8 Strange Light

A few weeks had passed since the fall of Pluto, yet Tyrant still had over half of his corpse left. This was only an optimistic way of saying too.

It was the duty of a predator to eat what they kill. It was in this way that most Abyssals live, as there are few plants and their nutrients is thin. It was also a form of respect to devour the entirety of your enemy personally. It was only with a fierce grudge would an Abyssal refuse to eat the one they killed.

With Pluto being as large as a mountain, the amount of meat, quite honestly, sickening. Just looking at the amount made even abyssals lose their appetite. Only time could possible tell how long it would take for one carriage sized beast to eat the whole body.

Tyrant was sick. He did not want to eat anymore. It was all he ate for the past few weeks. It was simply too much. He expected it would take at least a year to eat everything, and that was only a conservative estimate.

Day in and day out, he would lie next to the tattered corpse. He would drink it's blood, eat it's flesh, and chase off whatever foolish Abyssal dared to have thoughts for it. He felt he was getting a little chubby as well, which was definitely not good for an apex predator. He knew that this life was far too lazy, but he did not know when it would end, as he couldn't leave the corpse as he had to eat the whole thing as a form of respect for his greatest opponent. His pride would be trampled if he let scavengers get to it.

He lived like this for half a year, unenthusiastically consuming the carcass. Fortunately it did not rot, as all bacteria, bugs, and whatnot were all burned to death at the high temperature of the body. This was attributed to the numerous fire glands in the body that constantly produced heat, keeping the body warm, and also tasted like the rotted carcass of a mutilated fish beast. To stay in some modicum of shape, he would run around the mountain of a corpse and burn what he ate faster. He also took this chance to eat different parts of the body, his only form of variety in this forsaken lifestyle.

A year passed, the corpse was down to just it's thorax and head, which he saved for last, he looked forward to it.

Now 16 months after the death of the monarch of the abyss, Tyrant looked at the heart of Pluto, the last part of his corpse yet to be eaten. It had a hole in it, left when he pierced it when he killed Pluto. Suddenly something glinted in the corner of his eye.

He saw a strange light in the sky, which was alway dark, aside from some bioluminescent bugs that flew around sometimes, but they were never so high or bright. Even though it was small, it was so bright that even the tyrant couldn't help but squint as he looked at it.

It's not like there wasn't light in the abyss, even though it's the abyss. There was naturally fire that emitted light and some certain beasts who glow for whatever reason, and others that flash light to blind opponents, though Tyrant was not capable of that. Despite this, he had never seen light so... white, piercing, and strangely, loud, as if it called for attention in the sky.

He watched it, and noticed it was pulsing, like the heart he intended to eat before he killed it. With every pulse he noticed the light grew bigger, as well as brighter. His power of observation could see such minuscule detail, and noticed that it was at a distance he could never reach with flight.

As he watched it grow, he suddenly felt a severe since of urgency, and looked around he noticed that nearby Abyssal vegetation were slowly withering with a low sizzle, as if a slug dipped in salt. He then turned to the heart he had yet to eat, and saw it was sizzling too.

He worked very hard for this, how could he let his achievement be shriveled up! He voraciously started devouring Pluto's heart, which was as big as him, and felt its energy coursing through his body. When he finished it, Tyrant felt so warm he felt like he might be able to emit fire too, though that was just a pipe dream.

When he finished, he looked around and saw that not just plants, even some distant beasts he saw were sizzling like an egg on a car hood in summer, as they slowly started growing thinner and weaker.

Tyrant noticed that he himself was also sizzling and he immediately dug a hole in the ground to shelter in.

When he looked out, he saw the light in the sky had now doubled in size, and now even the ground made crackling noises as it started to turn red and then return to dust.

Tyrant now realized that the entire abyss was withering before the power of this light.
