2 Chapter 2: The Bestfriend

On the other side of Y City, Wei Shu Li or Stella Wei to her friends in the UK, lay on a chaise in a luxuriously decorated decorated room. She had been scrolling thru her Veibo while waiting for news of her best friend's blind date. Okay, she did fib and say that it was a regular brunch to catch up on girl talk but Shu Li was sure that Irene would thank her later. Her best friend has been single for over 3 years and she just couldn't sit still anymore. Everyone else has been getting engaged but her beautiful friend hasn't even gone on a single date ever since graduating from uni. It is just a complete waste of that face! Of course, Shu Li doesn't deny that she has her own agenda. If Miyeon dates a guy in Y City, then she will be less likely to go back to the UK.

However, just a few seconds later, Shu Li was dumbstruck with all the high society gossip and videos she was seeing in Veibo. At the same time, her Vechat started vibrating incessantly. 'Oh my God.' thought Shu Li as she clicked her Vechat messages. Suddenly, there was a video call.

[Miyeon]: Stella Wei! If you pull something like this again. You can forget about our 8 years of friendship.

[Shu Li]: Ireeeneee!! *crying face* I'm sorry!! I asked my brother to introduce me to a nice guy. I didn't bother to look into Hua De! I didn't know he was such a jerk!

[Miyeon]: …

[Shu Li]: I will teach my brother a lesson later! Don't be mad at me, okay? *cute face*

[Miyeon]: …

[Shu Li]: Miyeoooon ahhhhh~~ *acts pitiful*

[Miyeon]: Sigh. Wei Shu Li, I am serious. I am not interested in a relationship.

[Shu Li]: *cries* I know! I am sorry! I just thought that a relationship would do you good. Keep your mind off things. I am really sorry.

[Miyeon]: Okay. Just this time.

[Shu Li]: *happy face* Okay! I promise! *hopeful face* You're still coming for my birthday right?

[Miyeon]: … Yeah.

[Shu Li]: Yey! Don't be late! Miyeon-ah, you know I just want you to be happy right?

[Miyeon]: Mhmm. I know. *silence*

[Shu Li]: *slightly sad* Okay. I am hanging up. I love you! Talk to you later.

[Miyeon]: Mhmm. Bye.

After she hung up the phone. Shu Li's eyes narrowed at the young gentleman sitting across her. "Suhan-ge! How could you introduce such a guy to Irene?!"

Suhan looked aggrieved! "You never told me this was for Irene! I thought the date was for you! If I had known it was for…" A pillow flew across the couch and hit Suhan's face.

"Yah! What do you mean you thought it was for me?! Do you want to die?!" What kind of older brother is this? He would willingly match his younger sister to a douche like Hua De?! 'Ugh, I knew I should have just asked cousin Minzhe.'

Seeing that his sister was preoccupied with her thoughts, Suhan beat a hasty retreat and decided to go meet up with his friends at the club.

...............…..

Thirty minutes later, Miyeon arrived at her apartment. The apartment complex is located in a working class neighborhood a few minutes walk to the train station. Miyeon's outstanding appearance certainly looks out of place in this neighborhood. It was not that she dressed glamorously or used heavy make-up but her natural beauty and elegant way she carried herself. She gives off the feeling of the upper class. Initially, the other residents cannot help but wonder why a 'rich girl' would want to live in this type of neighborhood. Though it is certainly not in the slums or gritty part of the city, this area is definitely underdeveloped when compared to housing at the city center, thus the affordable rental prices.

A few weeks after Miyeon had moved in, the other residents gradually got to know the new addition to their building. She was courteous, quiet, and kind. She would greet them whenever she left her apartment and help the older tenants carry their groceries. Ah, she was the perfect neighbor you could ask for. The other tenants' hearts were appeased. The only thing they would like to know is whether Miyeon has a boyfriend so they can match her up with their son.

Of course, Miyeon was not aware of all these. For once she entered her one bedroom apartment and closed the door, she became a different person entirely. Miyeon slumped against the door and sighed. The few hours outside took nearly used up her energy for the day. Now all she wants to do is to lay in bed and sleep from early afternoon until morning.

Miyeon has been suffering from depression and anxiety for the past 11 years. Though as of late, her condition has taken a turn for the worse. She had been able to maintain a false sense of normalcy in public with much less effort. She looked around her apartment that she's been living in for a little under a month. It was sparsely decorated; a sofa and coffee table can be seen in the living room. There were 2 dining chairs by the kitchen counter and there was a double bed.

Needless to say, Miyeon hasn't had people over since she moved back to Y City. She also hasn't visited her family nor had she begun interviewing for a new job. Faced with these cumbersome tasks, she decided to take a nap instead.

An hour or so into her nap, her phone vibrated.
