The House is Alone

Chapter 1

The House is alone… The House is birthed in a trying era. The House first had The Man, and The Woman. They brought The Creature with fur and whiskers; the nights soon echoed with howls and the pitter patter of tiny rapid movements. The House was filled with laughter, tears, and The Man and The Woman's yelling. Later The Woman grew, and grew, and grew. One of The Houses rooms is painted a light calm blue. They brought a small one in shrouded in a light vibrant blue shawl. The nights were filled with cry's and deeply exhausted sighs and They rose from stolen rest. The Home experiences many first with its Family, first walks, first words.

Soon The Home is filled with The Boy's jubilance and its walls with small shapes resembling its Family. Its bannisters are marked with growing lines that match The Boys stature. The Woman grows again, The Home has a new room painted and iridescent pink. Once more The Home trembles with wailing and tired sighs. The firsts begin anew, albeit reduced with the noted repetition for both the Home and its Family. One day The Girl sobs, and before The Man or Woman and reach her The Boy arrives, sheltering its sibling with comfort and the last of his exhausting candy.

The Family grows older and with them their Home settles, its walls no longer groan, its boards quiet under foot. The Boy takes wheeled baggage away, amidst hugs and waves. The Family weeps at his departure. The Home does not understand why the blue room lies quiet, or why The Man and Woman gaze into it almost as if they wish to preserve what remains. Before to long The Girl packs wheeled baggage as well. Embraces and tears are shed, All feels the sucking silence that has vacuumed its space. Its banisters gather dust, Its stained carpet each a memory shared and treasured by All.

The Couple in their silence begin to change The Home in small pleasant ways. Its rooms repainted into calming colors, Its stained carpet replaced with individual boards. The Home is permeated with the kind of love only overcome trials, raising The Girl and The Boy, and a deep sense of familiarity bring. The Couple leave on occasion with the dreaded wheeled baggage, The Home tries each time to find comfort in the belongings left behind. Each time The Couple returns and they along with their home are comforted with the return.

The Couple and their Home begin to age both bones and boards groan. The quiet is a comfort for All, memories unsaid are touched about with earnest nostalgia. The Boy and The Girl return for brief moments carrying new small family members. However, one fateful day the belongings are taken away, the Couple pack boxes and bags never to return. The House is visited only by strangers, strangers who peer and judge. Strangers who hem and haw, strangers who do not share The Homes memories. Strangers who leave The House, leaving only a sour bitterness. Why had its family left it, why was it no longer a Home?

The House is alone. The House was alone…
