Chapter 2: A Contract

The moment Jacob came home he collapsed on the couch, he had just finished his 12-hour shift at the factory.

He had been working himself crazy for the last two weeks because his mom had just gotten into a car accident and was currently in a coma.

Apparently, she had gotten hit hard by a car that had crossed a red light, lucky she was admitted to the hospital in time and was able to survive. Though she was gravely injured and in a coma meaning she wouldn't wake up for a while.

As for the man who did it? Well, the moment Jacob heard who it was he could only swallow his anger and let the matter fly by, after all no amount of justice would be able to get that man in trouble.

Besides, it was a known fact that at least 2/3rd of the current police force in texas was in cahoots with gangs in some ways. The whole justice system was currently skewd.

With paying the already high house bills and the upcoming hospital bills, as well as the upcoming gang protection fee. Jacob wasn't making enough money, the only thing left for him was to join a gang or start selling his organs.

And that was something he promised his mother he would never do both of. After all, anyone who tried to sell an organ nowadays has a 75% chance of never waking up again.

'Looks like ima gonna have to take that shift tomorrow' Was the only thing Jacob could think of as his body screamed at him to eat something and rest.

Just as Jacob was about to scour his cabinet and fridge for some food he heard a sudden noise.

[Ding...]

The first thing that came to Jacob's mind was to get down and take cover.

'Fuck is the house getting shot at? Didn't I already pay the gangs their protection fee for this month?

As a person in a neighborhood that was controlled by a gang, Jacob had to pay a protection fee every week or he could be harassed and beaten until he either paid it, moved, or died.

And if a gang member robbed a house that had already paid the protection fee, the gang would immediately teach that person a lesson. Which would just be them cruelly paralyzing the gang member who broke in.

Well unless it was 'that' person.

[No ones there]

Suddenly a blue screen appeared in front of him.

"No way, Have I been working so much I've begun to hallucinate? I need a break." Said Jacob as he looked away from the screen ignoring its existence to go grab a bottle of water.

[Cmon now I don't really feel like playing a game of cat and mouse. You have 30 seconds to respond or you'll miss the opportunity of a life time]

Hearing the words of a blue screen again and Jacob lightly slapped his face to make sure everything was still real.

Calming himself Jacob looked back at the blue screen and took a deep breath.

"I can see you."

[Good, now Jacob would like to sign a contract?]

"Why would a system want to sign a contract? Don't you guys automatically bind to people?"

Before he dropped out of high school Jacob had a couple of hobbys and one of them was reading web novels. Naturally, when he started working he barely had the time or energy to read them anymore.

All his thoughts would be on how to earn more money, or how to escape the hell hole he called home.

[You don't need to know, anyway the contract is basically saying you will listen to all my commands and I won't devour your soul]

Looking at the so-called contract dozens of emotions and thoughts passed through his mind.

'YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!! THIS IS PRACTICALLY A SLAVE CONTRACT!'

Jacob clenched his hands and tried to calm himself down, after all, it was obvious whoever was controlling the system didn't care much about his reaction.

"What do I get out of this." Asked Jacob with his head down hiding the anger that was showing on his face.

[Now Jacob you should know what it means to have a system, no matter how trash it is, it's still a system]

[Honeslty I was gonna pick some horny random delusional teenager, but the moment I saw the situation of this world I just couldn't help but get an idea of doing something revolutionary.]

[Anyway, long story short will you accept the contract? I'm getting tired-]

"I accept," Before the system could go on any longer Jacob quickly accepted it.

After all, from what it looked like the system didn't really care if he accepted or not, plus he remembered what the contract stated.

'The system wouldn't devour his soul, didn't that mean that if it forcefully binded with him it could've devoured his soul whenever?'

'Besides I'm in no positions to reject a godsend gift like the system'

These thoughts quickly flashed through Jacob's mind when accepted the system contract.

Suddenly a new system interface appeared.

[System Contract

Party A: System: Felix#87293

Party B: Jacob Hansen

Party A agrees to not devour Part B's soul and in favor, Party B will listen to all of Party A's demands as long as they feel it won't put them in danger. Party A is also able to end the contract whenever they want and may not try to harm Party B directly in any way.]

Reading the contract a couple of times Jacob signed and signed his freedom away, ignoring that last loophole that allowed the system to harm him indirectly after the contract was canceled.

[Now let's start with your first mission]

[Mission: Get a blog website and application

-Website and application must be connected and must be able to monitor games.

Reward: Five player slots ]

Seeing his first mission a strange feeling flashed through Jacobs's heart, he was now under the command of a system. And unlike the novels, this one's personality was too real.

As for the task, it wasn't that hard, he learned a little programming when he was in school. Making the website wouldn't be the difficult part, the difficult part would be making the application and somehow getting it to monitor a game.

That would take more research and time, and if he was lucky he would be able to get the code online and just add it to his website. The problem now was that he didn't have a computer.

Well, he did have one until 'that' person broke it.

'wait.'

"System what are player slots?" Jacob asked to hope to get an answer.

[You don't need to know until you have the website and application up, don't worry you'll love them soon enough. For the website and application details don't worry too much about them I'll handle more of the complicating parts. All you need to do is get the website and application running. ]

[Now Just call me if you need something]

"Kinda expected that." Seeing the response Jacob didn't think much of it.

"Now I really need to eat before I think of any more plans"

----------------

Watching Jacob make a meal, Felix breathed a sigh of relief.

While it is true he could've just picked a new host if Jacob rejected the contract, It would have taken even more time, and going through hundreds of thousands of profiles really was too tiring.

"Now all I need is for him to finish the first mission, for now, I need to explore more of my power as a partial owner of a planet,"

----------------------

Jacob on the other had just finished his 'Meal' of ham and cheese. Just some literal ham microwaved with some cheese.

Going back to the couch, Jacob looked around and still felt that nothing had happened.

"Status"

[Name: Jacob Hansen

User Slots: None

Earnings: None]

That's all there was of the legendary system, looking at this status screen was the only thing telling Jacob that he had made a contract with a stystem.

"Now onto the system mission, it's actually pretty easy." Said Jacob.

Taking out his phone and downloading Liveerrr an app where you could hire people to do things for you.

Soon Jacob found the services he was looking for.

It was a girl who made both applications and websites, although she was a bit pricey at $250.

[Eva]: So what would you like?

[Msoix]: I want a website and application that are connected. The website is gonna be some type of forum where people can chat and the application should be able to monitor what game the person is playing. I also want them to be connected with each other.

[Eva]: Is that all??

[Msoix]: Yea also leave the naming to me. How quickly can you get this done?

[Eva]: How about the site color or font style? are you going to put ads well?

[Msoix]: That doesn't matter can you just do as I asked?

[Eva]: Sure I should have this done in two days.

[Msiox]: Okay.

---

After he was done placing his order Jacob immediately went to sleep, after all, he decided to go visit his mother in the hospital instead of work.
