16 In a deserted area

Chapter 16: In a deserted area.

The next morning, I walked out of the bathroom drying my hair. I was stunned to meet Julie sitting on my bed with her phone. She looked up when she saw me and smiled. "Finally, you're leaving this house for good. I can't believe I'm finally seeing you leave." I shrugged and wiped my body with a towel. "Is that why you're here?" I asked.

I pushed up my track pants. "Yes. Just the satisfaction that you're almost ready with your bags." She looked at me steadily, biting her lower lips. 'She's beautiful!' I heard her through her mind. I smirked.

"You can leave or you wanna watch me dress?" I asked with a sly smile. "Bitch.!" She cussed and left, jamming my door behind. I scoffed and turned to my mirror, I absentmindedly ran my hand over my birthmark at the back of my neck. I turned, carried my bag and walked out of my room.

Being driven into a deserted area in the woods, my mom screeches her car in front of a small cottage house. She walks out without a word or a glance, just keeping her silence and I felt she was still annoyed after yesternight.

I step out of the car with my small luggage.

I took my time to scrutinize the outside layer of the house. The primary features of it include shingled, stucco walls, balconies, small porches, gable roofs, and bay windows.

Mom walks up to the small porch of the house and searches her handbag for keys, she finds it and plugs it into the small opening and the door creaks open.

As I stepped into the house, I found out that the house was more cozy and neat than the outside. It had a colorful, comfortable look characterized by painted or decorated furniture with graceful lines, weathered finishes, textural elements such as baskets, beadboard walls and natural-fiber rugs, and colors taken straight from a lush flower garden, a cosy armchair by the fire, simple wooden furniture, quilt-covered beds to sink into.

Beside the parlor was a two to three stairs up to a hallway leading to rooms and beside the dinning was a small door leading to the kitchen.

"Mom, the house is beautiful." I commented, sinking my butt on the white sofa. "Really beautiful, my parents used to live here." I looked at her quizzically. "Don't leave the house, Elena. I'll make payments for your plane ticket and if I'm not back early, wait for me. Do you hear?"

She turned around to go but turned back instantly, "A lady will be here to serve you meals. There ain't any service over here that requires using your smartphone. Don't worry, she knows the exact time to serve your meals. Bye baby." She looked sad when she looked at me. She simply exited the cottage. In a short while, I heard the sound of her car moving away from the vicinity.

Mom was getting weirder everyday. The other time, she shot me out of her mind, then she performed magic which I suspected she did though and now she kept me in a very deserted area, where you can't make a phone call, with an unknown woman to serve my food all the time. She was human.

I was in a daze.

After walking and looking around the strange quiet house with nothing spectacular in it, I walk back to the parlor and grab my luggage, ready to find any room open. There were five doors in the hallway and I sighed before walking through the hallway, opening the doors one after the other. I finally found one in the middle which opened immediately. I turned the door knob, I carried my luggage in and threw myself in.

The room was small and simple with a small bunk-like bed situated beside the window. I dragged my bag to the wardrobe and sank on the bed, which however was soft.

A figure came closer to my body with an axe in its hand. "You idiot!." A feminine voice says before bending over at my figure. I couldn't see her face as how dark the night had become. I went to sit up but she wrapped her hand around my neck and I gasped for air. "Let..go!" I wheezed out. "Shut up!." She ordered.

"I want to see you dead, gradually and painfully until there isn't any more life in you. You think you can stroll into our lives and steal Stefan away from me, destined or not!" She spat. My eyes widened as she tightened her hold on me letting my leg wriggled rapidly on the floor. She raised the axe up and immediately released it on my face.

My eyes snapped open instantly with sweats all over me. The bed was dampened with my sweats, so I suddenly sat up. It took me 5mins to finally know i wasn't in my room but in a strange house in the bush, where my mom had led me to hide. I looked out of the window and it was very dark outside. How many hours had I been on the bed?.

I walked into the parlor and sat down on the sofa not knowing how to call the unknown woman that I was famished by.

"Awake now?" A voice says from behind. I sprang up to my feet instantly in a fighting stance. "Easy, princess." She chuckled.

I look at this pretty aged woman in her eighties. She was fair skinned, long brows and long fingernails, and short kinky black hair. I didn't wait for anyone to tell me she was a witch.

"Who're you?" I finally asked. She didn't answer immediately, she came closer and dropped a plate I didn't notice she carried on top of the wooden table. She sat down and started eating, totally ignoring me. "If you wish to eat, yours is on the dining table."

The aroma of a grilled or toasted sandwich made with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese filled my nose. I gulped down hungrily and walked to the dinning, I grabbed mine and started munching on it. It was really a delicious dish to enjoy though I was very conscious of the old witch. I had already figured she was the one mom asked to bring my meals. I didn't know she could be this old and moreover a witch.

"Anna must be really lucky to have you. Elena." She said, Anna is my mother.

"I'm lucky to have my mom." I said.

"Which other way suits you. What does it feel like to live with humans?" Confusion washes over me. I was beginning to get uncomfortable with this woman.

I raised my brows and turned around so I could view her face. "I would have loved to stay but I have an appointment with the AHS." She dropped her plate and stood to leave.

"What's your name?." I simply asked before she reached the door. "Maggret."
