Ch 3 secret problem

Joseph looked at the forms he was required to sign and found it daunting to say the least there were probably 70-80 pages that just required signatures. He tried reading a few in the beginning but most of it was lawyer jargon and he couldn't understand it let alone know what he was signing. After signing Joseph was led into a room that was white, all white including the table and bed all except for the tray of tools that was chrome. everything was white and spotless Joseph reached out to touch the tray it was full of tools but most looked harmless he even knew what a few of them were after waiting in a chair at the corner of the room a frazzled looking man in a white lab coat stumbled in to the room " hello Mr, Humbridge you can call me doctor Git most people do anyway " Joseph looked at the man in an odd way "is Git short for something?" The doctor smiled big almost as if he was waiting to hear that question "why yes it is!" He chuckled "Git is short for Git outta here!" He burst out laughing and holding his side he pointed at Joseph "do you know how useful a medical doctor is to a technology firm slash archeological company? Most of the time I'm useless for anything except the semiannual physicals so I get told to "Git" he said as he motioned quotations with his fingers Joseph wasn't sure why but the doctor kinda put him at ease it was a terrible joke but the fact that the doctor seemed so genuine made Joseph feel better "so I guess I'm supposed to have a check up or something?" Joseph asked the doc smiled slightly and nodded he motioned for Joseph to sit on the hospital like bed so he complied.

After the check up, and a couple blood and saliva samples were taken. Joseph was lead to a shuttle that flew him towards where he was expected to stay for the entire term of the testing.

Henry was in his office when he got the message that Joseph was finally finished with his check up and headed to his accommodations. "Excellent now all I need is to get him to verify that he is who we think and everything will be perfect." Henry had everything riding on this company a place called Gen-tech would sound like a medical research company but due to the commonplace accessibility to get stimulants and other things on the cheap the medical aspect of the company was basically charity their real bread and potatoes was earned from military contracts that required them to stay the most technologically advanced company for the sake of staying afloat financially the company itself made more than 12 trillion credits a year from the government contracts and a small mess up could ruin everything, but this is the place Henry loved to be it was exciting and the position he was in let him be what was described as a shark although many others might describe him as a snake.

Joseph arrived at his accommodations and found they were pretty nice it wasn't really the size, but how open the place was and the lavish furnishings of the room made him feel like he was at a resort Joseph smiled big and dropped his bag of cloths he was given by Kyle is late friend that died of heart attack at the early age of 27 Joseph still found the memories fresh that his three very best friends had died mysteriously from seemingly natural causes but before the feeling of dread could overtake his mind he quickly switched gears and focused on exploring his new place from his bedroom he could see the city that was still new to him the world of helix was still covered in vegetation and the sight was a little disconcerting the vegetation of earth was destroyed many hundreds of years ago now they had air filters that broke down ocean water not its basic components and shot oxygen into the atmosphere they had plant life on Mars but that was all grown from seeds that where saved by the aristocracy only the rich could afford to have plant life around their homes but Helix was absolutely covered in plants trees and life in general surprisingly there were no predators on Helix all animals seemed either small and cute herbivores or large muscular beasts that sort of resembled old earths cows but they had hair thin tendrils of exposed and moving nerves that stemmed from their necks Joseph was semi successful before his financial and emotional fall he even had a cactus in his kitchen that costed 1500 credits it was a plant about the size of a fist and really livened up his apartment.

The average person on earth made around 200-350 credits a week and because housing was based on meritocracy everyone had homes the type of home depending on what and how someone contributed to society early on people in school who graduated from nice schools with a 3.5 or higher grade average usually were given 1000 square foot apartment and if they went on to gain further education they would be upgraded to having more than a 1 bedroom apartment if they joined the military and served for the full term they would get a small house with a tiny yard that they could choose to buy either a fake lawn or if they felt overly confident buying actual seeds to grow a lawn only those that spent 10 or more years in the military or became someone of political importance would get medium sized to large homes their pay was also depending on how important their role to society was like Joseph had a job that was in the field of security installations and maintenance was granted a salary of 750 credits a week and he was working hard to be promoted to manager which would double his salary people also got a food ration of nutrition packs that once you ate one it would provide the needed nutrition a person needs per day you cold also buy extra food that actually had flavor for as little as 10-20 credits it most people at the bottom of the food chain only used their money for stims that would give them the feeling of happiness or accomplishment the stims would program their brain to have positive outlooks and some were even stimulants that could bring a bodily warmth and comfort but none of them lasted more than an hour and would have the after affect of an emotional numbness that lasted another hour.

Joseph took a stim that's effects would be a slight sense of happiness it was the cheapest stim that costed 15 credits and lasted for 2 hours because of the lack of strength it would seem to last longer Joseph moaned in pleasure and let the happy feeling take over for a bit.
