19 The register as Adventurer (1)

Elisabeth made her point clear about how much she hated this idea, but had to concede because no strong person will be raised in a glass wall. She knew that she and her husband already made of their son a commendable warrior and what he is more lacking now is real experience.

Arthur, other side, was ecstatic about an opportunity of go on an adventure. His daytime dreams don't last long as the negotiation kept going between his parents and teacher. He could not bring money or food, just a canteen of water?

Actually, he knew that his complaints were kind of absurd because when he worked as a squire on for the mercenaries he could see how reality is cruel for the first time. Many of those men and women that enlist themselves as mercenaries did that for have what to eat. The adventurous spirit existed only for guys who already has a good life.

Arthur steeled his mind while he received advices from his dad, mom and teacher.

The Glory City is a small town, that was reigned by a Baron, locate at the south of the Empire. The city have a squared shape with the south wall facing the entrance of the Virgin Forest and the east wall facing the sea.

There are five noble clans in the Glory City: Glory's, Tulips, Sparrows, Pierces and the Smiths.

The Glory Family is known by his abilities of use mana in elemental form, the Mage profession. They are the strongest family with Baron level of nobility. Practically, they build this city.

The Smiths and Tulips are famous for being Technicians, cultivators that uses their mana to create. The Smiths are blacksmiths and Tulips are potion makers.

Pierces and Sparrows are Fighters, clans that specialize their mana output for maximize their usage of certain weapons. The Pierces are Lancers and Sparrows are Archers.

The Adventurers Guild aka Mercenaries Guild, was located near the south gate of Glory City, keeping the fighters near the gate.

---------------------------------

Arthur took his clothes and equipment and walked to the Adventurers Guild. On the way he took his time to look at food prices and rental locations that he could use during his life as adventurer. He made his calculations, He needs to complete 5 Rank C missions. The problem is, the missions with rank E and D you need to do a basic skill test to avoid unfounded death. To grade up to C level you have to complete five D-Quests with at least 4 stars, in five.

The street in front of the Adventurers Guild was crowded. Merchants fighting for clients to buy their weapons, armours and potions, taverns offering bed and food and ladies offering comfort and pleasure. This is a direct sign of the prosperity of the guild, as much as a sign of the hard life of adventurers.

The first floor of the Guild looked like another pub. Near twenty round tables spread at the sides with a big balcony in the centre. There were three boards on the walls with notes pinned on them, each one of them for one of the three rank mission C, D and E. Arthur thought that missions of rank A and B were taken from the second and third floor.

There is another board that was for advertising lessons. The guild opened this board for disabled veterans to teach the newcomers how to fight, since most of them came from a poor household.

This way the guild could profit and help everyone. A bunch of young guys that will be able to complete harder missions who knew that when they became old they could keep getting money from the Guild. Of course the noobs have to pay for the classes and the guild get a commission for the tuitions.

People like Arthur, that had the chance to learn at home doesn't make 5% of the people here. Actually, this 5% group was, somewhat, in the same condition as Arthur. They are from isolated noble branches (like Arthur's family), the rich merchant household or have parents in military.

"Good afternoon miss. I'm here for register as Adventurer, what is the procedure?"

The mid-aged woman looked at the boy with a worry at the beginning, but it goes away quickly. She was used to the number of kids that comes for seek money or glory.

"Well, if you want to do grade E quests you just need the basic medical exam. The exam is free and the report is qualifying, if the doc says that you cannot fight for us so you can't. The money is short but you will have a way to get money to live and pay for courses."

"I already know how to fight and want to apply for rank D."

"If you want to register for rank D you will need to do the medical exam and the skill test. This will cost you a hundred dollars, that will be deducted from your payment of the missions. The medical exam is the same as rank E, but keep calm because if you don't pass the skill test you still be able to become a rank E. "

"I will try for rank D"

The lady took Arthur's complete data and gone to the balcony to take a brooch with a double sword crossed in front of a shield.

"This brooch will be an identification document. Read the contract and, if you really want to take the tests, we need you to put your blood in it for your agreement. With it, we will have your data on all branches of Adventure Guild."

Arthur became curious. "What is the point to use this brooch before the medical exam? If I fail it will be wasted."

"Well, this way you will be declassified in all branches too..."

This could sound harsh, but to be an Adventurer is a risky job and send people to die is an unprofitable investment. He used the pin of the brooch to pierce his thumb and dropped his blood at the front of the brooch.
