David instantly felt his wounds become much less severe, besides that, everything in his vision appeared slower, while he remained at the same speed. As he punched the tree next to him, the whole tree shaked momentarily.

David smiled slightly, he was no longer weak. He felt quite confident in defeating most of the beasts around the area he's in. Of course, he wouldn't dare say the same about the beasts deeper into the forest.

"Well, I think it's time for a short break, I'd rather not collapse in an unknown place."

David laid down on the ground and closed his eyes, he tried his best to relax, but now that he was aware about the beasts in this forest, it wasn't an easy task.

After a minute or so, David started hearing a beeping sound, he initially ignored it, but as it got louder, he was forced to open his eyes.

David stood up and looked around, but found nothing. He then decided to open his menu, the quest section was glowing a golden color, after opening the section, David saw a new quest.

Quest!

[A way out]

Find a way to exit the forest and leave it as soon as possible. 0/1

Reward: Skill menu unlocked

If the reward was anything else, David would've finished his break and then started doing the quest. He wasn't planning on finishing his break though, since the reward made him curious.

"After all, this system is supposed to be called the 'Leader system' right? I wonder what the skills are going to be like."

David started checking his memories, he still remembered his scouting experience quite vividly, and was trying to find anything that would signify an exit.

After a minute or so of thinking, David decided where to go.

He then looked at the sunny sky.

"Judging by the sun, in front of me is south, in that direction the amount of trees in a single place got significantly larger, therefore I think it's safe to assume that the way out is north. It's the only thing that could guide me anyway."

David started walking north as he tried his best to not make any noise, while he felt more confident in fighting now, he didn't want to get wounded for no reason.

Because of his scouting session, David got used to the terrain and was able to move around the forest quite comfortably.

After roughly half an hour of walking, David's eyes lit up.

As he continued walking north, the amount of trees that were around him grew smaller and smaller. Now he finally saw what he assumed was the end of the forest and a road.

As David stepped onto the road he felt relieved, he assumed that he would be able to leave the forest in a few minutes.

His assumption was proven right as David saw a meadow after five minutes of walking.

His expression didn't relax though, since about 500 meters in front of him was a fortress, with guards patrolling around the area.

David wasn't sure how they were going to react to him walking out of the forest, a minute ago he looked behind him to get a better look at it, and only then did he realize how enormous it was, and how ominous it looked. David assumed that he woke up in the outer parts of the forest.

"Well, the guards are going to notice me if I try to walk around the fortress anyway, they've already been looking at me since the moment I left the forest. Might as well walk straight to it, I might get the chance to ask them about a nearby city if they're friendly, although I don't have high hopes."

David knew that he had completed the quest from the system, but he decided to check it out later. There were more pressing issues that he had to face right now.

David strapped his spear onto his back and stared walking slightly faster. While he wasn't the most efficient person, he didn't like to waste time either.

As David was near the gates, one of the guards next to it stopped him.

"Halt!" The guard shouted. "Our commander wishes to see you, do not try to escape."

"Alright, lead the way." David quickly responded.

The guard was taken aback, as he expected that he would face at least a slight resistance. He quickly regained his composure.

The gate opened and David followed the guard inside.

As David looked around, he was expecting to see military tents, but surprisingly to him, there were wooden houses inside instead.

'This fort is either really important, or has existed for a long time.' David thought to himself.

Eventually, David and the guard arrived at a significantly bigger house, after passing through a few hallways, both of them arrived in a large room.

Inside the room was a middle aged man, he was sitting in a chair in front of a table with a map on top of it. The man had short, brown hair and a beard. He was dressed in exquisite looking, white plate armor, he also had a blood red cape.

The guard saluted to the middle aged man and stared speaking.

"Sir! I have brought the suspicious man from the forest!".

David ignored the comment about him as he tried his best to show an emotionless look on his face. He didn't want the man to disregard him.

"Very well, you may leave." The man responded.

The guard saluted again and left. Inside the room were left only David and the man.

"Why don't you take a seat?"

"Alright."

Both of them sat in silence for a moment.

"Now then, let's get to the point. What were you doing inside the Forgotten Forest?" The man asked.

'Forgotten Forest? What an original name.' David thought to himself.

"I was training." David quickly thought of an answer.

"Training, huh?" The man raised an eyebrow.

"That's quite an extreme place for training."

The middle aged man was surprised by David's answer, but he didn't doubt him. After all, the blood on David's armor and spear was only dried up, it wasn't gone and was fairly visible.

"Now then, allow me to get to the main point, I want to offer you a place in this fortress."

"A place?" David was astonished, this was far from what he expected. "Am I not a suspicious individual that you should question or anything like that?" said David, dumbfounded.

The man laughed and quickly responded.

"I personally believe that whoever is able to survive in that forest is far from weak, and strength is what is currently necessary in the army. Everyone in this place is used to peace, since monsters rarely come out of the forest, they don't look like soldiers at all!

"It's because of the fact that there are no monsters that I'm worried, that's usually a sign that they're grouping up and preparing for an attack. It happened in the past. I can tell the soldiers to prepare, but there will be people who don't take the job seriously."

David realized why he didn't encounter any beasts when he was walking out of the forest, their absence most likely had something to do with that.

The man continued speaking.

"That's why I would like you to join the soldiers in this fortress, someone who already fought the beasts from the Forgotten Forest would be more than useful. Therefore, what do you say?"
