4 Chapter 3

I left the kings library sometime around 3:30. I still had a few daily tasks to do before the princess came in at 4:00, and only 30 minutes to an hour to catch a ferry to Skyloft, where the Black Rose was currently staying. With this information I knew I wouldn't be home in time for dinner.

I ran into Aza again on my way back to the study and asked her to send a note home to let Enagi know before he made me any food.

I copied the public affairs bill and filled out the directory order for Zaque before Reina arrived. They would be the ones keeping Draco busy. I refused to let them kill it, since that could bring bad luck upon the people of Galidor.

She understood she only had 15-ish minutes to chat. This was a common occurrence since, according to the princess herself, I was her only friend. When she left I immediately attended to the remains of my work.

I arrived in Skyloft just a little bit before dark. I, knowing Zaque far too well, headed for Falcon Tavern and Inn. He would be there the moment the last bit of red had left the sky. I decided to order food while waiting.

"Barkeep? Can I get a menu over here?" I asked, tapping the bar with my hand.

"Yes ma'am," He said, pulling out a rolled up parchment paper and handing it to me, "Nice armor. Them dumbasses across the street could take a few hints."

"As if they'd listen to anything I have to say about their aesthetic," I laughed.

"We're out of onions so you'll have to make do with a few items not being available on the menu."

I smiled, "Not a fan of them anyways."

Just then the door opened and the sound of metal clicking on wood entered the tavern. Some girls swooned, while everyone else shivered or grunted.

"Ah, it seems my accompaniment has arrived. Sorry, I guess I won't be eating here tonight," I said, swirling around in my seat to face him, "Well, hello Captain. I've things for you to do!"

"Ah. What brings you here, mi'lady. Come to give me your kudos?" He said in a raspy, sly voice.

"Very unlikely. And is that really how you address your superiors? How disrespectful!"

    "Ahahahah! Superior? You're 15, lass!"

    "Whatever. I've orders for you."

"That depends on whether I accept them."

    "I don't ask favors."

    "Oh?"

"Please spare me your moody humor." I snarled as I walked to the door with the papers.

    "Moody my ass."

"Mhm," I waved the papers in in front of him, "Don't keep me too long. I could've sent the princess in my stead. Don't make me regret not doing so."

He rolled his eyes and made his way for the bar as I went outside to wait for him. When he came out he had two plates of food and two disposable glasses of some sort of alcoholic drink.

"Here. Eat," He smiled, kneeling down to sit beside me.

"Thank you. Actually, this is less of an order and more of a favor. It isn't directly from me though." I murmured.

"Very funny. Either way I doubt I have a choice."

I handed him the bill first. He scanned it before seeing keyword Freous and started over to read it correctly.

"I take it we're to slay the dragon?"

"You should hope it doesn't come to that."

"Isn't that a bit optimistic of you? I know you're superstitious, but you can't expect us to do something to prevent or stop further damages without slaughtering it!"

"You can't kill it. Not even Silas was capable of that."

    "Please-"

I removed one of my gloves and held out my bare hand. He stared at the scales for a moment.

"Weird. But what does that have to do with this?" He continued.

"These are the same as that dragons. They can't be pulled or penetrated. How do you expect to slay a beast covered head to toe in these?"

"So you just want us to keep it busy until some scholar figures out how to defeat it? How long will that take?"

"It's not that bad. It'll pay high too."

"Fine. Give me the directory so I can sign it."

He scanned it, like he usually does before signing something. Then signed it.

"Thank you... And kudos. The people of Mara Village were more than satisfied with your work. Lord Wesse said he was going to pay extra and send you a gift. They'll both arrive in Sosa Thursday."

With that, I finished the food, dropped a silver bit on his already clean plate, and crossed the street to the inn he had just came from.
