" says another winged man of the person who scorned them all.

"They don't even have the face of dying at the hand of a mutant. They seem to be going to die before leaving the safety zone. "A thunderous laugh rang out throughout the room. Everyone's faces turned green out of fear, some others were indignant, and Yu, as always, was as calm as if he was not part of the herd.

"Well, I'm Lieutenant Brown, your chief instructor. From now on, they will forget his name. They are conscripts and you have no right to be called by name. If you want to be remembered by others, get your own credit and achieve it. Once you have a badge, their names will be carved into the memorial stone to be honored once they die on a mission. If they are not able to do it, they do not deserve to be remembered. They just wasted our time and our assets raising useless garbage. From now on you are only allowed to give your identification number to others. "They each turned their gazes to their insignia.

"I'm Second Lieutenant Taylor, I'm also one of your instructors. I will be in charge of teaching them the use of weapons. My only word to you is to drop any thoughts and focus on a single goal which is to survive. Before worrying about whether they will survive outside the safe zone and survive a mutant. First worry about surviving in the barracks "

Once they finished giving the instructions, they each lined up to collect their uniform. Following instructions, they prepared to leave the city and enter the military barracks in zone Z. Everyone was waiting outside the military center building. At that moment Yu raised his gaze to the cloudy sky. He took a deep breath and was lost for a moment until Allen lost his balance hitting him hard. Yu frowned at the brief stab of pain beneath his chest. She had expected him to apologize by guessing what the boy's personality was like, when they spoke just now. But Allen was still frozen staring straight ahead, he didn't seem to realize that he had hit someone. Yu followed Allen's eyes and met again with the two men who had timely appeared in the hall. This time Yu did not pay attention to the man who emanated danger, but only focused on the androgynous man. Heeding the warnings in his mind, he decided to stay away from him as much as he could. Even making eye contact was reluctant. With a second chance at life, it was better to appreciate himself a little more.
