A Boring History

CHAPTER 6: A Boring History

"What just happened?" Shane asked Trisha after she found Trisha a couple of people next to her. "The Scanner could not handle the pressure," she said, "The scanner is from your room, right?" she asked. "Sort of. What's the connection with that?" Shane replied.

"Surely, you won't notice this but that scanner has its own limit too. There's no such thing like a perfect scanner. Maybe one of you tried to conceal his/her own powers and tried to hide it so no one could be able to trace their bloodline. But sadly, the scanner is able to pick up different energy and store it. No one knows where they hid it.

The scanner must have been sensed or let us just say, 'stored' an ancient power and thus, it explodes (she's just exaggerating, the scanner just overheated, that's all).

Well, there are rumors- or is it a rumor now, about it but let us assume that they are false information. I can tell you if I have a spare time but the food in my plate's been added and my schedule is a little bit uptight." She's just like this.

Shane understood the situation because she's been in the tight spot in the first place. A student nominated Trisha in the school's disciplinary team and recently, there are many rule breakers that needs a disciplinary action. So, that sums it up. Are we clear?

"Okay. For now, I must attend to my duties because this commotion can lead to students thinking about making some trouble out there. See you in a bit!" She waved goodbye and Shane was left here wandering her eyes for some 'friendly' students. No signs of them. Guess she will be in a peaceful yet alluring place she could find here in the Academy.

The field's so crowded that she can't even properly breathe. Many students just stay here rather than in their Dorm since the Headmaster ordered suspension for classes this afternoon. But they are not the same though. She would rather be not her because she finds it too tiring to mingle with others or just stay on a crowded place. Socializing with people is too tiring. But inside the classroom, she could at least get a hold of one or two of being friends with someone, and of course, including Trisha (which was totally on top of the list).

Tomorrow's schedule is a lecture with Prof. Perkins tackling about how this world end up being this world, or so. Shane would rather read books, though. Guess she can't help herself being a nerdy one.

The Library is located north-west from the center of this Academy-- the School building itself. Having this grand pillars, like those in the Grecian days, seemed to her that they've been restoring this for how many decades long. Majestic statue of the God of Knowledge were seen from the entrance. Basilisks (although known for their capabilities to kill someone within their field of vision) were displayed on the front line for the roof, maybe for protection or whatsoever purpose it may be. They were displayed already, but legend says that a person from another dimension can mess with them and bring them back to life, if ever that person wishes to.

Typical scene inside the library, where almost three-fourths of the whole room were inhabited. Those remaining one-fourth students were the type of people being the dorky and nerdy ones. Just like her. But hey, never thought the guy earlier would be seen here. Shane meant that, based on his appearance, she thought he's incapable of staying here in the library for almost an hour.

Shane doesn't have any bag with her so she is free to go without stalling in the guard's place-your-bag-here station. Just a pen and a piece of paper is enough though. Shane already logged in and all she has to do is find some secluded place here in the library. Hmm. What would she go for, huh? Since we're having some history for tomorrow, she is going to get some history books.

There is a specialized magic stone here in the library that transforms one's orders to a matter. For example, if Shane is going to get some history books, all she has to say is, "history books" and it'll give her some list of them to her and all she has to do is to pick from the hologram screen it displayed.

"Well, this might turn out exciting," Shane thought and then smiled afterwards.

So far, all she knows is that, once upon a rainy night, the very powerful kingdom here in the Hollows Region was eliminated. Is it because of the threat in the humanity? Or to those who are here in the Kingdom of Callous? As far as she was concerned, there's a trivial war between the two nations and she is thinking that this is the way of one another to inflict pain within them. Well, of course, the two out of five regions (which is the Kingdom of Callous and Kingdom of Kayre) here are in par with their capabilities and abilities by individual rating.

Also, Shane found out that each of the Kingdoms here are different by each other. If she explained it elaborately, the Kingdom of Kayre, which is this Kingdom, is in the center of the four remaining Kingdoms and the people living in here is mixed-up race.

The Kingdom of Fae, which is in the east of Kayre, consists of mostly fairies, and a little percentage for elves, dwarves and other forest related species. Their ruler is from the Fairies' race, obviously. The Feast for the Nature is being held here, once in two years and this is the most awaited Feast by any individual beings in the region.

The Kingdom of Avia, located in the north part of Kayre, where the flying-type race resides. Although, their kingdom is supposedly floating (that's the principle of their land), it is kept anchored by a magical chain that spreads like a hundred meters wide and thousand meters long. Below their land is a vast vegetation managed by the head chief of this region and this Kingdom is the main supplier of foods for the whole Region.

The Kingdom of Hydro, in the west part of Kayre, which obviously is related to water since the name states it all, has a vast area for pure water part. The land still remains a little too much for those living by the water. Also, annually, the spiritual cleansing of souls happens here, by means of dipping your body in their holy lake named Slych and it is required for someone who wants to be a part of Government.

And lastly, the Kingdom of Callous, which she recently knew that it has something to do with competition against the Kingdom of Kayre, holds the darkest and scariest forests in the whole Region. Legend says that the gate of the Underworld is located here and proof shows nothing, that's why it is an urban legend to most of the people here. They are the renowned powerful being that is best in summoning even the deadliest and powerful being of all time, but for those ordinary people in this Kingdom, they have their limits. Although, the tragic death for all those people living there, she is quite confused on how and why they ended up like that. Did anyone survive? Is there a spell or something that can eliminate the entire Kingdom? Well, many things have been bugging Shane out lately, and she can't help but to think and search for an answer, or answers because they're too many to mention.

Her train of thoughts just stopped when she realized that there is someone who, she assumed, is staring at her. Like, why? Is she that worth staring for? Jeez. Well, she'd assume that she is. It won't hurt her anyway, tho.

After a while, she doesn't have any use for this book. She had gathered information and that's not what she needed to know. Maybe there are some books here solely for the races. Shane tried to search again here in the library. In the movies she'd watched, the hidden doors are located mostly on the walls you've never imagined that they are here. Or on the bookshelves in the wall that is glued on. The secret passages are triggered by a secret button, or so. That is what she is looking for.

There, she found one of them. Afterwards, she smiled at that thought and felt that she had accomplished a great task.

Bingo! This is the moment. She is mentally wishing that there are no creepy feels when she is about to go to the other side of this wall. To her surprise, it isn't a button for the secret passage! It is a button for the trap door! Shane hurriedly pressed the button, again! Whooo! (Imaginatively wipes some imaginative sweat off of her forehead) that was a close call! She won't ever believe in the movies again! As in, never! For her to be relaxed and her heart to be calm, she leaned herself against the wall and feel its cold temperature that soothes her nervous body. A flicker of light was seen in the wall she is leaning on. Later did Shane realized that she is tumbling her way down through the…...cemented staircase?

Shane groaned in pain. Her butt hurts! Curse you, cemented staircase! She'd never fall for your trick again! That pain turned into excitement as she roamed her eyes on the room herself have fallen for.

"Whoa." Shane is utterly speechless. Curse this elegant interior designs. Curse this room. And curse herself for falling for books even more, because you know what? Many of them are here, this is the truth!

I'll edit this next time :D
