8 Safe House

It was about the evening time of the day. Dixie and Troy still hadn't been back from wherever it is they had gone. Lara woke up from her sleep. She had no idea when she had fallen asleep. All she remembered was, Shawn had been treating her wound. She took out a small pocket mirror from her bag and took a look. Her face seemed cleaner and she had a bandage around her head. She got up but stumbled. She seemed to feel a bit dizzy but soon was fine. She seemed to be alone in the shelter. The shelter had walls which made her feel a lot safer. But there wasn't a door.

She got up and drank a bit of water. She found fruit on Shawn's bag. Looks like he put it there. She wanted to eat it so bad but she wasn't sure if it was safe. She saw some meat and soup in a rock made bowl. Someone must have made a bowl by hollowing the insides. She opened up her bag and found three plastic spoons. She grabbed one and drank almost one-fourth of the bowl. The bowl was large so she assumed the soup was for all of them. She ripped a small piece of meat from the stake and ate it. She drank a little bit of water.

Once she was satisfied with what she ate. She walked through the narrow opening which was supposed to be a door. She looked around and tried to see if she could find Shawn. But, he was nowhere to be found. She went towards the back of the shelter where there was the 'bathroom'. She called out to see if Shawn was there.

Lara: Shawn!! Shawn!! You in there?

Shawn was not in there. She went back towards the front. She went in and sat on her blanket. She couldn't even surf her phone otherwise her phone would die and there would be no way to charge it. She didn't wanna go out to find anyone either. She was too scared. She was worried about Shawn. Where could he possibly go leaving her alone. So, she decided to do something while they were gone. She wanted to make a door. An actual door. Obviously not as fancy as the ones we have in our house but, at least it should work.

The first thing Lara did was, she removed the giant leaf curtain Dixie and Troy had made to cover up the entrance. She kept it inside so that they could use if they ever needed it.

She stepped outside and found tree branches and long logs of wood. Without anyone noticing, she carried them in one by one. She went a bit far in to find vines. She finally found vines which were the right width. Exactly what she was looking for. She took out her pocket knife from her pocket and started cutting vines. Once she had enough, she started cutting extra vines of all different sizes. But, all of a sudden, she heard a noise. It sounded like an animal was growling. This scared Lara terribly and cut the last vine and took off running with the vines wrapped around her shoulder. She finally reached the shelter. She began to cut and weave the vines into the long pieces of wood. She cut and shaped each piece to make it resemble a pole. She was an hour and a half in. Neither Shawn nor Dixie and Troy were back. She began to worry more but she didn't know what to do. She decided to wait a little longer and if Shawn wasn't back by that time, she would go out and look for him.

She finally finished with the cutting and weaving. Now, the door was complete. She had managed to put together the perfect rectangular shape for a door. Now, all she had to do was attach the door to the opening. She had to make sure it would work like an actual door. It had to be able to swing open and shut. She had saved a long wooden pole for this. Near one side of the opening, she mounted in the pole and used the vines to attach the door. She tied the vine in loops so that the door would open and shut smoothly. Lastly, she attached a wooden peg to the edge of the door so that it was sticking out towards her. She tied a vine to one side of the wall and created a loop. She fastened the loop on the peg. Lara had created a lock. It wouldn't actually work but in case of an emergency it would be closed long enough.

By this time, no one had returned. She decided to go find Shawn. Just as she opened the door. She saw Shawn standing a few feet away. She ran and hugged him tight. Shawn wrapped his arms around Lara. She began to cry as she held Shawn close.

Lara: Where did you go?!! I was worried. Don't just leave me all alone like that.

Shawn: Babe, I'm so sorry. You were asleep. Dixie and Troy hadn't come back so, I thought I'd go look for them. I totally lost track of time and when I realised how long I'd been out, I ran back. Come on, let's go in.

The two walked close to the shelter.

Shawn: Woah! Is that.....a door?

Lara; I made it while you were gone?

The two walked in. Shawn swung the door open and shut a few times. He was so surprised to see the door.

Shawn: It has a lock too??!! Amazing. How long have you been up/

Lara: Maybe, three hours now.

Shawn: You did amazing. Did you eat anything?

Lara: Yup. I to go out to get all the supplies to make this.

Shawn: Lara, be careful when you walk out there. Anyways, I may have gone searching a bit too far but, I found a house.

Lara: A house?

Shawn: It's small. When I walked in, it was all dusty and dirty. Inside, there's another door and that led to a basement. The basement is huge.

Lara: Kinda like Safe House!

Shawn: Exactly.

Lara: Tomorrow, we gotta go and check it out. Maybe it can help us out. Maybe, we can find some useful things of the former players that could help us out.

Shawn: You're right. Tomorrow morning after stuffing our stomachs, we'll head out there.

Lara: Shawn? We can't tell anyone about this. Not even Dixie and Troy.

Shawn: Why not?

Lara: I already told you. We can't trust them. Plus tomorrow, we grab all our things and leave at the break of dawn.

Shawn: So....you made this door for nothing? Timepass?

Lara: Of course. You the hell decided to go and find those two and leave me all alone. You must have been like 'I'm Beardo Pirate Guy. Let me look for people in dark scary jungle and leave my girlfriend all alone'.

Shawn: Ok. Ok. I got the idea. We'll leave tomorrow.

The two rested on their blankets all snuggled up. Eventually, they fell asleep. The real mystery was the safe house. What was its secret? Soon, it was early morning. The two were still sleeping. Taking rest so that they fight for lives once they woke up.
