17 Captured by hunters

Chapter 17: Captured by hunters.

When Maggret left that night, the rest of my days in the house turned from bad to worst, she rarely showed up with food and drinks and never stayed back, neither did she take me to town, i could no longer hold back anymore, i carried my bag pack filled few things of mine and stormed out of the boring house.

Making up my mind to show myself at school and see if I could see Cathy. I needed answers.

I was stunned when a force sent me flying back to the house. "Damn!" A loud groan escaped my lips as the pain hit my abdomen.

I slowly got up and adjusted my clothes." I didn't see that coming. "

I made my way towards the barrier and muttered a spell breaking it off.

The moment I stepped my foot across the barrier which was probably guiding me from hunters, I breathed out knowing I had disobeyed her again and the consequences of being out in the open hit me. I was tired from staying in one place, acknowledging the fact that I hadn't been able to see mom come back.

It had been five days since she left and I found I was tired from staying in a house in the bush.

I sped out of the woods and in a few minutes, I was out waiting for a cab to pull off by the roadside.

In less than 20 minutes, I finally saw a car driving towards me, I waved my palm and it stopped in front of me. A woman in her late thirties popped her head out of the window, with the car buzzing out low music.

"Where are you heading to?, young lady." I gulped down. "Going towards Manhattan?"

I asked. "I'm going towards Marble hill. Hop in."

The drive took 40-45minutes to WHLS, I stepped down and offered a thank you before going into the school. I strode to my locker, bringing out my books and stuff, and quickly pushing them inside my bag.

I walked through the hallway leading to the detention class but was pulled into the toilet by strong hands. I yelped out and freed myself immediately. "Stop dragging me in like a dog." I snorted at Cathy. She rolled her eyes.

"The hunters have been on my trail.

I looked for you to make sure you're safe but never found you."

I laughed.

"To make sure I'm safe?" I asked, unable to believe her words.``Not in a way though. I need your help." She whispered.

"You need my help?." I asked again and she stomped her foot aggressively. "Fuck!. Stop throwing questions at me and listen. I need to find my twin, and I can't do that alone."

"Does it involve killing?" I throw her a glare. She shrugged and nodded.

"Are you crazy?'' I can't hurt humans. I can't kill"

"Shut up!." She roared, her iris had turned pitch black. "These people are not humans. They are evil, they kill most of us out there because they think we harm humans." I scoffed.

"You kill humans." I stated plainly.

She looked dumbstruck and averted her eyes from mine. "What about your kind?. The harmless mermaids," I scoffed, "I'm not a mermaid. I am a human being," There was silence, "You said you wanna find your twin?" She raised her two hands up in 'whatsoever form' with an eye roll. "Look, I don't wanna be a part of this. You harm humans and so do they reciprocate the gesture."

"They torture mermaids, make them cry, and when our cries turns to pearls, they sell them and become richer and that's why we kill them, okay."

The next few minutes were quiet between us, leaving me pondering on what Cathy just said. The reason why sirens never relented before killing humans was the way they make money out of them. They automatically become their sales. "I'll help you find your sister." I blurted out and her eyes widened at the news instantly.

The door to the toilet flung open and Wendy in a black cardigan and jeans walked in.

"Not so fast." She raised something like pepper spray up and sprayed it on our faces.

My eyes begin to get heavy as i watch her smirking evilly, my hearing started to deform, trying to stand firm and focus, but i ended up falling slack on the cold floor, i try to focus and blink but my eyes were becoming blurry by the sec until i finally gave into darkness.

I woke up, chained down on a chair, and beside me was Cathy in a similar position as mine. The only difference was that she was unconscious while I just woke.

My back hurts badly from being tied for such a long time. Wendy, really we were in a mess. We were captured by hunters, the very same people my mum tried to protect me from.

Faint voices were heard outside, it became clearer as I heard a boy and girl argue outside, and then the iron door opened and three figures walked into the cell. Two continued arguing while the third one looked at me strangely. "Guys, Look." He said, calling the attention of the others. He pointed at me.

They looked at me and gasped. "Her eyes and hair are glowing.

"What?" I do not know what they are saying right now.

"What is she?" The girl asked and no one seemed to have an answer.

"She is not staying with me." She stated.

"I've argued enough. She is not staying with me either." The other retorted.

That was when I knew why they bickered at each other. "Stefan must have heard this. She's not an ordinary human, she smells human, not a mermaid and it is against the rules to capture humans." I look up at the mention of Stefan's name. He was their leader?.
