Party Planning

Sabrina sat alone on the couch while the other's slept. The nightmares plagued her mind, not allowing her to rest. Before she had been to worried about survival to think about her family, but now that she was somewhat safe, it was all she could think about.

How could everything go wrong so fast.

She tried her best not to cry. She didn't want the others to see her like this. She inhaled and exhaled slowly. These breathing exercises helped her to calm down. She needed to be strong because the situation that she was in was not for the faint of heart.

After a while of staring at the ceiling, she decided that she would try to sleep again and with that thought she made her way to the room. She layed down in the bed next to Riley and listened to the shallow and even breaths coming from everybody in the room. Knowing that she wasn't alone put her at ease and the breaths lulled her to sleep.

(The Next Morning)

She felt a slight tremor, thinking it was just probably her mind letting her know that she was awake, she stayed down on the bed with her eyes still closed.

The whole world seemed to shake violently and she registered a voice whispering a name that wasn't hers.

What?

"It's too early for this, go to bed Jason...", she said groggily, blindly shooing the person away.

How dare they interrupt her sleep?

"What? Jason? Oh my God... Lia!", the person whisper yelled.

Why does Jason sound like a girl?

The world shook again and suddenly all the events that occurred over the past few days came back to her.

Her eyes shot open and she looked around the room, gaze landing on a relieved pair of emerald eyes.

"You sleep like a log," she said with a little laugh.

"Mornin' to you too," Sabrina drawled with a yawn.

"Why'd you wake me up so early? Is there something wrong?"

"If there was something wrong, then we wouldn't be having this conversation. And it's not early, it's like past 11. You've been out for a while," Riley explained.

"Is it really that late?", Sabrina asked, eyes wide.

"Yeah, you sleeping okay?", she asked sympathetically.

"Yeah, great."

She didn't want to worry Riley and they just met so she wasn't ready to open up. Riley looked at her, unconvinced but didn't push. She knew all too well about walls and that they were always there for a reason.

Sabrina went to freshen up and Riley had given her a new set of clothes because she said, "You look like you crawled out of a dumpster," and Sabrina couldn't agree more.

Her new look consisted of a navy green long-sleeve shirt with black cargo pants and black combat boots. It was good camo and it fitted perfectly so that was a big plus. She tied her dark brown hair into a messy high-ponytail and walked out of the room.

Riley was the only one there.

"Where are the others?", Sabrina inquired while walking up to Riley, while she was busy putting something together in the kitchen.

"They went out looting. I didn't go because I wanted to talk to you," she said, eyes not moving from her work.

Sabrina went to the fridge to pour herself a cup of juice. There were 3 bottles, two were apple and one was grape. She chose the apple because according to her 'Grape tasted like purple.'

Once she filled her cup she took a sip and spoke, "What did you want to talk to me about?"

She turned around with a plate of scrambled eggs and a vienna, both smoking hot. It smelled heavenly. Just the sight of it made her mouth drool.

Where are these people getting their food from?

"Let's go to the couch, I'll tell you everything while you eat."

She handed the plate to Sabrina who took it and smiled gratefully and then walked over to the couch and plopped herself onto it. Sabrina followed, eyes glued to the breakfast meal.

She took her fork and began eating while Riley started to talk.

"So, remember I said that Cody's birthday is coming up? It's four days from now and I want to do something for him. I was thinking that Archer and I could go out and look for things to make his day....birthday-ish, while you stay here in the bunker with him. I mean you could also come with us, we can swap someone out to stay with Cody. I just don't want him to get suspicious. He'll want to know why he can't go on raids, but Archer will think of something. So yeah, that's the plan. You can't tell him about this, okay?"

Sabrina nodded with a mouthful of food. She swallowed, "Yeah, sure. Of course. You think he'd be comfortable with me after all that happened? Also I doubt that Archer would be too keen on him staying alone with him."

"Don't worry about that. Cody is fine with you. Also, Cody is more than capable in a fight and Archer has faith in him. The only reason you managed to get the jump on him was because we had a good day and his guard was down."

"O-kay then."

Riley smiled, "Tomorrow Archer and I are going on our first raid. You can come with me the next day. We'll leave the party supplies in the restroom upstairs. We're gonna need to unblock the door though, when you're finished eating."

Sabrina scraped up the remains of her food and devoured it, rubbing her stomach with a satisfied hum. She reached for her juice but then realised that she left it in the kitchen. Shrugging, she left her plate on the table and gestured to the stairs. Riley nodded in acknowledgment and they both made their ascent.

Soon they were in front of the restroom door. They tried to push it normally but it didn't budge, though it was slightly ajar from when Sabrina had tried to open it earlier.

"On three," Riley said and Sabrina nodded and braced her self.

"One."

"Two."

"Three!"

The both charged and slammed their shoulders into the door. It moved, now it was slightly more open, revealing more of the paint splatter and a part of the hideous clown. Sabrina could see his afro and eye peeking at them.

"Let's not do that. We're going to dislocate our shoulders," Riley advised, rubbing the spot where her shoulder hit the door.

"Agreed. Should we kick it?"

"Worth a shot."

"On three again?"

Riley nodded.

"One." "Three."

They both said in unison.

"Oh sorry, I thought I was gonna do the countdown," said Sabrina.

"Oh okay, you do it then. By the way, it's a countdown."

"Yeah, I know. I know."

"Okay, go for it."

Riley laughed and Sabrina rolled her eyes.

"One."

"Down!"

"Jeez, okay! Sorry! Three! Two. One!"

The soles of their boots collided against the door and it opened a bit more.

"Okay, one more time and we push," Sabrina said, hands on her knees.

"Yep. Right. Okay."

"You do the countdown this time."

"No. You do it."

"No, I just did it!"

"And I did it first."

"That doesn't make sense. We're alternating."

"But then it's not gonna be equal!"

"Who cares?"

"I do!"

"Fine! We'll do it together."

"Yay."

"Three."

"Two."

"One."

And with one last kick from both girls, the door opened, dragging the corpse of the clown behind it.

They walked in and were hit with the stench of the expired stink bomb and they both wanted to die.

"How expired was it!"

"I don't know, but it did it's job."

Riley closed the door and looked at the clown's mangled body.

"Archer beat the crap out of it."

Somewhere in the background, Sabrina was laughing.

"You guys, weren't kidding when you said it was huge. That's pretty impressive," Sabrina admitted and gave Riley a pat on the back. The black-haired grinned and they made their way out, closing the door.

"What if he goes in there?" Sabrina questioned.

"I doubt he will. I mean we've never opened it since that day, so why would he go there now?", Riley reasoned.

"Fair point."

The girls went back down to the bunker and decided to just enjoy the silence.

The hissing of the vending machine alerted them to the arrival of their friends who walked lazily down the stairs.

Cody carried one bag and Archer had two in each hand.

They hadn't found much things to protect themselves with, but they did get snacks.

So they all sat in their seats, munching on junk and having light conversations before they all went to bed.
