1 The Number One Player

A 22 year old man walked into his apartment. He had Black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black jacket, grey T-shirt and black pants. The man was also wearing a backpack. He looked above average. The man sighed and closed the door. He then threw his backpack into a corner and took off his jacket. The man was called David Wright. He was a computer programmer, and has just returned from work.

"I should've chosen a different company."

David really liked being a programmer, the same however couldn't be said about his workplace. All of his colleagues did their best to do as little as possible, and usually made others do their work. Ultimately, David was the one who had to do it, because if one person did his job wrong, then everyone would get paid less, it was collective punishment. If not for that, then he wouldn't bother doing their work, since the other employees wouldn't do it either.

David contacted his superiors to report their behavior, because of that, his colleagues got paid less. Unfortunately, they still didn't do their job, there wasn't much more that David could do about it.

Even though David was a computer programmer, he knew many other things about computers, such as: Fixing computers, being an administrator or creating a network. Therefore, he was able to do the work of other employees.

David went to his computer and turned it on. He then took a deep breath. Today was the day that he would attempt something that nobody has yet done. He launched the mmorpg game "Apocalypse". Today, he was going to beat the final boss of the game on his own. Nobody has yet managed to do it. David however, was quite confident. Why? Well, He was the number one player in the whole game, a level 300 spearman.

David played "Apocalypse" since the first time it came out five years ago. Everytime he would come back tired from work, it would help him relax. It was one of the few things that still brought him joy after he started working.

For the next hour, David fought the final boss without a single break and eventually, the boss was killed.

"Finally! This took way too much effort, I barely survived."

Had David not been lucky, he would've died a few times during the fight.

"Apparently, the developers announced that whoever beats the boss, will get a special prize, I'm quite curious about what it's going to be."

As David finished speaking, he felt a painful sensation on his hand. He then withdrew his hand from the computer mouse.

"Ow! Is this thing malfunctioning? Why did I get shocked? I'll have to disassemble it and examine it, just in case."

David frowned as he wondered what could be wrong with his computer, after all, it a rather high quality computer.

He then turned it off and stood up.

"Well, I'll do that later, I'm tired after all of that fighting. I'm afraid I might mess something up if I'm not able to completely concentrate."

David felt unusually tired, much more tired than when he came back from work. Did he really exhaust himself that much? He decided to take a short nap and then examine his computer.

As David laid down on his bed, he started to think about what recently happened, it was a habit of his, he liked to organize his thoughts before he went to sleep.

"Right, mom's birthday is in a week, I should get a plane ticket to Europe."

David lived in America, because of his work. His family, on the other hand, lived in Poland. While he missed his parents and grandparents a lot, he couldn't care less about his siblings.

When David was a child, he was constantly bullied and made fun of by his brothers and sister. Not only that, he also had quite a number of fears because of his siblings. After all, scaring a kid was quite amusing for them, and now because of the bullying and their "pranks", David barely has any confidence.

His oldest brother is someone that he no longer despises, since he matured a lot and they get along quite well. On the other hand, his sister and older brother are people that David deeply hates. He was beat up by his second brother a lot in the past because David wouldn't "help" him. David's second brother always justified himself by saying that "since he's my brother, he has to help me.". If David didn't help him when he asked, then he would either get beat up by his brother, or his brother would take away something from him, and when David did help him, his second brother didn't thank him in any sort of way.

"Now that I think about it, I don't think I ever heard him say "Thank you" in my whole life."

David's sister on the other hand, was someone who was the embodiment of an entitled person to such an extent, that even though David was a very patient and calm person, he once yelled at her at the top of his lungs. His sister was unsurprisingly offended by that.

"Well, it's not like I have to meet both of them at mom's birthday, it's not like they're going to visit her anyway."

David sighed and closed his eyes. He then slowly fell asleep.
