5 Painful treatment and welcome distraction

Doctor Git was explaining to Joseph what the cleansing would include and how unpleasant it would be if he wasn't relaxed " the cleansing process is not really what it sounds like it's not taking impurities from your body but amplifying certain genetic markers that make you well... you." Joseph nodded and seemed distraught "so if I struggle in the machine it might amplify the wrong genetic structure and mutate causing an aggressive cancer, but it can and will cause pain regardless of whether I struggle or not due to the way it works?" Joseph asked "that's just about the gist of it" the doctor frowned feeling bad about this whole thing he had no clue that Joseph had signed such a strict NDA and underlined contract if he had known he would have called Joseph in secret to tell him to bring his own lawyer to make sure everything seemed up and up but that is all to late now on the bright side the content of the contract offered some solace because the amount of time you are obligated to serve someone or company was based on the amount offered and 50,000 credits could only legally hold Joseph in a 1 year long contract.

As Joseph left his first Cleansing session of which he had to do 10 times more before the desired results could be brought up he was carried by security to his room due to the almost catatonic state the pain left him in the pain would lessen but the stims altering Joseph's genetic structure made things much worse that it would ever be otherwise not to mention it was obvious Joseph was already feeling withdraw symptoms from not having his daily dose of happy in an injection. Stimulating drugs weren't illegal but they were taken seriously and the only cases of acceptable use of them was when you had a medical need for them.

Just as the door closed doctor Git felt his wrist communicator vibrate he looked down and went ghost white. "Hello?" He answered but all he heard was a heavy breath and partial grunt as he could tell the phone was being moved around suddenly (her) voice was heard and he felt even more blood leave his face "hello doctor have you had any success in finding any valuable information for us seeing as how you're the only plant we've sent that still presently lives I can assume that your work is truly dedicated to avoid detection" Alysa said. The doctor just nodded and gave a short "mhm" as he stood up and went back to his own quarters to play his daily opera music the doctor put on his Earpiece and spoke softly "I am the only one left because I'm usually careful ms Draconia. How can I help the cause today?" He heard her shift around and assumed that she must be upset in truth she felt embarrassed and scared for the doc as she had potentially blown his cover she leaned back towards the phone "ahem anyway... It's just as I've asked what new information can you give me I got reports from our spie network that Gentech has spent a whole lot of money to gain a man named Joseph Humbridge and they did so through about 60-70 back Chanel's and side businesses to throw off surveillance it must be serious " Doctor Git sat down "this is gonna be a bit of a big deal actually." The doctor said as be began detailing all he knew about the new alien tech and how the man Joseph tied into it all

Joseph woke up after falling unconscious in the lab due to the absolute pain involved in changing ones own genetic code at first he was relieved that they were willing to put him asleep before starting but the pain broke his unconscious state into a full unable to sleep state after the first five minutes the needles that where shoved into his body weren't bad but the heat and light all he could think about was the pain somehow he had kept his sanity but the hangover feeling he felt after waking up was worst than if he slammed a full 5th of tequila " I'm just glad I get a break between treatments " Joseph felt like crying he stood up unsteady on his feet and walked over to the bathroom "I'm gonna take a hot bath and relax a bit" Joseph walked into the bathroom to find that there were no soaps and he hadn't even thought to bring any with him he sighed and went to call the main office "hello main offices of Gentech this is Kathy how can I help you?" Said a voice after the first ring "yes hello this is Joseph in building 10 room 111 i was wondering where I could go to get shower stuffs?" Much to his dismay he was sure he wouldn't be getting complimentary items like in a hotel " oh Joseph! That makes sense we have the latest in technology and functionality in all our housing units the shower has a tablet that will help you in dispensing any of 37 different types of shampoo and conditioner as well as the water being laced with a scented lotion that's great for your skin!" She said enthusiastically.

After a very refreshing bath Joseph wondered what else he was missing this apartment seemed normal but after the hidden tablet showed itself upon him entering the tub he found that the refrigerator also had a function that he could order food and drink of any kind and the company would deliver it directly to is front door still hot and/or cold with speed and efficiency he'd never seen as an average joe. It made him curious as to what he now had access to seeing as how neither the food or amenities cost him anything and he still had that 50,000 credits it was at least a years wages and rent food and other stuffs that use to cost now didn't it was mind boggling and also now that he wasn't allowed his stims he needed a new focus for his mind looking around he found that the only thing he was missing was a normal computer he once again felt that he would most likely be refused a computer unless he was being monitored maybe he could play a video game they're online but you could block all outside messages and just level in peace Joseph liked games where you not only level up but games that you get to build and design your world and he was good at setting goals then putting them into action.

After expressing interest in buying one of the latest full Emerson pods Joseph found out that he not only could buy it that there was a company discount apparently Gentech had a good relationship with Dream Skapes inc. First thing Joseph did was go to the receptionist and tell her about the system that caught his interest and she asked Joseph to wait after a short while a couple security guards showed up and before Joseph could panic the receptionist directed the security to escort Joseph to the computer lab which was a whole room in snitch Joseph voiced his needs and the A.I. Aided Joseph with his needs under the expert observations of the security guards.

Joseph ordered the very best of the best Dsk:5.0 that held a processor that could speed up time dilation to 60 times outside so spending a minute real time meant an hour in game many of the wealthiest people bought these for their kids because they held k-12 education capabilities and if their children were dedicated they could finish an entire education in a matter of 2-3 years meaning there could be 7-9 year olds that had a high school diploma it was literally a super computer aiding in the advancement of the human race. With the 65% discount that Gentech received Joseph paid a full 47,500 credits on the new system and spent another 600 credits buying a game that seemed interesting it was a build your own empire kind of game that required the players to level up their character while also building up a guild which could grow into a town and then a city then a province then a country and finally an empire it was one of the only offline games he could find due to not having access to the outside world the only problem was that the delivery would take 3 days and the installation also took several hours he hoped that it would happen whilst he was away.

As the next day came to pass Joseph was escorted to the cleansing room to once again go through the agonizing pain of having his very genetic structure altered forcefully a new sensation was brought to the surface of Joseph's mind it was like he could feel more and yet the pain didn't increase it was an odd feeling for sure as the treatment ended the sensation also seemed to fade it was something Joseph was not prepared for so it kind of distracted his mind from part of the pain and today Joseph could walk out on his own although shakily it seemed that every second day would be agony but the short breaks would definitely be a godsend. Doctor Git as always asked him a few questions to verify that he wasn't experiencing any weird feelings to ensure that the cleansing was set to the correct setting "are you feeling differently?" The doc asked " no just the deep bees in my skin feeling like last time." Joseph lied he wanted to keep this feeling because it made his experience more bearable the doctor nodded as this seemed to be the expected and desired route of his cleansing.

Joseph arrived at his rooms to find that his living room was now sporting a new pod it was about the size of the single person shuttles that would taxi people around at around 3 feet tall and 8 feet long with enough room for a larger man to sit inside it was a one size fits all kind of pod due to the jell that would form fit to the user Joseph turned on the huge device and watched as the massive multi processor bottom of the pod lit up and a momentary heat was felt right before the liquid nitrogen cooling made the machine only slightly warm to the touch Joseph smiled "this is going to be a welcome distraction."
