Lilly's Birthday Part 2

"Hey." Jack's voice is low and husky.

"Hey back." He laughs. "So, why didn't you tell me Friday that's your birthday today?"

"I didn't think you would care to know. Sorry." Hurt flash through his eyes. He takes your arms in his hands and stares in your eyes. You stop breathing.

"Lilly, you should know by now, that I care for you, more than I maybe should..."

"More than you should?" He releases you and sits at the bar, ignoring your question.

"So, since it's your birthday, I've got you a present." He takes out a long, black rectangular box and hands it to you.

"Oh...wow... Thank you, Jack, but you didn't have to." You open the box and take out a silver necklace with a heart-shaped sapphire.

"Oh.My.God!! Jack! It's so brilliantly beautiful. Thank you so much! It's perfect..."

His cheeks turn a light shade of pink. "May I?" He points at the necklace. "Oh, yes, please. It'll go with my outfit."
