11 Chapter 11: The Semi Hobo

I left the house in 2003, brought some canned food and any other thing that might help me endure this thing. I rarely plan on anything so leaving mom and my family was just stupid. But before I left, I submitted my resume to ome low paying mall jobs, hoping for the best. I don't even have enough money to travel back to Bulacan. All I have is maybe enough for me to survive for a week. I also brought every single credentials I have just in case I get hired.

I really want to win that TV and bring it home. My 21 inch TV broke just about a month before going here. I didn't even know that there would be a big raffle happening now. I think I will win that thing, I feel it is destined to be mine. Just like what destiny gave me when I have nothing at all.

I stayed with my friend Eugene when I left home. As long as his family accepts me, I don't care if I slept on the floor or something. And for a week or so, we patiently waited for any result to those jobs I applied for. He gave me temporary shelter, food, and some transportation money as well. I am forever thankful to you, Eugene Jaromamay. And then lady luck smiled on us one day. I was asked by that hardware store to take an exam and see if I can pass it, which I did, and lo and behold, I will start in a week! This job is only a contractual one for 5 months only and if I did better, they will offer an extension.

I was completely humbled by that experience and it changed me a lot. I never entertained drugs and vices anymore, I just focused on my job, which I really enjoyed a lot and learned so many things along the way. I left Eugene's home after 6 weeks and thanked everyone there. I moved to a very tiny room-for-rent place for a cheap price and stayed there for 2 months. I was very thrifty and every peso counts for me. One day, My employer asked for a document which I have failed to comply yet. My birth certificate and I need to get it with my mom or else they may fire me.

There will be 20 names to be called in the raffle draw and about 11 pm, they started calling out the names. Grand prize is a Motor cycle, 2nd prize is a cellphone, and the 3rd prize is the TV. And I knew it. I won a Power Bank. It's time to get out of here and go to that meeting. Ah there is still one thing to be done. The passing of the torch, with picture taking ceremonies and the singing of our school's anthem. Alma matter Letran ..
