13 Chapter 13: The Moon Mansion

[Fraser’s Hill]

It was already late evening, and the drive up the winding road was precarious. “The Gap,” as the narrow road leading up to the hill resort was known, was notorious for its steep climb and ever-present fog.

It didn’t help that it was pouring. Bob switched to the off-road mode in his luxury model Land Cruiser to deal with the slippery conditions.

“Bob, it’s really foggy. Can you even see where you’re going?” Jackie muttered, a hint of nervousness in her voice.

“Don’t worry about it, Jackie. I drive up here all the time.”

She had never been to Fraser’s Hill before, but she read much about it. She knew it used to be an old colonial hill station -- a summer hill retreat to escape to during the hot, humid seasons of the lowlands.

It was a time of adventure and romance, and ever the romantic, such thoughts played on Jackie’s mind.
