20 Chapter 20: Lunch Date

The pair walked back to their table after sharing their greetings. Both their faces were wearing a smile as they began a light conversation.

Author's Note: Irene is Miyeon's english name. ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ

"Have you been waiting long." (Miyeon)

"No, I came early. You look really pretty, Irene." (Jesse)

"Oh.. Thank you." Then after a few seconds, "We match today." Irene said with a soft chuckle.

"Yeah." Jesse answered nodding shyly.

Irene was wearing a white off shoulder top blue denim skinny jeans and tan booties complementing Jesse's attire. Together they looked like a very attractive couple wearing matching outfits.

"How have you been this past 2 years?" Jesse asked. He didn't mention the numerous unanswered texts and calls he made over the period.

"I'm sorry I didn't keep in touch. I was going through something." Miyeon quietly admitted with a slight smile but didn't elaborate further.

"I heard Anna passed." Jesse mentioned quietly.

"Mhmm." (Miyeon)

"I'm sorry. Are you all right?" Jesse asked as he put his hand over hers on the table.

"I'm all right now. Thank you for asking." Miyeon responded with a smile as she felt the warmth of his hand over hers.

"Should we order? You must be hungry." Miyeon asked. She remembered Jesse was pretty bad at taking his meals on time.

"You still remember." Jesse laughed. His heart felt warm upon hearing Irene remember his quirks.

"How can I forget. You almost passed from hunger out so many times. Who else would play soccer on an empty stomach." Miyeon chuckled.

Miyeon motioned a nearby server and the pair quickly put in their orders. 'The Table' was a popular brunch spot in Y City specializing in British cuisine. Soon after, the server came with their food and drinks.

Jesse looked at his plate and his brows scrunched slightly. He had ordered Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding and had not expected the serving to be so small. Noticing his expression, a small laugh escaped from Miyeon.

"You can have half of mine," Miyeon said to Jesse. She had ordered scotch eggs with a side of shepherd pie which is way too much food for her.

"Did you…on purpose…" Jesse began but stumbled with his words.

Miyeon just tilted her head and gave a small shrug, "Maybe?" She smiled at her companion as she requested a small plate from one of the nearby servers.

'These small unconscious actions really make my heart full you know.' Jesse thought as he gazed at the lovely face in front of him.

"By the way, I didn't know you were interested in modeling." Irene mentioned casually.

"Yeah. I got into it because of someone." Jesse answered softly.

"Oh! Your significant other?" Irene asked.

"Not yet. I haven't told that person how I feel." Jesse admitted.

"Oh my! Then I wish you luck. Is she here in C Country?" (Miyeon)

"Yeah. She is closeby" Jesse replied staring intently at Miyeon.

Irene nodded with a smile and Jesse continued, "From now on, I intend to show her by my actions to make her feel my love."

"..." The person in front of her who looked so serious, so unlike his ordinary self, was quite compelling, Miyeon could only find herself nodding to his statement. As she leaned forward to take a sip of her hot coffee, she suddenly felt the warmth of Jesse's hand on her fingers.

"Hmmm?" Miyeon gave out a soft questioning hum.

"Wait a while, it's still hot." Jesse said softly, remembering how she'd used to burn her tongue on hot coffee back in their school days.

As if realizing the same thing, Miyeon just chuckled and nodded.

And so, the pair continued to chat through a leisurely lunch.
