10 Opportunity

"Yes, your highness." Alsten gave a disgusting look toward the kneeling team leader before shifting his focus.

Alsten made a hand sign and murmured, "Hrafen."*

Countless magic threads formed an illusory raven-like bird. Alsten extended his hand, the magical bird rested on the back of his hand, he whispered something to the magical messenger bird and the messenger bird flew away. After flying away a little bit, making some momentum the messenger bird dissipated into the thin air like smoke.

After waiting a few minutes, the messenger bird reappeared, it flew toward Alsten and sat upon his right shoulder. Seeing the same messenger bird, Alsten frowned deeply, something was wrong.

"What happened?" The young chief also frowned. He also could tell that it's the very same messenger bird that they had sent a few moments ago.

The same messenger bird had returned, this only indicated that the messenger bird wasn't able to find the recipient or the person who was supposed to receive were all captured or dead, no recipient remained.

Alsten looked at the young chief with a worried face, he knew how powerful Alfgeir and his team was, but still, he was a bit worried. The young chief nodded at him, and immediately Alsten started to examine the bird with extremely cautiousness.

After confirming there was nothing malicious he closed his eyes and started to absorb the bird. While he was absorbing, his eyes, they turned completely white and the messenger bird's memories started to flow in his mind.

Alsten immediately started to describe what he was seeing in his mind to the young chief, "They had headed to the east. Brundolf, Foste, Havlar are dead. Their corpses aren't close, it seems they died at different times while chasing those damned abhorrences. They had changed their direction toward the northeast, ahhh! They had headed toward Dracendale. There is no sign of anyone else outside the valley."

After he finished seeing the messenger bird's memories, his eyes reverted to golden natural color. He looked at the young chief who was contemplating deeply and asked in a low voice, "Young chief, what should we do now?"

"Brundolf, Foste, Havlar, all three of them are elite soldiers, was able to kill them, the enemy must be very strong. I don't believe Alfgeir is dead, he can hold his stand for a long time even against me. He is capable to hold back those dokkalfars for some quite some time. We need to hurry, this is the very rare opportunity to shine, let's grab this rare opportunity and kills some elite dokkalfars. Hehehe..." The young chief grinned savagely, in his face, there was no remorse or pain about those dead elite soldiers. They followed him for a very long time, but he still wasn't sad or pained hearing their death news.

On the other hand, he was praying in his heart eagerly that, only if Alfgeir and others could hold those dokkalfars for a while that would be great, he would reach the scene and kill those dokkalfars and claim a very big meritorious deed.

There were many higher-ups had opposed the decision regarding selecting him as the young chief. If he could kill all of those dokkalfars, that would be one of the biggest contributions and it would work as the face slap to those old geezers.

The young chief let Alsten to take the lead toward the Dracendale while he ordered the kneeling warriors to return to the watchtower.

They were the warriors of the watchtower, there were a total of 351 watchtowers in the black forest which acted as the first defense perimeter against the Dokkalfars.

-------------------------------

Previously, a team of ten elves was chasing down seven dokkalfars, which was the very team that was led by Alfgeir.

While chasing or being chased, all of them were using various types of magic spells to fight, but the bows and arrows that were made of pure magic was their main weapon.

The Eladrin Court's elite soldiers were using magical golden bows and arrows to attack, while the dokkalfars were using pitch-black magical bows and arrows to counter. But it seemed those black weapons were quite powerful, whenever the black arrows hit something, the arrows would transform into black flames and the things which were being hit would burn to a crisp instantly.

A black arrow hit an Eladrin Court soldier named Foste in his right eye before he could even notice the arrow. And in a few seconds, he turned into a cindered black corpse.

"Those damned Dokkalfars!" Alfgeir took his position behind a tree while warning others, "Beware of those arrows. If it hits you, you will be dead beyond recognition."

"Yes, commander." Everyone immediately took the position behind the trees and started to counter the dokkalfars. The Eladrin Court solders or the dokkalfars both adapted to the fighting style, they would stop from time to time to attack or counter this way they made their way toward the Dracendale.
