Chapter 41: A Second Opinion

Several days have passed since Lu Minzhe's conversation with his cousin Li Jianan. Initially in disbelief of Li Jianan's conclusions, he had immediately got in contact with an old friend, Liu WanSu, upon arrival at Y City International Airport. Dr Liu WanSu was a renowned physician practicing eastern medicine who had been introduced to Lu Minzhe by his grandmother when he was a student at Harvard Medical School. Dr. WanSu or Grandpa Liu as he preferred to be called, has since moved back to C Country and established his own clinic in the neighboring X City.

Once he confirmed that the doctor was in, Lu Minzhe immediately had Secretary Jin drive over to the clinic. "Pardon me, CEO Lu. Are you feeling unwell anywhere?" Shi Jin had asked concernedly only to receive a soft humm in response. Being the attentive secretary that he was, Shi Jin began to take note of his boss' odd behavior during their Seoul trip. Of course, CEO Lu still performed his work obligations impeccably however, outside of business matters he always appeared distracted and preoccupied with something. He didn't appear physically ill however Shi Jin cannot help but wonder why they were heading directly to Dr Liu after a tiring business trip.

Shi Jin didn't even dare to wonder about the impact on Lu Corp stock prices should CEO Lu truly have any issues healthwise. 'Aiii, what am I doing worrying about a billionaire CEO? I should worry about myself. I really want to see my wife.' Shi Jin lamented internally.  Recently,  the boss' schedule has been packed with several international trips one after the other. As a regular salaryman who had gotten this position by sheer hard work and determination, Shi Jin still remained continually in awe of his boss' business acumen and committed work ethic. 'This man is like a machine. Does he ever get tired? What ever became of that female companion whom he went grocery shopping with a few months back?' Shi Jin mused, as he drove their black Bentley on the G10 motorway.

As Shi Jin glanced at the rearview mirror to see CEO Lu browsing the news on a work tablet, the unfortunate secretary wondered when spring would ever arrive for his boss. Does it make sense that such a talented, outstanding and attractive man is still a bachelor? During the rest of the drive, Shi Jin began to speculate about the type of girl who would eventually win CEO Lu's heart.

Author's Note: Spring has come is used to denote that love has come or a person has finally fallen in love. ٩(≧◡≦)۶

The pair eventually arrived at Shunyi Clinic after an uneventful 30 minute drive. Shunyi Clinic is a modest 2 storied structure of traditional asian architecture constructed mostly of Chinese cedar wood. Liu WanSu was definitely an odd fellow. As an acclaimed physician in the United States, his contemporaries in the medical field had anticipated that WanSu would choose to stay as a tenured professor in Harvard; however, at the peak of his career he suddenly he chose to take his practice of oriental medicine to X City which at that time had only been a third class city. Liu WanSu built this small clinic and began to provide economical care to the less privileged inhabitants of X City and surrounding municipalities.

X City is currently an up and coming urban area that is seeing a surge in population as more and more businesses begin to settle in this city. However, Shinyu Clinic has been and always will be a safe haven, an oasis in the middle of a bustling hub. Since Liu WanSu had moved to X City, Lu Minzhe has been supporting his old friend via annual donations from his personal finances. He didn't want his personal relationship with the doctor to be tainted by Lu Corp organizational politics.

Dr Liu WanSu was a portly man with a head of grey hair and a pair of kind jovial eyes. Standing at the doorway of the clinic, he came up to greet the handsome young man who had called him requesting an urgent meeting.

"Ah-zhe! My boy! It's good to see you!" Liu WanSu cheerily welcomed Lu Minzhe.

"Grandpa Liu, you look like you haven't aged a day since we last met. Has it been 4 years?" Lu Minzhe mused and gave the doctor a warm hug in response.

"Thereabouts. Haha. Come in. Come in," the old man said as he guided Lu Minzhe into the examination room of the clinic.

.......

The room was decorated in an unpretentious manner with a calligraphy scroll and a single cot against the cedar wall. Instead, the wall itself was carved with the teachings of Confucius. There was a lone table with 2 wooden stools where Liu WanSu and Lu Minzhe were seated.

"Now let's not waste time on small talk. What did you urgently want to see this old man for?" Liu WanSu asked whilst putting on his spectacles.

"I think...I may have an undiagnosed heart affliction," Lu Minzhe said after taking a few minutes to compose himself.

"I see…. And what made you arrive at that conclusion? I assume you've seen your attending physician at Y City Medical University Hospital?" (Liu WanSu)

"Yes, I have. My doctor insists there is nothing wrong with me physically however the symptoms persist. Arrhythmia, heart pangs, throbs. They keep occurring in frequency." (Lu Minzhe)

"Hmm, that's very concerning," Liu WanSu said thoughtfully as he began to do a reading of Lu Minzhe's pulse.

However, after a thorough examination, Dr Liu WanSu had a conflicted expression on his face. With a slight frown he addressed the young man's concerns, "Ah-zhe, I have to agree with your attending physician, your body appears to be in good health. There's no indication of internal inflammation, stagnation, excesses or deficiencies in my reading."

"Tha-that can't be," Lu Minzhe replied with a frown.

"Ah-zhe, I am not discrediting your symptoms. But, they might be a physical manifestation of emotional stress." (Liu WanSu)

"Somatization?" (Lu Minzhe)

"En. Was there anything out of the ordinary that occurred recently? Something highly stressful. Something that inflicted emotional duress?" (Liu WanSu)

The pair was silent for several minutes before Lu Minzhe took a deep calming breath and began, "There's this girl…."
