34 Chapter 34

She hailed a cab to go to the airport. The guard wanted to help her, but she said she could manage. A few minutes later she was on her way to the airport.

"Last few days had been so frantic filled with emotional upheaval," she thought in retrospect. Her long time boyfriend had left her for a woman whom he barely knew for twenty days. Her entire world had shattered. The pieces were scattered and confusion reigned.

First few days of the breakup gave way to a myriad of emotions, which were overwhelming. She wanted to take the heat off herself, but it was impossible. She felt as if she had been wronged. Her life had been taken care of by her boyfriend. She refused to accept that the relationship was over and that her partner was moving on. It was nobody's business to decide that their relationship was over.

They were about to get married, just when his parents forced him into a marriage with someone else. She wanted to regain control over him by maintaining contact even after he was married. She was successful to a certain extent. But he just left her one day without saying a word; it was heinous. She saw him speeding on his motorcycle that evening never to come back.

She ran after him to ask where is going, but by the time she could run and talk to him, he was already out of reach. A few days later when he did not return for work, she enquired about his whereabouts, and came to know that he had been transferred.

Her boss Mr Gupta didn't reveal too many details. She knew that her boyfriend was Gupta's favourite and he would never reveal much. Mr Gupta was a middle-aged man who was handling the operations of the company in India. His director was very happy with him and he had certain clout over the director. His recommendations were rarely overlooked.

When she realized that he would never return to her, she felt daggers in the heart. She couldn't let it go. It came as a shock and her mind was numb. She didn't go the office for three days and kept herself to the apartment. She went through a bizarre, limbo state when things became hazy. The defeat felt bitter. Happiness had dried and aloofness had settled. Misery was the choice, but it turned into a habit in last three days. After that she was exhausted. She wanted to talk to her brothers about it but refrained from doing so as she didn't want to disturb them.

She went to the office on the fourth day and cleared her desk. She wrote a report on sexual harassment and filed it against her boyfriend at her workplace under the manager, Mr Gupta.

Mr Gupta was shocked to see how she behaved in such a scenario. He tried talking her out of it. "Why are you filing a sexual harassment report? This is inappropriate."

"I am sorry sir, but I feel he wronged me. I don't have much to say about it. I'll escalate this matter to the concerned department also," she replied.

She was so determined that Gupta didn't have a choice. He had to accept it.
