68 Chapter 68

When Anita heard about what happened, she scolded Tara. "Your uncle doesn't have time to do his work and look after you," she said, but that didn't stop Tara.

Over the next few days, Tara begged constantly. It was all she talked about. Raj could not go anywhere in his house without Tara following him and listing a new reason why he should take her. Finally, Raj got special permission directly from Vivek for Tara to come with him. Vivek agreed after Raj said he could barely sleep with Tara constantly bugging him. Vivek needed Raj to be well rested and in top shape for his work.

Raj made Tara promise to not enter the main chamber. "You will see everything from the glass window," he promised. Raj explained this so many times and made Tara promise so many times that she got annoyed and just stopped listening to him.

"I've been to my dad's office before," Tara promised. "I know how to behave. I have to be quiet and calm, like an adult."

"That's right," Raj said.

When they reached Raj's office, he told her to wait outside while he went inside the lab. He wore his white lab coat, safety glasses, and thick rubber gloves. Safety was key.

Inside Raj's lab, there was a small chamber that was about eight feet tall with walls made from two layers of ballistic glass. The door was airtight and a pump was attached, so all of the air could be sucked out of the chamber, forming a vacuum. There could not be any air in Raj's experiments. Air caused friction.

Raj switched on all the lights so both he and Tara could see everything in the chamber. There were a few objects inside of it, including a ball and a box. The box was stationary. A small remote outside of the box controlled the speed of the ball as it moved in a circular motion around the top of the chamber.

Developing the ball was the first part of the experiment. It took Raj countless failed prototypes before he was finally able to manufacture a ball that could withstand speeds of up to 40,000 kilometres per hour. Once Raj developed the perfect material, Vivek wasted no time in patenting it and setting up a factory dedicated to producing it. Already Vivek had earned millions of rupees from this one part of the experiment alone. Raj was a goldmine. Vivek knew this was absolutely true. Though he never revealed this to Raj, Vivek ensured that Raj stood to make a lot of money, more than he had ever made, from this.

Vivek just needed Raj to finish this next experiment. It would make him the most sought-after businessman by governments across the world. Every single country on Earth would want it.

Raj was not having a good day. Knowing that he needed to watch Tara and make sure she didn't cause any trouble stressed him out almost as much as the results he was getting. The past few days, they had been perfect. He thought the project was finally done. It was ready to show to the board of directors. But now, no matter how many times he tried, he couldn't replicate his results. Nothing worked. By the afternoon, he was so frustrated that he chucked his compass toward the chamber and yelled, "Work! Just work! What's wrong with you?"

The compass hit one of the metal pipes connected to the chamber and slid under a desk.

Tara waited for him outside patiently. She didn't even notice his anger. She just focused on the ball. She loved the way the ball moved faster and faster, then suddenly became invisible. She was in awe. She wanted to be that ball. Then she would hop around and run and play anywhere she wanted and nobody would notice her. She could do whatever she wanted.

"Tara! What do you want to eat?" Raj asked her. He decided that maybe a break to get some food and relax would help. It would also give maintenance a chance to inspect the chamber.

"Pizza!" she yelled.
