9 Calamity of the Abyss

The light pulsed again, and the surroundings started to ignite, and Tyrant noticed that fire was sprouting from the earth.

It was no ordinary fire either, the flame burned an ashy white, that seemed to consume everything it touched.

Tyrant proved he fire, and though it wasn't as intense as Pluto's flames, and was not yet strong enough to harm him, it held an irresistible terror that made Tyrant shiver to the depths of his bones.

Again the light pulsed, it was now 3 times bigger than when Tyrant first saw it. He watched it in abject horror as the Abyss now seemed to burn, and he knew that a calamity was upon it.

Then a small Abyssal ran past him, holding an expression of irrepressible fear as it ran as fast as it's legs could carry it. Then another flew by, one with wings that flapped desperately in the same direction as the one before. Then another, and another.

Tyrant turned around, and his eyes dilated drastically. There was a massive wave of beasts heading his direction, all fleeing in fear of the catastrophe behind them.

He saw the Abyssal land peel off where it stood, inward to the center of the continent they resided, Like the edges of an egg that was frying too long.

The seas too, were boiling red. Steam rose a deep ink color as the cries of the sea dwelling beasts suffering could be heard constantly as they dove deeper into the depths in a desperate attempt to escape, with some even exploding from the abrupt change in atmospheric pressure from diving too deep.

Tyrant watched all these events silently and without moving. He was not yet harmed by the lights great power, but others directly burst into flames and boiled from the inside in a horrifying soul suffering pain.

It was only when the calamitous light pulsed once again that Tyrant felt a deep sense of urgency in the depths of his soul, telling him that this was not something he could handle.

He immediately released his wings and flew toward the center of the continent, as he turned around, he saw the land peeling even further, like that of an orange, with the land beneath being a soft, light brown color. He looked forward and saw in the far distance that the opposite end of the continent was peeling inwards as well.

The Abyss was now like a boiling shrimp, trapped in an inescapable fate and curling up as it died. Tyrant finally got it in his head that the Abyss was dying. He may be slightly dense, but he was not ignorant. He started flying faster, this time flying up, to maybe get out of the continent before it sealed up like a dumpling. He did not know if he could survive the whole ordeal, but it was worth trying.

On his rise, the horrific light pulsed again, at the same time causing a dull gong to go off in Tyrant's heart. With the pulse, the land rose even faster, and rather than straight up like before, it started curling parallel to the land at a speed not much slower than Tyrant's flight.

Although fast, Tyrant was faster, he managed near the top of he rising land, but on his ascent, he felt the light growing in intensity the higher he flew. He also started to feel an unbearable pressure as he rose. Even with all this, the light could not stop him.

He began to breach the peaks, when suddenly he could fly no further. He noticed that other flying beasts who had the same idea as him, started to fall abruptly, as if grabbed by their necks.

He turned back to see that the land was twisting within itself, forming swirls like a frightening vortex. At the same time, the land was now a bowl, and within it the winds were whirling viciously, forming a powerful vacuum that pulled in anything trying to leave the pot of horrific fiery doom that used to be the Abyss.

Even Tyrant, the strongest of the abyss, and specializing in the element of wind, found it difficult to resist the continental scale of the wind vortex, which only grew stronger by the second.

He even split his wings into 3 and attempted to manipulate the wind to allow his passage, but the winds were too fierce, the light too strong, and the earth too fast.

The layer of land finally enclosed itself, but darkness did not return. Fire was still running rampant and illuminating everything a ghostly white, and the power of the light did not wane. Even though no one could see it, they could all understand that the mysterious light in the sky was only growing stronger. It cooked the abyss like pork shoulder in the oven, crisping the outside and tenderizing he inside.

Everything now started to dissolve into ash within, and the enclosed abyss started to wrap itself further like a burrito.

Tyrant was panicking. He was now trapped in the Abyss that was home, but was now a torturous chamber of white fire. He too, was baking in here. He could escape nowhere, so he did not bother.

At this point even he was too weak to move. He lied on the boiling earth helplessly as his surroundings constantly turned to ash.

He hadn't expected for his fate to end so soon. He thought about what Pluto had felt in his last breath.

Soon Tyrant too, was consumed by the white flames, and closed his eyes in resignation.
