13 Chapter 13: Doctor's Visit

Miyeon smiled at the texts from Jesse. They haven't seen each other for almost 2 years yet he was still the same as before. He is always like a breath of fresh air.

Knowing she still has ample time until Lu Minzhe comes over in the afternoon. Miyeon decided now was the best time to go to the hospital to meet Dr Lang for a refill of her prescription. She had been seeing Dr Robinson back in the UK and the latter had recommended Dr Lang as a notable psychiatrist based in Y City.

Miyeon wore a white square neck midi dress with a pair of nude wedge sandals. She wore very minimal makeup, only patted cc cream, and put on some lip balm. She went down the elevator of the apartment and prepared to take the subway to Y Fuxing Hospital. Miyeon was unaware of the stares and second glances she was getting throughout her commute. Instead she was mentally putting together a schedule of when she should unpack the moving boxes in the apartment and begin to do some job hunting.

As expected, the cost of living in Y City is very expensive. She took a look at her bank balance prior to leaving the apartment though she should technically be alright if she didn't find employment for another year, Miyeon knew in her heart that she wouldn't feel comfortable going through all her savings without some sort of back up plan. She briefly rested her eyes and decided that if she truly needed to she can go and get a similar consulting job in Y City. She was bilingual and had 3+ years as a financial consultant at a multinational firm in the UK. However, it was a job that completely burnt her out.

Dr Robinson had told her to find a job that she loves to do so it wouldn't feel like work. Miyeon had felt it was so funny back then. 'My entire life was work.' thought Miyeon. Forget love, it would already be a great feat to find something I like. In fact, nothing truly interests Miyeon. For her it was always a choice of something she must do or something she didn't need to do. She had worked extremely hard in the UK to get scholarships and earn money to put her through university. Immediately after graduation, she got a job at McKinsey to save money to buy an apartment and was completely self-sufficient.

In fact, the Lee Family only provided financial support for Miyeon during secondary school. When the support suddenly stopped, Miyeon had called Qin Anzhi to inquire about her college tuition fee when the latter just tearfully expressed the Lee Family business had not been doing well. Qin Anzhi did not provide Miyeon with any suggestions on how to address her situation nor did she offer to buy Miyeon a ticket back to Y City. It was then the 17 year old Miyeon knew that she was being thrown away. She couldn't even remember now how she ended that call. Qin Anzhi told her that she had an appointment and will need to hang up soon; she told Miyeon to keep in touch regularly. Miyeon was 17 years old, penniless and alone in a foreign country.

'Looking at myself now, I guess I grew up alright?' she wondered with uncertainty. 'Do a job I like? Can I have that luxury? Can I really find it? Something I like to do?'

~~ The next stop is Y Fuxing Hospital Station~~

~~Ladies and gentlemen: As you exit please be careful of the gap between the platform and the train~~

At Y Fuxing Hospital, she was able to quickly find Dr Lang's office; he had already been notified of her arrival by Dr Robinson. Unlike Dr Robinson who was a stocky and cheerful fellow, Dr Lang was a tall elderly bespectacled man that gave off the feeling of a quiet scholar. Miyeon and Dr Lang spoke for several minutes before the latter agreed to renew her old prescription. However she needed to return in two weeks time for a full consultation. Her condition has been worsening which got Dr Lang was worried she might no longer be able function to a semblance of normalcy. Miyeon was aware of this so she made a return appointment with the receptionist before she left the hospital.

...............….

After a 30 minute commute, Miyeon got off the subway station and walked the 15 minute distance back to her apartment. It was about time for Lu Minzhe to come over and take her grocery shopping. She had to admit it would be more convenient to buy groceries with a car so she grew elated as she got closer to her place to find to her dismay, an extremely conspicuous white Land Rover parked in front of the building. "..." Miyeon was speechless.

'This...this Lu Minzhe must definitely have some mental issue. I told him to drive something discrete!' she thought as she placed a palm to her forehead.
