2 A System?

As David slowly woke up, he could hear various sounds, such as the sound of howling wind or the sound of chirping birds. David was very confused as he opened his eyes, as far as he knew, he shouldn't hear anything like that in his apartment.

His eyesight took a moment to adjust, due to his surroundings being quite bright.

David immediately noticed that he was laying on the ground, the sky was barely visible to him because of the leaves.

As he grew more and more confused, he decided to stand up and look around.

Surprisingly, the area around him was filled with many trees varying from small to big, black to white. It looked quite fascinating to him, since David wasn't the kind of person to go outside often.

"A forest, huh? Since that's out of the way, how exactly did I get here?"

As David frowned and thought about this, he heard a robotic, cold voice in his head.

"The Leader system has been successfully launched."

David wasn't sure why such a thing happened, before he could think about it, he immediately felt dizzy.

The dizziness passed in a flash and David felt that his mind was much more clear than before.

In front of his eyes appeared several lines of text on a screen.

As David stared at the words in front of him, he instantly realized something.

"Ah, I see. So this is a dream, huh? Looks unusually realistic. Now then, just to make sure..."

David then proceeded to punch a tree to see whether or not he would feel any pain. He instantly regretted it afterwards.

"Ow, not a dream, not a dream."

After confirming that he wasn't dreaming, David decided to focus and think about his current situation. Even though he was rather bewildered, he decided not to panic. He quickly examined his surroundings carefully.

"Let's see, I'm in a forest which I can assume is a place people don't visit often, since I don't see any roads or paths around here. Besides that, I appear to have some kind of leader system which seems like something straight out of a video game..."

David stopped speaking when he noticed the words on the screen in front of his eyes changing.

Reward: A basic weapon and armor

When David thought about it, he agreed that it would make sense to check out his unusual system, since he'll probably be stuck with it, it wouldn't hurt to do so.

"Well then, let's attempt something first."

He thought about closing the screen in front of him, and it disappeared immediately afterwards.

"So it's controlled mentally?"

David decided to try something simple.

'Menu'

Immediately after he finised saying that in his mind, he could see a video game like looking menu in front of him.

The options that he would select were:

[Status]

[Quests]

[Inventory]

[Skills]

[???]

He noticed that both the skills option and the question marks were greyed out and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't open them.

"Well, since I already saw the status, there's only the quests and inventory left."

David focused and the words on the screen changed.

All he could see in front of him was the quest that he got a while ago, and it was taking about 20% of the screen, the rest was empty. However, only the title of the quest was visible.

David returned to the menu and this time, he selected the inventory section.

What he saw in front of him was an inventory that you would see in a game. On the left side was the screen David could see himself, on his left and right were empty slots. Under the slots were words such as: weapon slot, armor slot, helmet slot and other various things.

on the right side of the screen were about 30 empty slots. David assumed that he could put various items in there.

David returned to the menu and went back to the quest section. This time, the quest that he accepted was shining in a golden color. He then opened the quest.

Reward:

Armor: A set of leather armor[light] or a set of mixed armor(Leather-Iron)[heavy]

Weapon: Basic sword, basic spear or a basic bow

After thinking about it for a minute, David made his decision.

"I'm not necessarily physically strong, so the mixed armor will probably be a little too much, besides I don't like carrying weights."

As he chose his rewards, David's appearence changed.

Instead of his usual modern clothes, he was wearing a set of sturdy, leather armor. In his right hand, he was holding a spear.

David chose the spear because of the range advantage, he didn't choose the bow since if he missed, then he would be defenseless in close combat.

There was another reason why he chose the spear, and that was because of his character in "Apocalypse" who was also a spearman.

"Swords are overrated anyways."

David muttered under his breath.

"Now then, I suppose I should scout around and find out where I am."

David cut an X mark on the ground with his spear so he could try and come back here after he was done.

Immediately afterwards, David started looking around.

About an hour later, David slowly walked back to his marked spot and sat down. His spear was covered with a significant amount of blood, the same could be said for his armor, how much blood was his and how much wasn't was something that he didn't know.

When he was scouting around the area, David was completely baffled, instead of a peaceful forest, he saw a lot of beasts that he didn't think he would ever see with his own eyes.

He saw boars that were two meters tall, a white moose with silver antlers or a black wolf with red eyes.

Eventually, one of such beasts spotted him and he was forced to fight.

David didn't really have much combat experience, especially with a spear, so when the first few times this happened he panicked significantly and got wounded. He forced himself to ignore the fear and managed to take down the beast.

He got attacked a significant amount of times when scouting, but once he got used to fighting with a spear, the next times weren't nearly as bad, but he still sustained a few wounds here and there.

As David sat down he began talking to himself.

"Well, this clearly isn't Earth, and I didn't even manage to find a single path that would lead outside. It appears that I'm quite deep inside the forest. Either that, or it's simply unexplored."

As David finished speaking, he opened his menu and selected the status section.
