20 First Day Out in the World

Ke YongAn angrily glared at Huang Xing as she began to slowly limp out of the palace. She knew if she stayed within the palace, it would cause even more troubles.

However, Ke YongAn really rashly stepped out of the palace, for she had nowhere to go, no other clothes, no medicine, food, or water.

Dangit...if only I was a Spirit Awakening Stage practitioner, or better yet, Spiritual Seas level Expert. At the Spirit Awakening Stage, although one would still need to eat, sleep, and drink water, because of the overflowing life-force, one could use less of the natural substances of the world, or go with a longer time without it.

As for a Spiritual Seas Level Expert, they did not need anything of the sort, and thus, truly stepping on the stairwell of cultivation.

Ke YongAn decided to spend the night in a barn before bothering with such thoughts. After all, it wasn't like she could go back.

Limping, Ke YongAn dragged herself to the countryside and to the nearest house. Unfortunately it was dark inside(don't call her a peeper) and thus, laid herself without permission into the piled hay in the barn. The sound and smell of cows and donkeys assaulted Ke YongAn throughout the night. However, with exhaustion, Ke YongAn easily fell asleep.

Will I get lice? Oh well....

The next morning, Ke YongAn slowly woke to the sunlight pouring down her face. However, she caught sight of a man and woman hovering over her vision. For a few moments, she blinked blankly, before springing onto her feet.

"Why are you in my barn? Get out!" The man shouted after he saw Ke YongAn awaken.

Ke YongAn was startled, as she had not fully registered the situation.

Seeing Ke YongAn's confused expression and the wounds she suffered, coupled with that she was only a 13-year-old girl, the woman beside the man took pity.

"Du Ge, take pity. Look at her. She's done no harm."

Du Ge stared at his wife incredulously. They began to argue, causing Ke YongAn to have a headache. However, no matter how much Du Ge reasoned, his wife stood firm.

Finally, the man just huffed and walked out mumbling, "fine." Afterall, it was always humiliating to take back what they just said, so of course he would still have some hesitation.

"Child, how about you come back to the house with us? I will tidy you up." The woman spoke, grabbing hold of Ke YongAn's arm while she was still in a daze.

The grass swished against her legs. Exposed to the sun, Ke YongAn instinctively squinted her eyes.

"Ah, you don't have to." Ke YongAn was saying along the way, but the woman only chuckled and spoke reassuring words.

Ke YongAn wore fresh clothes after her wounds were bandaged up. In fact, it would be close to say she was a mummy, except for her face not being covered up.

The basic medicine was not the most effective, but it still made Ke YongAn feel much better.

"Thank you so much." Ke YongAn was only able to say these words over and over again, making her feel ashamed. After all, in the past, she could have dug out some gold coins from her pocket and used it as a gift.

"Aunt, uncle, I swear I will pay back this kindness in the future." Ke YongAn swore with a determined glint in her eye. The couple only chuckled lightly, not taking Ke YongAn's words seriously.

However, her stomach had rumbled at this unfortunate moment, causing the serious vibe to disappear. Ke YongAn never faced this hungry situation before. When she was on earth, she only needed to walk to the kitchen to fix up something simple, like a sandwich or some salad. When she came to this world, she was always provided for.

Ke YongAn felt embarrassed, but did not dare ask for anything to eat. Seeing this flustered side of Ke YongAn, the woman only smiled.

"I still have some stew and bread you could eat." With that, she rose and entered the dining room and returned with some stew and bread.

The stew was only at room temperature, while the bread was extremely dry. But to Ke YongAn, it was a haven. Even if she ate the most expensive and refined food back at the palace, to Ke YongAn, she far prefered this. It gave her a sense of home, as if her grandmother's cooking was reflected in this work.

Is grandmother still okay? She wondered, feeling another bought of melancholy.

That night, Ke YongAn made a resolute decision. She did not want to stay here forever, burdening the kind couple. Since Ke YongAn was sure that a pretty girl walking around would attract attention, she sneaked into the bedroom and stole some men's robes.

She packaged some spare clothes and took some dried food from the kitchen. At stealing food and clothes, Ke YongAn already felt extremely guilty. She left a note and a hairpin she had forgot was still in her hair.

Ke YongAn also had taken a small knife with her and cut her hair, letting it drift through a stream.

She then tilted her head to the cloudless sky filled with bright stars and started her journey, where she hoped to find some people for directions.

On a pathway through a forest, there were two carriages filled with cargo being pushed along. Many young men were in the lead while the young girls sat inside the carriage. There were some other hired experts around the carriage.

Suddenly, one of the young men caught sight of a person lying face-down on the road. Obviously the leader of this entourage, he signaled with his hand to stop.

Afterwards, he jumped off his horse and approached the person.

Surprisingly, that person was only a young boy in adolescence. He was very dirty, obviously not washed themselves for a long time. It was at that time that the young boy groaned and flipped over.

"Do you guys...have any food?"

Here's a guessing game...who is it?
