8 Raid

Tap* Tap* Tap*

Boney finger tapped the cracked stone upon the thrones armrest. Staring blatantly at his system and the numbers with a twinkling light dimly sparking in his fiery eyes.

Rena bounded by the weaved rope of Lia's tendons, they were leathery, having been scorched and treated. For now they would hold. She had long fallen unconscious. Nothing more than her shattered arm to accompany her.. Not realizing she should have been dead, unaware that the green flame within kept her soul tethers intact.

He can't seem to affect anything until he upgrades the system. No matter what he tried, he couldn't find any hidden or extra tabs, pages or sub areas for upgrades, what a faulty system! Not to mention the system upgrade!

[upgrade system? cost: 500 SM]

500?!

That's too damn much! But its worth it if it gives him something more than this!.. 'So it must be done whether I like it or not'. Seems humans give an average of 40 per, so i must raze a city, suppose i have to keep my word.. Ha.. Let's get this underway.

But first he looked up to his knights. "Forget your old names, for when we finish the city we face soon, you all shall be renamed.. Those who remain, that is, I do not doubt some of you will die.. It is inevitable."

Duth looked down, acknowledging the silent nods. Returning to the topic at hand, he did like the bonuses, each 40 SM seemingly gives him 10% bonuses from merely having it with him. Granted should he spend he will lose these bonuses. Lets see where these go during my operation, before deciding to save on SM.  An operation came with risk and rewards. Rewards could be more SM and an upgraded system and a bigger army.. Although.. The raid could go badly.

That said, what if the percentiles were to better ease him into the system and after a while it would disappear.. Not unlikely right? Very uncertain about that.

Just the possibilities he sees are unfavorable to him. Sure he raids an unknown location, but what if he is in trouble? What's the escape route? How will he return from the hunt? These scrolls are a one time deal. Also will there even be a city? We will have to give it a try..

Closing his system. looking up at many undead troops. All of his troops in fact. except the coffins behind the pillars. he will wake them as well. Everyone is needed, after all he has a feeling they are his nobles.

"Wake up, meet us at the nearest city, if you arrive late.. You will be replaced."

Duth's wisping voice rumbled the stone coffins. Those within shifting. He nodded before staring at his small army and he was quite satisfied. Hundred-sixty skeletons, Ninety mummified zombies and Seven Death knights. In total Two Hundred Fifty Seven troops. Standing up he opened the scroll, targeting all his troops and himself. A massive array opened beneath. A tent of blue rising around them. As runes carved into the stone beneath them! Duth stared ahead, eyes glinting with a crimson hue, before the bodies of the skeletons and undead dematerialized. Duth's vision blanked as they all disappeared from the tomb. Just as the coffins cracked open.

A glower of powerful magic ruptured, shaking the tomb, yet the aftershock was just that.. An aftershock of teleporting so many. Now the stone beneath them lay carved in the same runes that made up the scrolls teleportation. Armies were supposed to be teleported, but how does a one man scroll do such?

Halon smirked at his coin purse just hidden beyond the stall where thieves couldn't see it. Was particularly full today. He loved market day, able to sell more of his wares than normal. As an alchemist this was simply great, normally not making much money.

Herbs, potions and paste for certain situations sold greatly today. His stocks are nearing empty. He had more coins than his purse could fit. Gladly he was given a chest for tax collections.

'The extra coin can pay off any missed tax I have and even surpass it. That will make the guardsmen more friendly to me. They normally are to folks who give donations.'

The market today was busling, children running through the crowds, men and women looking at the wares carefully. Examining items, selling and so forth the well packed cobbled street underfoot having no room to breath. Guardsmen in uniform with spears and swords watching the crowds intensely for unfortunate thieves or robbing's of the stalls. Even several sentries roaming in patrols.

He showed his wares more diligently due to the influx of coins. Advertising items of rarer quality and recommendations of certain paste or potions for adventure to bypasser's from outside.

It was high noon and the sun beat down on the market. High rising houses blocked the outer edges from the sun, shops open and cafes serving food. Walls far in the distance to the south and east. They were after all, in one of many market districts.

Halon happily watched the crowd with greedy eyes. Ignoring the strange shifting shadows to his right within an alleyway. However just because he ignored them didn't mean the guards did, a guardsmen took notice. Frowning at first as it grew in detail.

In an instant, hundreds of skeletons materialized in the market. Followed by almost a hundred mummified zombies. Seven 9'0" foot monsters of black wicked steel and magic. Finally a 7'6'' tall skeleton with a tilted rusted iron crown. Void black shadows wisping, flowing and smoking off his skeleton body. Eyes covered by a sea of blue fire from the sockets of many undead.

Silence fell over the market for only a single moment. As if these were illusions, eyes widening at the undead close by their clean bones and others with decayed withered skin. Terror took over taking their bodies, no move was made, until the undead king tilted its head slowly towards the crowd and guardsmen. He raised his black boney hand. Blue wisps gathered in his palm, scorching heat welling amongst the blue. Like a bullet, shoot across the market striking a man in between his eyes. Blood splattered as his head popped and dropped. Before a fury blast wave expanded rapidly up to a few meters!

BOOOM!

In that moment.

All Hell Broke Loose.

Guardsmen drew their swords dropping their spears quickly as several skeletons and zombies lunged into them overwhelming them and tearing into any exposed skin found. The screams of agony gave way to more terror and a mob of scared souls.

7 Death knights stepping forth to cut down any soul in their path, blood spraying their armor and swords. Bodies falling blood running in the gutters and along the street.

Whilst the army of undead came in and overwhelmed anyone near them. Bathing their bones and decaying flesh with warm blood. Those willing to fight took up the nearest weapon smacking, slashing, hitting to get away. Guardsmen infantry ran forth to engage the enemy and keep them at bay whilst the population ran to safety. Crossbow men fired their rounds in cutting down several skeletons by shattering them to pieces. Whilst the chaos and destruction waged in the market, bells tolled at an inside attack. More guardsmen ran into the market, clashing with pockets of undead, whilst green flames rose from dead bodies.

Duth harvesting any fallen lives. He can't mass harvest yet. So whilst the undead spread out, green fire with banshee screams beamed from the army. No one knew what was happening, but it was scary enough a spell casting undead king was amongst the enemy.

Not to mention each time the undead king bypassed bodies they blew up into green flame and then rose up from the dead to join the troops.

[Raise Dead has upgraded. [Lv.2]

[Harvest has upgraded. [Lv.2]

The battle raged across the market! Dozens of guards slammed into the dead at every turn. A few knights joined in from nearby noble houses! They had heard the commotion! "Evil roams! Form up on me!" Guardsmen fell back, locking shields around Sir Gabriel! The man draws his blade, the edge glinting. Duth frowned. 'Enchanted sword!'

He glanced at his death knights. They nodded, 4 of them blasting forward with an unyielding zeal!

"Stand strong-"

Pushhi "Ahg!"

They swiped their blades across weak shields and flesh, parting the guardsmen like warm cheese under a molten knife. Sir Gabriel clashed with one death knight, before parrying another death knight. He was driven back! "Guh.. Your strong" he parried again, before lunging under the second death knights attack coming up from under with an upper thrust! Klang! His blade slammed into their deceivingly battered tattered armor! It slid off, making the knight duck and roll, as one death knight paced back and anothers blade shattered the cobblestones where sir Gabriel once stood!

"Guh.. Fall back!"

Those who could run, did. Just as the knight did as well, he had to. This was a losing battle. He will have to regroup with surrounding houses and his own troops, before trying again.

Duth nodded "Smart knight" he pulled his death knights back. Thirdy or so bodies having risen from the ordeal. With the battle over and the war just starting. He continued to harvest and raise quickly. After his forces materialized he found he made a grave mistake taking this raid, sure the rewards are outstanding. However.. he noticed how big this town was, with big towns were big militaries and well equipped troops. Current ones they encountered had leather and plating here and there for vital protection. That ware must've been for the city, not combat outside it. So he was worried and gathered, there wasn't much time.

Estimating at least an hour before quality reinforcements arrive. No.. Maybe sooner, that knight was an elite unit. Likely there are a few or a few dozen in this town. He didn't like that prospect. The knight alone took on 2 death knights. Albeit briefly that spoke volumes of their skill.

With the market place bloodied, but secure he had his troops go no further till he was satisfied with their numbers. Be quick, but slow enough to conquer his goals. For now they were sitting ducks to crossbow men, in turn he had his knights take command of undead. Four of them defending him and setting up barricades against archer fire. Whilst three knights lead skirmish parties of fourty undead to harass pockets of nearby buildings, with humans of course.

His system displayed some satisfying results. Leaving him even more satisfied, they will move on soon, but first he opened his system to peer at the rising stats.. He wasn't disappointed
