Spring of the dead

*Takashi Komuro's pov*

*yawn* I should probably sleep more at night. I can't keep on skipping classes forever.

"Hey, Komuro. Ditching class again?" I heard someone calling out for me.

"Morita." I turned around and recognized him as one of my friends.

"You too? I didn't get a lot of sleep last night. Screw class..." Apparently, Morita also skipped class today.

"You also got rejected by a girl in your class...didn't you? That's what I heard." He asked an annoying question, that bastard always brings up annoying topics. So I simply stayed silent.

"I know you two have been friends since you were kids and all, but Igou already snatched her up. since she got held back all three of you are in the same class." He once again kept going on about it.

"Rei..." That's the name of the girl I've always liked... Even if I try to lie to myself I know that name will always affect me.

"Is the one who wanted to go out with Hisashi." She ended up dating the guy I saw as a best friend...

"I bet that must be a real pain in the ass." Morita replied while trying to show some empathy.

"Igou's a good guy, with looks and brains, and he's good at sports to boot. So I don't blame her." He indeed sounds like the perfect guy huh...

"Uh... Huh.. I mean.. Uh" Morita couldn't find the words to reply to me so I turned around and smiled at him while acting like everything was fine.

"I think I'll take a nap on the roof." I said while keeping on my smile.

"Okay. I'm gonna go hide out at the dorms.

"See ya."

"Bye."

I went to lie down on the roof but everything made me think of her. Looking at the sky made me remember all those times I've spent with her ever since we were kids.

"Pinky promise huh..." I used to believe in those. I believed me and her would end up together just because she promised to do so when she was young. So stupid isn't it?

Now she even got held back a class. But the way she acts with me is totally different. She always gets mad at me for every little thing and always brings on her new catchphrase.

"You wouldn't understand hahaha" What is it that I can't understand but he can? What made you choose him over me?

Even if I tried to hide my jealousy it was useless. That feeling never disappeared and always came back stronger every time she was mentioned. Now I can barely look them in the eyes.

Without even realizing it I ended up falling asleep with those thoughts in my mind.

"What a load of bullshit.." I woke up with the wind hitting my face. I slept well but even so, my bad mood didn't disappear.

But I heard some noises coming from the gates so I went to check what was happening.

"What the hell is going on...?"

Some teachers went to the gate to check on what was happening but a weird man bite off a huge chunk of his arm.

Then the man who got bit laid down for a bit but when all the other teachers went to check up on him he grabbed the shirt of one of the female teachers and bit off a chunk of her neck.

I couldn't tell what was that madness nor could my brain comprehend the situation but before I could even realize it my body started moving.

I ran.. I ran as fast as I could. I had only one thought in mind. I should save Rei.

I went straight towards our classroom and opened the door then went in hurriedly while ignoring the teacher's words.

"Komuro! Not only are you skipping but you're disturbing our class!" Our teacher yelled out.

Her words didn't reach me as I went straight toward Rei and grabbed her wrist.

"C'mon. We have to get out of here." I didn't have time to explain the situation since even I myself didn't understand it.

"What...?" She looked at me with a confused look so I grabbed her arm tighter and pulled her up.

"What are you talking about!? I'm in class!" She yelled, at this point the whole class was looking at us.

"Trust me just come with me!"

"What the hell are you doing Komuro!" Even Saya started yelling at me but I didn't care about that and only focused on Rei she's the only one I was trying to save.

"Takashi. What are you doing to Rei!?"

My best friend grabbed my arm and stopped me from taking Rei with me so I explained to him that there was a murder at the front gate. Luckily he seemed to have believed me rather easily.

"Heyy!! Unless you explain yourself, I have no-" Rei started yelling even more so I instinctively slapped her to make her get back to her senses.

"Shut up, and listen to me!" We didn't have much time left.

The 2 of them finally agreed to leave the class alongside me so we all ran in the hallway while I tried to explain the situation to Rei as best as I could.

Hisashi suddenly asked us to go check on the lockers so we all followed him.

"What, did you forget something?" Rei asked.

"If what Takashi's saying is true, you'll want these." He replied and then handed Rei a mop handle then gave me a baseball bat.

We asked him about himself but he simply replied that he was a karate black belt and that he would be fine unarmed.

"Let's get out of here, I want to check in with my family." Hisashi said

"Family huh...?" I haven't thought about them in a while.

"We have to call the police first!! My dad's an assistant inspector so he'll come for us!" Rei said while panicking.

"Give it a shot." I handed her my phone while hoping that it might work and they would truly come.

Unfortunately, the only thing that we received was an automatic reply saying that the 110 lines are all full.

"Faculty, please lead the students through emergency procedures and evacuate immediately! all students and faculty! all students and faculty there has been an incident on campus." The message was heard throughout the whole campus.

"Again I repeat there had been an incident on ca-" Suddenly we started hearing a lot of noises and a horrible cry coming from the same voice that initially did the announcement.

We could hear all the students around us start panicking

"Help me, please!!!! Help they're going to kill me!!" Those were the last words of the announcement before it cut on another horrible scream.

We all looked at each other and agreed that we should go run and hide somewhere but after seeing the huge number of people fighting to get out of the building both me and Hirashi figured that we should get out through the administration office.

Suddenly we came face to face with Wakisaka, the social studies teacher, but we immediately noticed that something was very off about him. He didn't look alive at all.

"Run!!!" Rei yelled towards us but as if he heard us the teacher started coming towards Rei who got into a fighting stance and pointed her stick towards the man.

"You should never cross a member of the sojustsu club!" Rei yelled while planting the teacher in the heart, but even after that he still kept moving towards her.

"It's going through his heart! Why is he still moving?" She tried pulling out her stick but couldn't.

Suddenly Hisashi jumped on the teacher from behind and caught him by his shoulders.

"Rei!! Now's your chance! Pull it out!" He yelled while trying to hold back the teacher.

Rei managed to pull out her stick but I saw that something was off.

"Hisashi let go of him!! Wakisaka's not normal!!"

I tried warning him but he didn't listen at all and said that he had everything under control while tightening his grip on the teacher.

But suddenly the teacher started bending his neck in a very creepy and not human way then opened his mouth wide and was about to bite Hisashi.

Luckily, out of seemingly nowhere a bat came flying towards the teacher at such a high speed, it crashed down on his temple and blew his head open, the scene was so gore that I almost threw up.

"Be careful buddy, getting bitten by one of those is bad news you know?" A voice came from the other side of the hall.

We immediately understood where the bat came from. A foreign looking, tanned guy with kind of long dark hair and brown eyes started slowly walking towards us.

He looked a bit shorter than both me and Hisashi but his face and clothes full of blood convinced us that he was extremely scary. We were all panicking because of what happened but he simply kept advancing towards us with a small smile plastered on his face.

"Who are you?" Rei asked while unable to hide the obvious fear she felt towards the man. We all understood her feeling, an instinctual fear you couldn't suppress even if you wanted to.

Even if he was also scared, Hisashi stood in front of her as a way to protect her from the mysterious man who suddenly appeared in front of us.

"It seems like I've made it in time." The odd guy said in a low voice.

The man didn't answer us but instead tried to catch his breath. He looked tired as if he kept on sprinting for a while. But that didn't take off the creepy vibe he had around him.

"Let's first escape then we will take care of the introductions alright?"

He said while picking up his bat from the now "dead" teacher
