CHAPTER SEVEN

Alice mind was afar off as she was driven back home. A lot of thoughts drifted through her mind but none made any sense. Could Martin really know about what they were suspecting?. She didn't want to believe it, but at the same time she couldn't miss that expression on his face. It was some what glaring. He knew something but she couldn't guess what. Then there was something different about him. He gave a dangerous scent, She couldn't tell why or what it was supposed to mean but something was off about him. Then again there was that look when he saw her. The sadness that was visible in his eyes. Somehow the sight of her opened a closed wound in him. She knew she wouldn't relent until she knew why.

"God's Alice!" She groaned, "what the hell are you thinking?" She placed her head on her palm.

"Are you alright ma'am?' the driver asked with a concerned look in his eyes.

Her face flushed in embarrassment. "I'm fine" she managed to say. She sighed deeply. She just met this Martin of a guy and now he seems to occupy her thoughts despite the fact that he looked suspicious.

The car came to a stop in front of her apartment. She thanked the driver as he sped away. As soon as she turned back to walk into the apartment she met a woman in front of her. She was startled and almost jumped back. She noticed the lady was smiling at her with sharp eyes. She looked young. Maybe younger than she was she couldn't say exactly. The lady gazed at her with calculating eyes, the smile never disappearing from her face.

"I'm sorry if I startled you" the lady apologized. "I was passing by and saw you drop here so I figured you were the new resident in this apartment."

"True" Alice said gazing her over. She looked harmless except for the dangerous scent arousing from her body. Just like Martin except this was much more maybe dangerous as her scent was thicker. All the alarm cells in her body were on high alert.

"I thought I should just like greet you" the lady continued ,"since I'm your neighbor. I'm Mary by the way." She extended her hand forward for a handshake and Alice took it warmly.

"I'm Alice" she said, "nice to meet you." Mary's Smile brightened. "If you need anything at all don't hesitate to contact me. My house is just over there." She pointed to a building a stone throw from their location.

"That's very sweet of you" Alice said, " I think I'm gonna love it here. Its really a pleasure to meet you."

"The pleasure's mine" Mary said. She smiled at Alice and walked towards her apartment without glancing back for a second. Alice watched her go. She couldn't understand why their scent were different from all the people she had met.

She shrugged slightly and entered her apartment. She settled on a chair and closed her eyes to rest for a little bit. She still had some work to do, She hated the way Martin always comes to her mind, for all she knows he shouldn't even be trustworthy. She sighed deeply, this was confusing.

She stood up and headed to her room. She undressed quickly and headed to the shower. It was warm against her skin. It somehow soothed her and helped relax and calm her mind. She spent twenty minutes in the shower. It was as if she shouldn't leave there. She ran her fingers through her body. There was nothing abnormal about her. She looked perfectly human. Her blue eyes were perfectly normal, everything in her body was in its place so why was she different? She couldn't understand the reason for the supernatural strength or the enhanced speed or the super hearing. Right from when she was in college they called her a freak. Nobody wanted to associate with her. She had always been alone most of her life.

She finally left the shower and went into her room. She dried her body and quickly dressed up. She wore a silk gown over her body and carefully combed her long hair. After everything she went and made for herself a cup of coffee. She sipped it bit by bit carefully enjoying its taste in her mouth.

She later sat on her bed with her laptop placed on her lap. She picked her phone and dialed her NYPD boss. It rang for some seconds before he finally picked the call.

"Alice?" He sounded somewhat surprised.

"Yeah, hi there." She greeted. "What a surprise" he said. "I honestly wasn't expecting your call at least not so soon."

"Well" she said, " here I am calling you." " How is Atlanta?" He asked.

"Well, I'm adjusting but it's good," she replied. "Hope there isn't a problem? " He asked with a note of concern in his voice.

"Well not at all" she answered, "I just need a little favor." There was a brief pause over the end of the phone as he was trying to guess what she wanted. "What do you want?" He asked.

"The apartment you rented for me here in Atlanta please l'll like to see the documents."

"The documents?" He asked. He sounded surprised. "Does this have anything to do with the case?"

"Well no", she replied, " its something personal. Isn't everything personal for you" he said.

"Please I really need this", she pleaded. He considered for a while.

"Alright" he gave in ",I'm not the one who did the paper work and stuffs like that I only arranged it but I'll make some phone calls and have it sent to your mail but it might take a while. Perhaps an hour or maybe more."

"Thanks a lot", she said " sincerely, thanks for everything." "You're my best agent", he said, "despite everything you've been through you still maintained your ground and push on with your life. You're someone I admire a lot, you taught me so many things that I'll always be grateful for even if you didn't realize it. I hope you find what you're looking for and that you get some peace and find someone who will love you for who you are and what you are."

Alice didn't realize when tears dripped down her cheeks from her eyes. "Thanks" she managed to say almost in whispers. He didn't reply but hung up.

Alice released a breath she didn't realize she was holding. He had always been her guide and like a mentor to her. He knew of her situation and knew much about her for a long time but this was the first time he will say something as deep as that. Maybe it has been pricking him to say it but he couldn't muster the courage to do so.

She set the laptop aside and laid on her belly. She loved the warmth the bed sent to her. It helped relax her body. She didn't realize when she dozed off. She was jerked back to consciousness when her phone buzzed loudly close to her ears.

Her boss texted that he had sent it to her mail. She moaned, she slept for one and a half hours. She quickly moved to her laptop and checked her email. She noticed the new message displayed there and saw that it was the document she requested for. She sent a quick thank you to him and dropped the phone.

She opened the file containing the documents and went through it. The house was older than she thought. It had been there for up to a hundred years. It must have gone through a lot of restructuring for it to be like this. She continued scrolling she noticed that most of the people who resided in the house had the same last name. Could it be coincidence? She saw the phone number of the agent of the house and quickly dialed it.

"Hello," she said immediately the reciever picked the line. "Hello", a husky voice replied her. The person sounded stressed or something like that.

"Sorry to bother you ,but I'm Alice a new resident in an apartment in Atlanta."

"Really?" The person asked with interest in his voice. "Yeah" she answered, "I called to ask if I could get a little info on the person who lived in this house before I did."

"Of course" the agent said." I'll send it to you immediately." He accepted rather too quickly and Alice wondered if he had motifs of his own. "How can I send it?" He asked, "I can bring if to you if you don't mind."

"I'd rather you send it to my mail" she replied," no need to stress yourself over nothing." He contemplated on her answer for a while. "That's alright," he finally agreed. "Just text me your mail and I'll send it."

"Thanks" ,Alice said. She disconnected the line and quickly text him her email address. Shortly after her computer received a new notification. A message just popped into her mail. Her phone then began ringing. It was the agent.

"Thanks a lot, I've seen it" she said immediately she answered. "You're welcome" he replied. He seemed to want to tell her something but his voice cut off. He must have decided against it. " Alright then' he finally said before terminating the call.

She wondered why he was acting strange. She moved to her laptop and checked the message. It contained a simple file about the last resident of the apartment.

As soon as Alice went through the file she gasped loudly. Everything seemed to spin and revolve around her. It was a woman. There wasn't much details there but why should there be. The picture she was staring at was enough for her. Blue eyes, dark long hair, shape of her face. The necklace on her neck which was similar to the one she spotted in the room and the one on her neck. It was like staring at herself in an older form.

Goosh without a doubt that was her mother!!
