8 Interlude 1: Uchiha Massacre

*These events happen before those of the original work... Motive? ...is fanfic...*

POV: Mikoto Uchiha

My name is Mikoto Uchiha and I am the proud mother of two kind children. I can't say I have a happy family, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.

The eldest is Itachi Uchiha, he is silent, but he cannot hide the love he feels for his family and village. He is very talented, to the point that everyone says he is a genius who is born every 100 years. My second son is Sasuke Uchiha, he is lively and can't hide how he feels, every time I see him chasing his brother, he brings a smile to my face.

Despite being Uchihas, neither of them is proud, and because of that, the other clans do not look at us with the same expressions they give to other members of our clan.

My husband, so to speak, is named Fugaku Uchiha and despite being married, we have never loved one another we have only had relations twice, and from them, Itachi and Sasuke were born. He on the outside proves to be firm and fair but I, who have spent so much time with him, can see his thirst for better status in the village.

All the while I ignored him, as I saw no reason to speak out because, despite his ambitions, he never did anything to affect the village, at least that was until I heard his conversation with the clan elders.

Flashback

I was looking for my husband so that I could talk about Sasuke and the Ninja Academy, but I could not hide my surprise when I heard something that made my blood run cold.

Elder 1: "Are you sure you want to do this, Fugaku-sama? If the village finds out about this, not only will we be sentenced to death, but our entire clan!"

Fugaku: "Don't worry, there won't be any problem. We haven't left any traces to prove our guilt or aims..."

Elder 1: "But Fugaku-sama! This will not only affect our clan but all of Konoha! The other clans will not stand by when we stage a coup!"

Elder 2: "Pff, such a time of peace has softened you, remember that we are the Uchiha clan! We are the elite in the shinobi world!"

Elder 3: "Calm down! Not that I'm taking his side (Elder 1) but you have to understand that there's some merit to what he says. We have to know when to attack because if we do it wrong..."

Fugaku: "SILENCE! This plan is already being put into action! Danzo promised me Hokage's position and to increase the power of the clan if we overthrow Sarutobi. Not only that, but we'll also ally ourselves with Minato. You may not know it but the stupid blond was defeated by the demon fox. Kushina Uzumaki brought him back and Hiruzen ordered Minato to have his chakra sealed. Hmph, that jerk did a lot of stupid things and the other clans couldn't take it anymore..."

"Kushina-chan is back!" - I thought - "But how come she hasn't come to see me yet?"

I quickly put Kushina's return aside, this subject was too sensitive to scream about because my best friend still didn't visit me.

Fugaku: "According to Danzo, there's someone who wants to cure him, but it won't be anytime soon, so we'll have another ally."

Elder 4: "Fugaku-sama, you know that Danzo is also looking for Hokage's position... How do you know he won't betray us?"

Fugaku: "Simple, Danzo wants the eyes of all our dead Uchihas and his partner wants a talented young Uchiha for an experiment, so I was thinking of giving them Sasuke because Itachi is too much potential to be left out of our clan"

"YOU BASTARD! YOU WANT TO SACRIFICE MY BABY! Breathe... Calm down..." - I shouted in my thoughts, but quickly forced myself to calm down - "THAT BASTARD! I can't let him do this to Sasuke! I have to tell Hiruzen-sama..."

POV: Itachi Uchiha

I was coming back from my training, when I saw my mother running out of our house, for some reason today she feels a dark aura coming out of her - "Kaasan?"

"Itachi, come, follow me, we have to go to Hiruzen-sama" - my mother told me, although you could tell she was worried about something.

"Yes, mother..." - I could only nod, I knew something had happened with my 'father'.

I may not have said it, but my father was a real bastard. I knew that he didn't marry mother for love, but for the elders of the clan but I couldn't stand the thought of hitting him when he was having affairs and didn't have the decency to at least hide it.

The entire clan knew what my parents' relationship was like, and I even had a few fights overhearing some young men speak ill of my mother, to the point that I almost killed them. Since that day no one has spoken about her, although I have to thank that Sasuke never heard such rumors, but that does not change the fact that even he has no affection for Fugaku-sama.

As we ran towards the Hokage Tower, my mother told me about what she heard.

I could only clench my fists to hear how my 'father' wanted to sacrifice Sasuke - "I know he never wanted us as a family, but how can you sacrifice your son! Even animals don't kill their cubs!"

My level of affection that was non-existent was turning to hate the more I listened to my mother.

"Itachi, while I talk to Hiruzen-sama, please look for Sasuke. They may do something to him before time" - without thinking I did what my mother asked, I knew it was likely they would go after Sasuke, after all, he was a card they could use to speed things up and I could not allow them to hurt my little brother.

POV: Mikoto

After seeing my son leave, I went straight to the Hokage's office, no time to lose, that was all I could think about.

I approached the secretary, told her my name and told her I had an urgent SSS business to discuss with the Hokage. Maybe it was my expression or the rank, but she rushed into the office to tell him the situation. It wasn't even 5 seconds after she came in that she heard a response.

"Go ahead!" - Said the voice from inside the office.

"Excuse me, Hiruzen-sama, I need to talk about something very urgent and it has to be just the two of us!" - I said in a quickened tone.

"That'll do, Mikoto-chan, I have to inform you that Kush..." - The Sandaime was going to warn me about Kushina's arrival and he couldn't finish, because I interrupted him.

"Sorry Hiruzen-sama, that can wait until later. What I have to talk about can affect all of Konoha!" - I know it was rude, but the problem we're in is too serious to have any talk about the past. Old Hokage, he got serious and made all the Anbus present retreat, then he looked at me and asked - "Now, Mikoto-chan... What do you want to tell me?"

"Hai, Hiruzen-sama!" - From there I explained everything I heard, Fugaku with his coup plan, Danzo's help, and an unknown black hand, and their plan to use the eyes of the Uchihas and the inclusion of my son Sasuke in the experiments. After listening to everything I said, his expression became more and more serious, to the point that no emotion was left on his face. A few seconds passed and he called his Anbus - "Call all the clan leaders and tell them to come... there is an emergency SSS level..."

"Hai!" - It was heard and then all the shadows disappeared. When he saw his ninjas leave, Hiruzen turned to me and said - "Mikoto-chan... I thank you for telling me all this, maybe a few days later this will turn into an internal war that our neighboring nations would wish for with all their power..."

"I promise that the children and elders will be forgiven" - He continued to speak to me with a calm voice, but I could feel the pain in my chest - "But Fugaku, the elders and a large number of ninjas from your clan who participated in this rebellion, will be ruthlessly exterminated, even your clan may be left without ninjas. I only hope that the seeds left behind after the fire burned their trees, can germinate without fear or hatred with the forest that protects them..."

In Hiruzen's eyes, I could only observe tiredness and deep sadness. We all knew how much he loved the village and its clans as a family. He was the complete definition of the Will of Fire, but that could not change the fact that the betrayal of one of his family caused him to open a newly healed wound.

Hiruzen watched the village through his window, as he remembered his three students, particularly one, who was responsible for the pain he felt at the time.

POV: Sasuke

My name is Sasuke Uchiha, despite being the son of the clan leader, I have no respect for him.

I was, as always, training to fulfill my dream of defeating my brother Itachi... you may not know it, but he is the strongest ninja in the world and someday I will be stronger than him.

As I was headed back to my house, I heard a little girl crying. My mother always taught me that if I saw someone crying, I should stop and try to help.

She was a little girl with pink hair and green eyes, although they were a little red from crying she had hurt herself while playing. When I heard footsteps, she looked at me for a few seconds and then blushed, it was strange... Maybe she had a fever?

Her name was Sakura Haruno. She was returning from playing with her friend and not realizing it, she tripped and hurt her ankle.

Who knew a few days later I'd regret helping her?

But back at the beginning, I couldn't just watch her suffer, so I went over and asked her where she lived.

When I saw that she couldn't walk, I told her to get on my back and I would take her home.

While she was on my back, I could see that she was even redder. I thought she was sick, so I made sure she knew that I would get her home as soon as possible to rest, which caused her to be sad for my greatest confusion.

As I left her, she asked my name and address to see if she could pick me up to play with her and since it was boring just to train, I answered her questions, not knowing that an era of terror would begin.

After saying goodbye, I turned the corner, but I ran into some men with strange masks.

"Come with us boy..." - Said one of them.

For some reason, I could feel that they didn't mean well, so I did what every person with any brains would do in this kind of situation, run like I had a paper bomb up my ass, but it didn't have much effect since they caught me in a few seconds.

"I guess it's going to be the hard way," said another as he pulled out some kind of medicine, probably a sedative or paralytic.

At that moment the fear consumed me, but to my relief, it didn't last long because I saw a familiar silhouette appear.

POV: Itachi

When I got to the place where I felt Sasuke's chakra, I saw 4 Root Anbus trying to catch it, and without thinking I threw myself at them.

The first two were easy, one died while I was slitting his throat with my kunai and the second one pierced my forehead with the same one, after throwing it when the life of the first one was over.

Realizing that two of his companions had died, one stood on guard to fight, while the other took Sasuke.

"I'm going to finish quickly... Katon: Gokakyu no Jutsu"

They didn't know that I could do the seals so quickly, because the one who was slowing me down, took my Jutsu straight away.

"It seems that Kaasan was right..." - I said in a cold voice.

The Anbu Root was surprised for a few seconds and this was more than enough.

I quickly used a Shunshin no Jutsu to appear behind the Anbu and slit its throat.

Seeing that there were no more enemies present, I sighed and walked over to Sasuke to try and pick him up, but...

"Nii-san! Look out!" - I heard Sasuke warn me and instinctively moved, only to have a kunai pierce my shoulder.

"ARGH!"- I could only scream in pain as I cursed for being too complacent.

"Hmph! As expected from a genius, just a warning and you managed to avoid a mortal wound" - I could hear the Anbu walking towards us - "But you're still so young, that pride of being a genius was your weakness"

"I have the target and an extra, Danzo-sama will be pleased," said the Root Anbu, as he threw another kunai at my extremities.

I could not avoid them, I had Sasuke behind me and I could not let them hurt my little brother.

But before they could reach me, they were blocked by a silver-haired young man who was reading an orange book cover - "Ara? Itachi, you look bad."

"You still have your weird hobby, huh, Kakashi? But you could get a girlfriend or something instead of reading that." - I replied with a painful grimace.

"Hmph! You know nothing of the mysteries of being a man, you will die alone and virgin, Itachi the human Arctic..." - Kakashi said as he continued reading his book.

"I don't want to hear you say that, Kakashi the Perverted Cyclops" - I replied in anger.

The two of us started arguing as the Root Anbu tried to escape, but before he could move Kakashi was already in front of him, slitting his throat.

"We'd better get you to the hosp..." - But before Kakashi could finish, I lost consciousness knowing it was all over on my end.

Mother... I hope nothing happens to you and that everything goes well...

POV: Mikoto

"Calm down Mikoto... everything will be fine..." - I thought while my concern was at its peak. I haven't heard from my children but as much as I wanted to go and find them, I can't do it right now, why? It's because I have my husband in front of me.

"WHY DID YOU BETRAY US, MIKOTOOOOO?!" - Fugaku asked me angrily.

"Why? Simple!" - I shouted angrily - "How dare you use my son as an object?!"

"There have to be sacrificed for the greater good!" - he answered without hesitation.

"Then why don't you sacrifice yourself?!" - I asked him sarcastically.

"You know, Mikoto?" - said Fugaku with disdain - "I had planned to let you live, your genes made two magnificent Uchiha geniuses"

"I thought I could leave you as a breeding machine for Uchiha geniuses" - He said with a look full of hate - "How do you know? Maybe in a few years, you'll be lucky enough to see your children Haha!"

"But now that the plan is ruined, I guess I'll have to do something about you" - he said with a murderous instinct - "It will be better to give you a slow and painful death but don't worry, the two bastards will be in good hands"

Hearing that, I could only feel fear - "Itachi... Sasuke-chan... I hope nothing happened to you..."

POV: Danzo

In a dark room, you could see an elderly man. He had dark hair, a bandaged right eye, and arm. He wore a white shirt and brown robe that covered from his feet to his right shoulder, his name was Danzo Shimura, leader of Root.

"That idiot Fugaku..." - I murmured in growing anger - "How can you let the plan, leak out?!"

I'd been planning this for years but because of one idiot, everything was falling apart.

I made a risky move like this because I knew very well that the soft Hiruzen wouldn't do anything against me without proof. Attacking me without it would only cause a breach in the village that could be exploited by hostile forces. Perhaps most of the ninja clans will side with him, but the civilian side of the village is virtually under my control.

A few words could cause them to attempt a coup, but that is not something I wish to see, after all, I do not want the clans to leave MY village.

"Danzo-sama, all the preparations are ready..." - the Root Anbu said as he knelt before me.

"Very well... start the operation and if anyone asks why we are attacking the Uchiha, say that we discovered that they were trying to harm the village" - I said as I looked at the Anbu - "Give the information about the coup d'etat and remember, wear normal Anbu masks... I don't want Hiruzen to have proof of my involvement..."

"Hai, Danzo-sama!" - He said before he left on his mission.

"If only I could have got the eye of Shisui Uchiha, everything would be easier..." - I murmured as I closed my only eye - "At least I'll get the consolation prize..."

POV: Mikoto

Ugh! I don't know how long it's been since the fight started but I don't think I can hold out much longer.

"What's the matter Mikoto~? You don't want to fight anymore~?"- asked Fugaku as if he were a cat playing with a mouse - "Aren't you defending the bastards of my children?

"THEY'RE NOT YOUR CHILDREN!" - I shouted angrily - "BECAUSE THEY HAVE YOUR BASTARD DNA, IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY ARE YOURS!"

"THEY'RE NICE, THEY DON'T THIRST FOR POWER! THEY'RE GOING TO BE EXEMPLARY NINJAS, NOT BASTARDS LIKE YOU! THEY'RE MY PRECIOUS CHILDREN, I RAISED THEM WHILE YOU WERE OUT WITH YOUR WOMEN! - I couldn't resist any longer. That bastard trying to think he's a father when he only wanted them as weapons for his ambitions.

"THEY WILL NEVER BE YOUR WEAPONS!" - When I finished telling him that, I fell.

"You seem to think that because I do not kill you yet, it is because I have feelings for you, but I am only playing with you and my patience has run out" - Fugaku approached slowly with the clear intention of finishing with me, but before he could continue, something happened.

*BANG! BANG! BANG!*

"HELP!" - A shout was heard outside.

"PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!" - Said a voice begging for mercy.

"WHY ARE YOU ATTACKING US?! - Said another confused voice.

"SON! WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO MY SON?!" - Said the voice of a woman crying for loss.

There were screams of pain and despair, the sound of crying was heard everywhere, it was like being in hell itself.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!" - shouted Fugaku as he went outside to see what was going on, but when he saw what was happening, he couldn't believe it.

Hundreds of Anbus were slaughtering our clan without mercy.

"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?! THIS IS NOT WHAT WE AGREED ON!" - Fugaku shouted as he watched the members of the Uchiha Clan being killed.

"Fugaku Uchiha, we have evidence that the Uchiha Clan is linked to forces outside the village and is preparing a coup d'etat to overthrow the Hokage" - said an Anbu as he continued to massacre the lives of the Uchiha civilians - "By order of Danzo-sama we are on a mission to exterminate the tumor affecting Konoha..."

"DANZO! BASTARD! I KNEW YOU WOULD BETRIBE ME BUT I NEVER THINK YOU WOULD DO THIS TO MY CLAN! I PROMISE I WILL KILL YOU!" - After shouting he threw himself at the Anbu, hoping to save his clan.

"Fugaku" - I said as I saw the blood of my people on the ground - "Is this the result you wanted?"

Fugaku continued to fight but his efforts were in vain. He was killed within minutes.

"Only she is left in the residence" - said an Anbu as he approached me, it seems that I will never be able to see my little ones again... I just hope my children are all right...

POV: ???

I was on my way home because my son is still recovering from this troubling technique. Although I was worried, I couldn't deny that I was happy with how he had jumped to defend me. It was strange, it felt good to be loved once, even though he's my son - "What am I thinking?! Hmm?

In the area she could feel something strange, the place was quiet, too quiet.

"This chakra?!" - My body moved only when I felt this familiar presence and how it was weakening - "I have to hurry!"

The closer it got to me, the greater the smell of blood in the air - "It can't be! I just hope she's okay..."

As I entered the residence, I could only see dead bodies everywhere. It wasn't the first time I'd seen death in front of me but this time, it was different. The residents had no eyes and you could tell they were of all ages. Babies, children, teenagers, adults and old people... The people responsible, they hadn't forgiven anyone!

"How can they do this to people from the same village?!" - I quickly calmed down as I ran to the familiar chakra - "Please be well... Mikoto-chan..."

I ran without stopping until I saw them, 3 Anbus in front of a weak woman.

"STOP!" - I shouted angrily - "IF YOU MOVE EVEN ONLY ONE CENTIMETER, I PROMISE THAT I WILL NOT ONLY HIT YOU UNTIL YOUR MOTHERS DON'T RECOGNIZE YOU, BUT I WILL TAKE THESE CHAINS AND PUT THEM IN ALL YOUR ASSES"

POV: Mikoto

"STOP! IF YOU MOVE EVEN ONLY ONE CENTIMETER, I PROMISE THAT I WILL NOT ONLY HIT YOU UNTIL YOUR MOTHERS DON'T RECOGNIZE YOU, BUT I WILL TAKE THESE CHAINS AND PUT THEM IN ALL YOUR ASSES!"

"That voice..." - I could only look wearily at the origin of that familiar voice - "Kushina...chan..."

Not only was I perplexed, but so were the three remaining Anbus.

"FUINJUTSU: KONGO FUSA!"

After hearing Kushina-chan scream, we could see chains coming off his back and heading towards us. The three Anbuses seemed to know about her abilities, so they quickly dodged.

The chains, being unobstructed, took me gently as they pulled me towards my friend.

"Thank goodness I arrived in time" - I heard Kushina-chan say as I watched the Anbus escape.

Kushina decided not to follow them because there might be reinforcements around. They would capture me very easily in my current state if my redheaded friend was after the Anbus.

Knowing that it was all over, or at least for now, I started to lose consciousness, not before hearing the redhead speak - "Don't worry Mikoto-chan, your children are safe, I heard that Kakashi took them to the hospital..."

Knowing my children are safe, I let my conscience fly away - "Thank you...Kami..."

POV: Hiruzen Sarutobi

"Why..." - I whispered - "Why did this have to happen?!"

The Uchiha clan had been massacred by a group of Anbus.

It was obvious that it had been Danzo's plan but he couldn't do anything, not because he didn't want to, but because his hands were tied. If he tried to do something against Danzo, the village would suffer the consequences and as Hokage, it was my duty to protect the village.

"Hokage-sama!" - said an Anbu - "There are only four Uchihas left alive Shisui Uchiha on a mission, Itachi and Sasuke Uchiha in the hospital and Mikoto Uchiha who was recently taken to the hospital as well"

"Also" - Anbu continued with the bad news - "All eyes have been removed from the corpses..."

*Bang~! *

My anger could no longer be controlled and my chakra came out like a geyser - "Danzo... this time you crossed the line"

"You can retire" - I said to the Anbu while trying to calm down and think - "I'm going to act like I always do... although I'll have more run-ins with Danzo so he'll think everything's fine..."

"Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer..." - I thought as I looked out the window - "*Sigh~* I'm too old for all this shit..."

POV: Mikoto

I don't know how long I've been unconscious but when I woke up, I saw Kushina-chan was beside me.

"It's been a while, hasn't it, Kushina-chan?" - I told the redhead that she seemed to have no idea where I was.

"Mikoto-chan! You finally woke up!" - The redhead smiled, but her expression quickly changed to a much sadder one - "Honestly, I wish our meeting could have been different..."

I could see her expression of sadness and concern, that let me know that even though it's been 8 years, she's still my best friend.

"We'd better change the subject, Kushina-chan because I don't want to talk about something so depressing" - I sighed with regret - "Why don't you tell me what your life has been like since you left the village?"

When the subject was changed, the redhead took heart and started talking about her life in Uzushiogakure.

So we spent the whole afternoon talking until the nurse told me that my children were in the next room asking about my condition. When Kushina saw this, she said goodbye because she had to see Naruto's condition too.

She was shocked to hear how young Uzumaki had jumped to defend his mother when he saw how they had made her cry.

"He will be a good boy when he grows up" - that was what I thought, but I never knew how true those words would be.

I can only thank Kushina-chan, for it was through her that I met the man who would change my life.
