11 A fateful Encounter

My eyes widened with confusion. I closed my eyes and focused, another ability most mages have is to be able to locate magic energy. I can only do this if I focus. I sensed 11 people below me, once in the middle with 5 on both sides. The one in the middle was either a mage or a swordsman because of the sizable amount of magic energy. I shouldn't be rash and interfere, for now let's just listen.

"There's nowhere to run, there's no escaping death this time" One of the surrounding men said. Death! This is more serious than I thought. I peeked over the edge to see more of the situation. I gasped in surprise, the men surrounding the guy in the middle all had black capes which is a tell tale sign of assassins. And there are no assassins sent by the king because they wouldn't make such a foolish mistake of attacking in broad daylight. I had to help him.

With my failed test as just an afterthought, I leaped down from the rooftop to the land besides the guy in the middle. He noticeably stiffened and turned towards me unsheathing his sword. Shoot he thinks I'm against him. I turned towards him and flashed him a sincere smile to stop him from stabbing me. I looked back to the assassins and announced, "10 vs one is such a cowardly move, it's really not fair don't you think?" "this is none of your business, so run along kid." one of the assassins replied. I stood my ground and held my head high, inviting a fight.

I usually don't like fighting but I can't stand how unjust this situation was. The assassin who spoke snarled and brandished his knife. "You chose the wrong path girl" he sneered, starting to approach me. I swung my hand and produced fire to keep the assassin at a distance. He jumped back away from the heat with a yelp. The other assassins then grab their knives on the verge of attacking. But before they sprung at us the man who spoke before lifted his hand freezing his comrades. He looked up confusion written on his face, "who are you?" "no one important, this is my warning to leave peacefully now. I don't want any conflict." I said trying to avoid any injuries.

He then smiled and started to laugh like he was in the most outrageous situation. "Do you know your position, do you think we would be afraid of a kid who can use some magic. Laughable!" he declared arrogantly. This time when he ran at me so did all the other assassins. "Back to back" the guy next to me mumbled. I nodded and backed up until our backs were touching. Then I focused on the people in front of me. I started to shoot balls of fire aiming at people coming at me. With that I could only hold them back. "This won't do" I whispered. I released an arc of fire to push them back one more time, then I changed my form to ice. I touched the ground and froze the floor in front of me. The 5 assassins in front of me all slipped and fell on the ground. With the time I was given I glanced behind me and saw that the guy I was fighting alongside wasn't killing any of them. With that in mind I came up with an idea. "On the count of three close your eyes" I whispered to him. He stiffened for a second then nodded. I smiled then looked back in front, and saw the assassins all up and closing in.

I changed forms again and blasted wind outwards from the two of us. "1, 2, 3, now!" I then closed my eyes and switched forms one more time and let out a blast of light. Using the distraction I got ahold of the guy behind me's hand and levitated up as fast as possible. I got to about 5 roofs over before I fully depleted my magic energy. I let go of my hand and sat down on the floor of the roof. What was I thinking getting into a fight? I cradled my head in my hands exhausted from over excursion.
