Finding a way (2)

Shane mentally cursed herself for being clumsy as she was. Panic seeps into her system and she can't even think properly. With doubts blooming into her mind, she asked to herself where should she go to. There are too many roads and the paths were like roots that intertwined. What road would lead her to safety?

Instinctively, she ran towards the road that is nearest to her. Closing her eyes for a moment, she prayed, "please let me be safe, let me be safe."

"The Gory has a mind on its own," Shane thought. It is very intelligent, really. He smells the scent on one's soul and remembers it for eternity. He, then makes his way towards his enemy or maybe his allies and defend or maybe kill them for the sake of defending what is the task someone have given to him/her.

Shane doesn't like it. This puts her into disadvantage. Knowing that this Gory isn't on Shane's side and so is luck. But maybe, the tables can be turned in the future. What do we know? We don't have any gist of it and we don't have any seer that is within the vicinity.

But the problem here is the present. Shane can't be a food for him. She doesn't want to! She isn't sweet to be eaten! Somebody should spare her!

RUN! RUN! RUN!

That is what she is thinking right now. Shane stopped running for about two seconds just to think about it. Why would she do that, though?

//Why is she running away? Why didn't she just confront is upright and beat the Gory out of its wits? Furthermore, why, in all of the people here, did the Gory targeted her? //

After how many seconds that have passed, the Gory caught up on her and tried to aim its arms to deal a blow. If she didn't dodge it on the spot, she'll be a dead meat which she couldn't afford right now. She doesn't have any friends, and her aunt wouldn't like the sight of her being in the pool of blood or where she was wearing a heavy make-up on which she would find it funny. Why would she wanted to end up dead right now?! She couldn't even afford a coffin in which her pretty self would lay there and sleep forever.

She was surprised on how fast she reacted on what happened. That Gory must've been frustrated and looked at her with a sharp gleam on its eyes. The reaction time on which she dodged the blow was flawless and she couldn't help but to think where on earth did she get that stunning moves! She didn't even train herself and moreover, she's lazy!

Looking for some defense weapon, she spotted some twigs nearby the tree. She assumed that it couldn't help her in any form, considering the situation she was in. There's this skunk which she can use as defense but on the other side of it is that she will be at the disadvantage too. In her mind, she thought that it was a very hopeless case. If she dodged repeatedly, her stamina would run out eventually and that's what she doesn't want to happen.

Although she doesn't want it, she couldn't just stand there and do nothing. She'll take the risk even though it would tire her out! So she dodged every attack of the Gory and finds the right time when would escape, just like the old times.

"You're no fun, Mr. Gory! Why would you pick a little girl like me? Why won't you pick your own size, huh?!" Shane yelled at him. The Gory just growled and darts toward her. Calculating the speed, the Gory is like the flying squirrel. He glides and slides, making the trees on the road fell on the ground.

Shane thought that the trees were the innocent victims here and that their clueless souls would just rest in peace whether or not they would know the truth behind their deaths.

Mentally, she noted the letter she prepared for the poor trees:

//

Dear Trees,

May your souls rest in peace! Don't worry, I'll plant something on the same spot you guys fell. This is my oath!

Sincerely yours,

Shane

xoxo

P.S., I'll have the revenge you guys want, whether or not you want it

Suddenly, a line in a song entered Shane's mind:

//run run runaway, runaway baby! Before I put my spell on you~!//

Honestly, this line suits her situation very well right now. She should plan her so-called escape—if ever she has one, or at least plan a better strategy to fight her way back.

Then, there's a contradicting voice in her mind saying, "But you don't want to fight back, right? Little Shane here can't even kill a single mosquito. What are you going to do now?"

She thought that if she had a better version of her brain right now, she might want to replace it with more thoughtful and encouraging one. She, then wondered, if, in this world, would there be any inventor of the said brain? Is there any progress within their technology or magic that could resolve this dilemma in her mind?

She surveyed her surroundings and there were no roads after this one! Lady luck didn't shine upon her! She tried looking for another exit 'cause she believe that if the life close its door to you, don't worry, there'd be plenty more of windows. Trust this!

But what if life didn't want to open its windows for you? Or Life forgot to put some windows? Well, never mind. Okay, moving on!

She tried looking for an exit and if ever she didn't find any, this trip with the nature would be replaced with the trip to hell!

Minutes later, she stopped on her tracks. Breathing heavily, all she saw was a tall wall blocking her way—rather, to put it bluntly, a dead end. This is it, the entrance to hell and she didn't get a chance to retaliate fully!

She sighed and calmed her heart that is beating so fast.

After a while, she spotted the Gory and her calmed heart started to beat again erratically. She, then, panicked and circled on the spot she was in.

"What am I going to do?" she thought while biting her fingernails and then started to think afterwards.

If she assessed the situation she was in, she is literally in a tight spot. There's a tall wall that is blocking her way out with a height of at least six feet and the vines are covering it. She didn't want to trust the vine because those things were not meant to be trusted! The road is pretty narrow for her and for the Gory. But it could be considered as an enough road for fighting.

"As if you are able to fight. Your body sucks!" here it is again, the other voice inside of her. Not letting go of the opportunity to turn me down, huh? Shane then furrowed her brows and gets back to what she was doing earlier.

The distance between her and the Gory is getting nearer and nearer. Shane's poor soul is trembling right now!

The Gory dashed and strike at Shane with his arms, swinging at a rapid speed. Assuming that the swing is heavy, she could be crushed in a sec or two. She managed to dodge and thank goodness, her body cooperated with her again! Dodging is what she could do right now.

The Gory continued swinging his arms with full force, not minding the damage he has done. Shane dodge, repeatedly but she couldn't take it any longer. On his next swing, her body was hit so hard that she flew towards the wall and made a web cracks as a sign of collision there. She was in pain and any time, she could pass out soon. No one is going to help her.

Despite all of the pain she felt. She knew when to give up and when to surrender.

Observing the Gory, Shane somehow managed to fill in its attack pattern. The first swing is on his right arm, the second is on the left, the third is on the left, repeatedly.

She deduced the time interval between each attacks, given its size and built, would have a maximum interval of 2 seconds.

Having no defense weapon, her standing was 50/50.

Her stamina is dropping, to the point that it reached the line where the stamina should be replenished. If ever it will continue like this, until she rested for a while, she could collapse any time on a cold and grassy floor. There are bugs and critters on it!

She expected that she would collapse any time soon. Why is the time not running? It should run! It should and it should be faster than Shane expected it would be!

The Gory strikes back again! Swinging full-force, he hit her head on and got crashed on the ground.

Shane reevaluated herself now. She remembered having a large cut on the cheeks, some bruises on both of her arms, a painful wound on the side of her body and aside from that, there is nothing more.

Her vision started to get blurry, blood (she doesn't even remember having a cut on her head, just on the cheeks!), is dripping and it made her dizzy. Before her vision started to get all black, she saw two figures (one is tall, looks like a boy and one is petite for a girl), facing the Gory in her stead.

I am late.

I admit that I am a lazy person. Hehe.

P.S. forgot the title of the song tho

P.P.S. the song title is Runaway Baby by Bruno Mars
