Book-1 Chapter Four: Hunting Small Beast and Monsters

The animals near the village were not Magical Beasts but they aren't just normal animals either. They weren't magical beast but they were still Ranked Beasts within the species and large data of all the monsters that were strong enough to be rank by humans.

Ranking in this world's beast was slightly different from how Magis Millions World rank our beasts.

In this world, you have normal animals such as normal pigs, cows, and sheep. Tigers and lions are also normal animals. Next was the rank of wild animals, normally called Monsters- animals that are normally found nearby to villages and roads. Animals that are all limited within a certain strength, speed, and presences.

Next is the beast. Well, Magic Beast. Ranking above Monsters, Magic Beast isn't something that kids like Jin could take on- well, at least not yet. The Lord of the River, the Bulbasaur, was a Magic Beast.

In Magis Millions World, the Bulbasaur of that size was just a normal magic beast- but in this world, he was a Green Blood Magic Beast.

I am not sure if I can or should make up information on this world's monster/beasts ranking just because of the Lord of the River being a Green Blood Beast. So for now, just know that from a normal animal, next rank was monster, and then Magic Beast.

Due to lack of predator in this part of the world, all of the animals, monsters, and beast nearby was very big but weak. I noticed this a while ago that this part of the world was literally at the edge of this continent- so it made sense that there won't be any strong animal here.

The outer range of the forest has a wide range of small animals that are far larger than normal, but they are very weak compared to the animals that are deeper in. Currently, if I want to, I could conquer this whole forest but I won't.

Instead, I walked quietly and silently toward a tree and jumped on to the largest branch available there.

Overlooking the surrounding area, I could see a group of rabbits a little bit to the left. I could sense a larger group of animals to the right and just a little bit passed that group, was a large mammal of some kind.

I cast Wind and Wood magic on my body and legs and jumped into the next trees. My goals were the large mammal that I sense.

A couple of minutes later, I jumped silently on top of a large tree and looked at the large mammal that I found.

It was a large brown deer with three antlers and two tails. Height at 5 meters tall, 8 meters long, and about 3 meters width, this brown deer was very big.

However, this animal here was a passive animal. And no matter how large it was, its meats was not something that I want to eat- for now. That's because I can tell that this animal eats poisonous plants as its dietary. And that, was not good for the kids or me, currently.

I skipped passed by the large brown deer and move on toward the group of animal that I see earlier.

That group was a group of ... land Kroka? Was that what it was called? Kroka? It looks like a Bulbasaur but more alligator like. Only in this case, it has 12 legs and three tails along with large pair wings behind their back.

.... Land Kroka has wings?

I am very curious about this animal so I started to watch them and analyze them using magic.

Turns out that they are called Kroka because Kro- meaning wing- was a Sky attributes lizard, much like a dragon. Only they aren't from the draconic race but rather from the Ka- meaning crab- race.

So, Kroka= Wing Crab?

What the hell? They do have the legs that a crab does- but! They have meats like cows, deer, wolves, and a land animal does! Not sea creature meats! These Kroka aren't even crustaceans creature!

Still- Kroka's meats, shells - yes shells - and legs have a large amount of nutrition.

The amount of sodium, potassium, protein, fats, and calories that one Kroka has was enough for our group's daily needed in a month! It might not have any mana inside for cultivators and practitioners but at the current time, I will gladly take the Kroka over any mana infused monsters or beast any day. What the kids need right now was nutrition and food, not magical food!

Seeing and feeling that amount of nutrition within the Kroka had told me a couple of things about this world.

One, there is a large abundance of resources for the lives in this world. Two, there's something in the air that caused the animals, monsters, and beasts in this world to grows this big. Three, this world might have more mysteries than I can tell currently.

And if I am looking forward to unraveling those mysteries then it is nobody's business but my own.

I mentally shook my head and focus back on the Kroka in front of me.

For now, I only wanted to hunt three Kroka.

Reasons being that I cannot carry them all. I don't have any space or spatial rings, bags, or the likes at all. So, I cannot carry too many things without drawing the kids attention in the wrong way.

I summoned up a small rock and cast some wind magic around the rock, and throw it light enough toward the farthest Kroka- that had moved away from the group.

The Kroka perked up curiously at the sound behind him and move even farther away from the group.

The shells of the Kroka are slightly hard but the crack between each join isn't. I just had to aim for those.

I cast a small, but deadly, wind arrow and compressed it to the size of a needle. I aimed straight into the crack between the heads of the Kroka and the neck, right into the brain. The Kroka froze mid-action and its legs stop moving as it drops to the ground, soundlessly and silently.

With a flick of my finger, the corpse of the Kroka levitates towards me. I drop it by my side as I repeat my action for another Kroka.

When the second Kroka was also by my side, I used levitates both of them to the air and flew back toward the house.

When I get there, Jin was floating three feet above the ground and there were 9 balls of fire and earth hovering around him.

Oh? 9 balls already? Looks like Jin's ready to start training his body.

"Jin, you can stop now," I said to him as I drop the two Kroka down. The kids aren't here but I can sense that they all are inside the living room so I didn't worry.

Jin stops meditating and blinks his eyes at me. "Jenna - what is that?" His eyes were drawn toward the two Kroka carcasses.

"Kroka monsters. They are very good for soup and have a lot of nutrition value. Mother and aunt Fruz had made them for my family before and it was very good!" I lied with a straight face - not that he could tell.

"Oh?- oh, that's right. Jenna, Rebecca found some vegetables and some seeds so she picked them. They are in the kitchen," Jin said as he stretches his arms out. The bones in his back cracked as it adjusted themselves.

I nodded as I once again, cast the wind spell, an earth spell, and neutral spells to levitates the two carcasses off the ground. The wind spell was so that it will float above the ground, the earth spell was to manipulate gravity, and the neutral spell was so that the floating, levitating carcasses, will follow me.

I could have killed more Kroka because the limits that I can carry like this was a lot, but- doing so will cause Jin to be even more suspicious of me so I won't.

Besides, these Kroka was huge. Like, 5 meters tall, 13 meters wide, and around 12 meters in width. It weighed around 350 pounds each, without the shells, and with the shells, around 550 pounds. It is very big, these Kroka. Well, for the kids of this world.

So, the image of two large wings crab-like creatures following behind a small little girl was just... both very scary and yet funny.

The amusement with a dash of awe in Jin's eyes as he follows behind me was all that I need to know.

"We're back!" I called out to the kids as I and Jin went inside our house, with two large Kroka behind me.

"Welc- what the hell is that?!" Luke yelled out at his loudest voice. Shocked and surprised wasn't something that Luke could tolerate. So, he shouted out his surprise and caused the kids to come running.

"Sister Jenna?"

"Jin?"

"What happen?"

"Nii-san?"

"Big brother?"

""...."" Both I and Jin look at Luke with this 'not so impress' look on our face. Luke blushed bright red as he stretches his head with a sheepish look on his face.

"Oh wow! What's that animal? A crab? But- that's more like a spider crab... Hmmm, weird. Where did I see this animal from before?" Samantha tilted her head as she looks at the Kroka.

"Those are Kroka, Samantha. I believe that your dad and my uncle had caught one once a couple of years ago. My mom and aunty Fruz had made it into a large pot of soup and stew. Remember the village festival? Yeah, those soups were made by my mother and aunt Fruz."

At the memory, I could see Samantha drooling. There was a slight sadness in her eyes but the thought of food was more important to her.

So was Jin, Luke, and Deana. The others were far too young back then to know what I was talking about. So, only the older of us knows how good that soup tastes like. And now that I am here, it would only taste better and better, even without all of the ingredients that Jenna's mother had used back then.

"Okay, enough drooling. Go gather the ingredients. Tonight, we are having crab-pot!" I grinned at the kids.

"Yeah!!!" The kids, the smaller ones, yelled out happily and very motivated.

20 minutes later, the kids gathered all the ingredients that I want them to and were sitting around the kitchen table, waiting for me to finish cooking the dish.

While they were waiting, I had Jin and Rebecca goes gather some more Void mushrooms, if they can, and bring back some spices. Well, gingers, lemongrass, coriander, onion, and a couple of other spices that I had never seen before in Jenna's memory. Turns out that those herbs were cinnamon, stars anise, and cumin.

They don't look like it but they are it, okay?

Now, then. Since all the ingredients are here, it's time to prepare and cook everything.

I chopped the spices, greens vegetables, and smashed the shells of the Kroka's leg for air to flow into the meats.

Then, I had the kids help me mashed all of the spices and vegetables into puree texture. While the kids were smashing and puree the other ingredient, I separated each joint of the Kroka's legs into smaller pieces. And then, smashes the shells- again- to create a lot amount of crack and holes on the shells.

"Jenna, we're finished. Now what?" Jin asked as he washes his hand.

"Pour those into the pot and add three gallons of water into it," I said as I continue to smashes, cracked and separate the Kroka's legs.

"Samantha, could you get 1 cup of Salt Milk?" I asked Samantha, who had just finished cleaning the workspace that was used to smashes the other ingredients. Salt Milk was salt refined from boiling and refining the Balint Milk. It has a very pure contain of salt, or sodium chloride, and a very small amount of iodide, but it tastes a little creamy so we called it Salt Milk instead.

A cup of salt milk was the equivalent of 4 tablespoons. 4 tablespoon of Salt Milk wasn't enough for a 3 gallon of water with other food in it. But in this recipes, that's enough for taste.

Samantha nodded as she went to the cabinet with the sack of salt milk and took out exactly 1 cup of it. She pours it into the pot and stirred it with the mashed up ingredients.

"Jin, could you start the fire?" Rebecca asked Jin as she continue to stirred the pot's contains.

Jin nodded as he went to the kitchen to start the fire.

While Jin was getting the makeshift cook-top, I place the legs of the Kroka- a 4 meters long beg, on the largest kitchen counter that we had.

The kids all look excitedly at the table while I grab the cooking pot- filled with all of the other ingredients. I used a small wooden cup to scope out a cup of the liquid that's already been mixed thoroughly and pour it into the cracks on the Kroka's legs. The kids all look both confused and yet anticipating as I pour the liquid on the Kroka's legs.

I repeat this until half of the inside of the Kroka's inner shell was filled with the liquid.

Next, I put one leg that's filled halfway with the seasoning liquid on the cooking crate that's over the fires Jin had made. The other legs was submerged into the liquid in the pot and was cooked with its shells on inside the pot.

One was being baked over the fire while the other is being cooked within a pot.

Not even five minutes later, everyone's stomach growled as the aromatic smell of herbs, spices, and meats came together into a very savory smells that caused all the kids, included me, to swallow our saliva.

The smell of the ginger, galangal, lemongrass, onion, and garlic was so delicate that it makes the aroma come together in a balanced and rich way.

In a way, this was teaching the kids to learn how to resist temptation. In another way, this was teasing them with the smell. No one seems to notice that my eyes are glittering with amusement in them, not even Jin since he too was drooling.

Five minutes went by and the leg that was baking over the fire was boiling. Now, nearly all of the liquid had evaporated already, leaving behind the herbs, spices, and vegetable greens over the meats of the leg.

"S-sister Jenna, is it ready yet?" Nobody blames Arise's stuttering when she asked that question. They all weren't any better.

"Yeah, is it ready?" Minna and Hilsa both asked at the same time while drooling.

"In a bit. Wait for a bit more," I said as I turn the baked legs to the other side while stirring the soup pot.

I added two more cups of Salt Milk over the baked legs- over the shells and on it. When the fire hit the salt milk over the shell, it turns bright red and then white. Causing the salt to crystallize and encased the whole leg inside. Once every corner of the legs was encased in crystallized salt, it was ready.

I used magic to levitates moved the Kroka's leg to the table.

The kids all move to the kitchen table- or no, the dining table.

Rebecca, Jin, Luke, and Lurin helped prepared the dishes and place them on to the dining table for each of us.

"Okay, come on guys. Go wash your hands and face first!" I yelled at the kids as I moved the boiling pot on to the dining table. Good thing that the dinner table was not wood but rather stone, so I have no fear that it would burn with the boiling pot of stews on top of it.

The kids, even Jin, all rushed toward the sink- where it was connected to the outside water tank.

By the time that they all finish washing their hands, there was already two pieces of Kroka meats- which, strangely wasn't like crab meat but, rather it looks like white meats from domestic fowl instead.

It looks like fowl meats but tastes like red meats. Which was just- yeah- weird.

Although the kids were confused by the taste of the meats, I wasn't confused by it. Why? Because out of all the meats that I had eaten before as Megie Moonshine - none of them was normal by any mean.

Not only that, the kids were hungry enough to not care about which kind of meats it was. They only know that it tasted so damn good and delicious that they will never forget about it.

Not only was it nutritious, but it also tastes so damn good too.

Jin literally has tears in his eyes as he eats it.

Later that day, while everyone else was studying their math and writing skills, Jin asked me a very weird question.

"Who are you, really?" Jin had asked, eyes filled with a solemn, worry, and hopeful look.

I was collecting the shells from the Kroka after it has no more nutritious value inside when I stopped dead in my track. A shiver went up to my spine.

I sighed. This boy... he really was far too perceptive for a boy his age.

I think that what gives him the clue was when I had accidentally cried when I think about 'him'. If he was only suspicious before, now he truly knew that I am not the former Jenna anymore.

After all, between I and Jenna Loveheart, we are far too different.
