Chapter 4 I Thought the Young Lady Wanted to Strike Up a Conversation with You

After a stable half-month internship, Su Nian, who had always been anxious about being discovered, finally relaxed a little.

Today was Monday's grand rounds, and Su Nian had stayed up too late reading books the night before; even her alarm hadn't woken her up.

She was shocked awake by an old dream and, upon checking her watch, realized she was close to being late; she grabbed a bag of milk with her mouth and hurriedly headed for the hospital.

The place where Su Nian lived wasn't far from the hospital; normally, it was just a twenty-minute walk, but today she was running late, so Su Nian took a cab as soon as she stepped out. While it was a bit of a detour, it would be faster than walking.

However, fifteen minutes had passed, and Su Nian was still stuck several blocks away from the hospital.

Unable to restrain a frown, Su Nian glanced at her watch and was about to ask the driver to let her off here when she heard from the traffic broadcast someone urgently reporting... They said there was an accident on the cross-river bridge: a school bus and a truck collided with a large coach, causing several vehicles, including the school bus and a large coach, as well as a few private cars, to plunge into the river, with multiple vehicles involved in collisions on the bridge... "This child's head was struck, but he hasn't lost consciousness. Based on a preliminary evaluation, the rib and left tibia are fractured..."

Su Nian looked up... Through the disordered crowd coming and going, their eyes met, and the man's voice abruptly stopped.

His furrowed brows relaxed almost instantly... becoming fixated, he looked at Su Nian with surprise.

After years of absence, the man still had his handsome features, but the youthful tenderness was gone, replaced by a suit and leather shoes that showcased an extraordinary mature charisma.

Beneath the profound contours of his eyes, a pair of ink-like pupils... reflected only Su Nian's pale and bloodless face.

Su Nian's body stiffened, her hand gripping the tree tightening slightly; she had envisioned such a scenario...

But despite having rehearsed it countless times in her heart, she still wasn't ready when it actually happened.

Upon their reunion, both felt as if they were separated by lifetimes.

There were bloodstains on his suit and on the side of the vehicle, dented from the impact, indicating... the man had come from the accident and had brought in an injured child.

The man's Adam's apple bobbed as he was about to step towards Su Nian, but he was recognized by the medical staff receiving patients at the hospital entrance.

"Dr. Jiang? You are... Dr. Jiang from Airen Private Hospital, right?"

Jiang Jingxing turned his head...

"It's really Dr. Jiang! I've seen you in magazines!" the young nurse exclaimed excitedly.

"Is Dr. Jiang here to help?"

Jiang Jingxing nodded perfunctorily with a light laugh and turned his head back, but he could only see Su Nian running towards the outpatient building; he subconsciously wanted to chase after her...

The abruptly stopped ambulance... blocked Jiang Jingxing's path.

A new batch of patients had arrived.

"Dr. Jiang... could you lend a hand, please!"

The young nurse who had recognized Jiang Jingxing earlier asked for his assistance, but Jiang Jingxing was not in the mood to pay any heed. He quickly squeezed out of the crowd, skirted the ambulance, and ignored the calls of the nurse behind him as he tried to chase Su Nian.

Watching Su Nian run farther and farther away, Jiang Jingxing was stopped... by the ambulances arriving one after another.
