2 1

I had always been a bit different, a little more delicate than the other she wolves in our pack. My father was completely overprotective, which was normal for male wolves. Especially because as a boy he had seen what the war had done, he had heard the goddesses cries as she felt the pain of her creations dying.

Werewolfs lived extremely long lives, they were practically immortals, one of the goddesses blessings. Another blessing was mates. My mother taught me at a young age when I began asking questions about why dad always got mad when other men came near her. Alphas were extremely possessive by nature. Mates were your other half, they made you complete.

Even though I was the Alphas daughter, people still didn't like me for some reason. I usually kept to myself because of how the others my age trated me. There was a school on pack land that all of us attended, even some humans as well. There was peace between our species finally, the Accords kept it that way. Werewolf had helped humans when they were being slaughtered by rogue witches.

Sighing, I sat at my desk, waiting for class to begin. I haven't shifted het for some unknown reason, and that meant I was the weakest in the pack. My brother, Max would be the next Alpha. He graduated last year and was helping my dad with pack affairs now. Each pack had its own Alpha, but each Alpha answered to the Alpha King. King Remington was currently mateless and searching. Dominant male wolves, mainly Alphas tend to get more aggressive the longer they are without a mate.

I looked at the words scribbled into my desk. Whore. Slut. Bitch. Die. Those were todays choice words the others used. Anna, my best friend came in and sat down, smiling at me. Her smile disappeared when she saw the words. She growled and glared at Kristina and her gang. I took a deep breath and shrugged. I covered my desk with my notebook and binder.

Mrs. Roberts came in and smiled at us. She recently had found her mate, which had made her kinder, especially after they mated. She coughed as the bell rang and everyone sat down and stopped chatting.

"As you all know, King Remington is searching more intensely than usual for his mate. He's feeling the mating pull that all our Kings have felt when finding their mates later than expected. This means that the Mate Ball is going to take place in the next two days. The pull is bringing him to our territory. This means the ball will be hosted by our pack and Alpha family."

The room was filled with sudden chatter at her words. I was filled with a sudden nervousness and excitement. Anna giggled and shook her head.

"Callie, I think you're a bit too excited for someone that avoids pack gatherings."

"I know.... Just..."

She nodded and gave me a quick hug. We turned and listened as Mrs. Roberts continued talking, launching into today's topic on mating. I paid as much attention as I could to the topic, but my mother had already given me all the information that was being discussed. I watched as the others asked all their questions with giggles. Finally, Mrs. Roberts was giving us a break. Everyone started chatting, planning what they were going to wear to the Mate Ball.

"I can't believe it! The KING. He's my mate, Vikki. I can feel it."

Kristen said loudly. I rolled my eyes and giggled. Of course she would say that, the girl was power hungry. She tried going after my brother, even though he had found his mate. That was disastrous for her, especially when she hurt my brothers mate. I loved Tasha like a sister. She was the sister I always wanted and never had.

A hand suddenly struck my face and Anna growled. I looked up at Kristens smug face. She did it on purpose. I was good at hiding all the bruising from the abuse the other pack caused from my father. I knew it would only anger him and he would do something he would regret.

"STOP LISTENING TO OUR CONVERSATION BITCH!"

Kristen screeched. I shook my head and looked away. I refused to let them see me cry. My tears only spurred them on most the time.

"Anna, just leave it alone."

She looked at me and nodded, handing me makeup to cover the bruising before we went home. The ride home was quiet and uneventful. The bruising on my cheek covered perfectly. I skipped into the house and ran up to my dad's office where he and Max were deep in conversation.

"Hey, daddy, Max."

They both smiled at me softly.

"How was school, sweetheart?"

"It was alright. Mrs. Roberts told us about the Mate Ball and King Remington coming to the pack."

"Yes. He's coming. He'll be here around midnight. He and his Beta and warriors are going to use the guest house. You are required to attend the ball."

"Of course daddy. I'll go shopping with Tasha and Anna."

"Perfect. Get whatever you need, baby girl."

I nodded and took his vredit card from him and went to grab Anna and Tasha. They were excited to meet their king. Shopping was uneventful, but we found the perfect dress for me. After dinner and a shower, I lay in my bed feeling restless. Something was coming, I could feel it.
