2 Chapter 2 - Dracubus

Long Ago, Dragons ruled the plains. Millions feared them, Millions fought them, yet most of them failed and returned with only a few people left.

As time passes, Dragon sightings were slowly decreasing, until one day, no one has seen one. Dragons were still popular to this day, that even adventurers are still trying their luck to look for one, or at least witness one. Nonetheless, even in the most Isolated Islands, nothing was there.

"Sucks! I heard that wyverns still do exist but Dragons aren't! It's impossible!" A drunkard with a messy beard and fat belly complained as he was not able to witness one for his 40 years as an explorer. All he can see was Wyverns, also known as the secondary family of Dragons.

"But they still fetch a high price though... How about we instead hunt them, Father." A somewhat 20-ish young man answered his father while the rest of the men were looking at their captain and vice-captain, waiting for their commands.

"Your right son. We can at least sell their scales for a high price. I heard that a few numbers of them are spotted on the Quiet Maple Woodland. Or so we say, there's a nest there." The captain said with a grinning smile while slamming his cup on the table. All the men showed greediness in their eyes as the money they will earn will help them buy more beers, food, or even women if they want.

Currently, at the Quiet Maple Woodland. Alex was lying on the ground once again, while his blood dried on the ground. He was unconscious for at least two days, yet he didn't feel hungry, nor thirsty, all he needs is just rest from what was happening to his body and some information that was forcefully absorbed in his mind.

Unhurriedly, he opened his eyes and used his hands to raise his body but something was different. He can feel his wings, he can feel his tails. Yes, Alex has tails that resembled a fox as it was fluffy.

"So I'm half-dragon and half-Incubus, huh," Alex muttered as he examines his own body. His skin was pale and he was tall about 7'3 in height. His body was muscularly-lean while his hair was silverish white that reached down to his tails.

"Also... I can use shadows as my minions?" Furthermore, Alex recalled about being a Shadow Monarch, at least that was what the information told him. It was all too sudden but he didn't remember anything, even about his past and simply accepting this new fate of his.

"What it told me last was... Hero or Demon, I should be somewhat the peacekeeper. It gave me a mission. But what now?"

"Well, I should try this new ability of mine... Firstly, I have to locate a dead body or look for a creature to kill."

Agreed on what to do, Alex walked in a direction where the information he received told him. To familiar this world but only a minimum amount as he needs to ask people if he wanted to know this world more.

"Oh... I forgot I have this inventory thingy..." Alex closed his eyes and tried to think of the inventory ability. An ability that can withdraw and deposit items anytime without using Mana. Mana, the reason why people in this world can cast Magic and unknown powers.

"There is a... Hmmm... A longbow, five iron swords, and 160 iron arrows. Oh... There is also leather armor." He imagined withdrawing the items and a quiver with 30 stacks of arrows automatically equipped without hindering his wings while his armor covered his entire body in an instant. It looked average but at the same, it can protect him for now.

"I also have different kinds of abilities related to an Incubus and Dragon. Incubus resembled Lust while Dragon resembled Pride. I don't know about it but that is what only I can recall..." Alex raised his hand and thought of the element fire. It slowly materialized in his hand that amazed him. He can also freely increase then size, making him more excited but for now, he was curious about this Shadow Monarch ability he has.

Alex used his newfound abilities to climb on the tall trees effortlessly, he even managed to jump from one tree to another while using his improved sight to locate any creatures. And after many minutes of leaping from one tree to another, he finally found one.

"A green Nagarcuga..." It is covered in mossy green fur. Its long, prehensile tail ends in a bright red spike, and its eyes are a bright yellow.

Not a large enough monster but not so small either. About three times the size of a horse, but this creature resembled a wyvern. (AN: Most creatures are from Monster Hunter.)

As Alex landed on a tree, the Green Nagarcuga that was sleeping instantly opened its eyes and looked around while still in a sleeping position. Just by a slight sound, it was already on alert and now, it slowly stood up while shaking its head.

"Grrrrr..." It crawled for a few seconds until it's gaze landed on the man that was standing on a branch while already aiming its bow at it.

'Swish!!'

Alex fired without hesitation and aimed at its head. The monster tried to dodge but Alex was fast enough to fire and didn't think twice to fire. The arrow hit the head, piercing its thick skull but that wasn't enough to kill it so Alex fired three more round until the Green Nagarcuga was unable to move while its body flinched. Indicating it was dead.

"Sorry... But as I believe, the strong will rule. And if somehow to kill you, I have to do a surprise attack, then I have to. Even though it sounds cowardly." As Alex is half-dragon, he thought of his pride by fighting it fairly but as he was new to his world, he must discard that pride for now and only think of surviving.

While the creature was still lying dead, a mist flew out from its body while it flew towards Alex. He wasn't surprised at this because it is common to a dragon. The ability to absorb the essence of what they kill and have their strength improved. That's the reason why most dragons are into killing to have more essence and increase their overall power.

"Now then, better try this Shadow Monarch thingy."
