3 Magic Is Easy!

As they traversed the forest, it became apparent that Beri lacked any experience in surviving in the wild.

Although he had played and made plenty of survival games, doing it in the real world was a whole different experience.

Beri had a hard time keeping up with the pace set by Sari.

"I need to get in shape..." Beri muttered to himself.

After walking for about 20 minutes, they stood in front of a cliff face covered in vegetation.

"Where do we go now?" Beri asked. Wondering if Sari had gotten lost on the way.

"We're here. This is my home!" She proudly stated as she began to move towards the cliff.

Skillfully she began to move many layers of vines and other sorts of plants and revealed a small cave inside the cliff.

"Here we are, my little home!" as she said that, she began to move inside the small cave. Beri quickly followed after her fearing that he would not find the entrance if he waits too long.

As he moved through the layers of various plants. A small shelter could be found. The place Sari called home bore no resemblance to what Beri imagined it would.

Inside, Beri found a makeshift bed made out of sticks and various different dried grasses. There was a small table in the middle with stacks of the same material the bed was made out of surrounding it.

As he entered, Sari began to move things from the back of the cave. Due to how dark it was, Beri was unable to see very far, but he assumed that the back functioned as storage space for Sari.

Beri sat down on one of the stacks of grass. Looking around, it was clear that Sari had lived here for quite some time.

But it was not his business to ask about people's past, so he decided not to ask.

As Sari was preparing the cooking supplies, Beri decided to research the terminal he had discovered.

Looking through the terminal was relatively easy since Beri only had access to one folder, which was the 'Spells' Folder.

He had tried to sign in as an administrator to receive full root access, but he failed.

After giving up on the idea, Beri wanted to know if he could edit the Spell templates he had received and maybe even create some spells.

After some trial and error, Beri was able to open a sort of outdated-looking text editor in the terminal. From this editor, Beri first decided to open one of the spells he had used previously.

Since the terminal had already marked them as templates, Beri assumed it was okay for him to play with them.

After making a copy of the 'Light' spell, Beri opened it in the text editor. And what he found was both surprising and exciting.

'These Spells... They are written nearly the same way as a computer program would be' Beri was almost about to jump out of his stack of grass in excitement.

After some careful examination, Beri came to a conclusion. These spells were written in a format very similar to a computer program. Using what seemed like modules connected to the laws of this world, a person proficient in the 'Spell Programming Language could manipulate the world around them using mana as a medium.

The 'Light' spell was currently using only utilized two modules. First was the 'mana.manipulation', which was used to manipulate mana into a magic phenomenon based on its name.

The second was the 'attribute. light' module; this module was not precisely necessary; however, using this module allows the person to write the spell to use preexisting spell code instead of writing their own from scratch to make a sphere of light simply.

His curiosity got the best of him, and Beri began experimenting with the copied version of the 'Light' spell.

Beri's first goal was to see if he could change the size of the light sphere when entering the command in his terminal.

This was actually pretty easy, and with some trial and error, he was able to add an extra argument to the 'Cast' command.

With this, Beri would be able to enter a customizable diameter when he was casting the spell.

To test his modified spell, Beri once again opened his terminal and entered the command.

{cast -spell 'spells/ligtv2.spell' -size 30}

After completing the command, a perfect sphere of light with a diameter of 30 cm appeared in the palm of his hand.

After being suddenly blinded, Beri quickly canceled the spell.

[=---------] 1/10 Mana Remaining

'It still only took one mana? it was many times brighter than the last one?' Beri started to question how the mana cost was calculated.

Has he began to modify the spell again to see if he could adjust the brightness after the spell had been cast Beri saw Sari standing stunned by the brightest light she had seen in her life.

"Wow! How did you do that! That's not like the one from before!" Sari dropped what she was doing and sat down on the other side of the table on her own stack of dried grass.

"While you were preparing the food, I thought I should try and get a better understanding of magic, and I accidentally made it a bit too bright sorry," Beri said apologetically, known it was a bit rude to experiment with magic in somebody else home.

"Yeah, no problem! Magic is super cool, never seen it before actually only ever heard about it from books and stories," Sari said; she then began to recount some stories about knights and dragons as well as stories about mighty sages who travel the land in search for some legendary artifacts.

The stories were quite interesting since what Beri lack most right now was information. He had little to no idea of how the rest of the world functioned.

From what he had gathered from Sari, the world he was currently in something similar to the middle ages of Europe. But due to the influence of magic, the people of this world lacked any basic knowledge of medicine or even basic scientific concepts. Everything centered around magic.

Even with that, magic was vastly underpowered. The most talented and powerful mages could barely keep up in a fight against a knight of similar ranking.

During their conversation, Sari stood up to fetch what seems to be a stew from outside. Apparently, she had started a fire and begun cooking while Beri was busy experimenting with the 'Light Spell'.

As they continued their conversation, Sari suddenly stood up, seemingly in a panic.

"More magic wolfs are coming; we need to hide," Sari said as she began to cover up the entrance to the cave from the inside.

Beri was impressed since he had not even been paying attention. As Sari was covering up the entrance, Beri came to a realization

'Shit! It must have been the food. She said she went outside to cook! maybe they were lured here by the smell of their brother cooking in a pot!'

Before he could react, the howls of at least five wolves could be heard outside.

Once Sari was done, she sneaked back towards Beri and said in a hushed tone. "I think they found us, keep quiet; I don't think they can smell the food through the vin..." As she was about to finish her sentence, two giant magic wolves rushed through the vines before stopping 2 meters away from Beri and Sari.

Beri quickly pulled Sari towards him and pushed her face into his chest. As he did, he closed his eyes and cast the modified 'Light' spell from before.

While still keeping his eyes closed, Beri began to move forwards slowly. As he did, he hears what he perceived to be the wolves feeling.

Believing that he no longer was in danger, Beri quickly canceled the spell and released Sari from his grasp.

Sari quickly turned around to see the wolves now long gone.

"That worked?!" Sari asked out loud, but Beri believed she was not really asking more, making a statement of surprise.

Sari slowly moved towards the now open cave and began to look around.

"It seems that they have left; we should wait for a couple of hours before we go back out again in case they are close by" As Sari turned around, she noticed that Beri was no longer standing behind her. He had fallen to the ground unconscious.
