First DADA Lesson

~~~(POV: Alexander Aevum)~~~
~~~(Location: Defense Against The Dark Arts)~~~

~~~(Date: September 2nd, 1991)~~~
~~~(Time: 2:15 PM)~~~

Professor Quirrell is stammering through the beginning of the lesson. The lesson itself is about Hags. Their characteristics and more rudimentary information about them.

I look around and see everyone writing in their notebooks. Many Gryffindors and Slytherins are trying not to be annoyed by Quirrells constant stammering.

It's becoming a real bother, making me regret there isn't a Spell to fix that. I feel the girl next to me bumping my elbow. Turning my head to her, I expect something.

"You should be writing this stuff down. It could be on a future test."

Greengrass tries to tell me what I'm doing wrong in a low whisper. I don't want to tell her I already know all this. That seems impractical.

"Well... Are you going to do something or not?"

She's a pushy one. I'd often ignore conversations like this, but as a Slytherin, she's very talkative.

After a smile and I look her in the eyes. A gentle smile forms on my lips, and I squint my eyes slightly.

"Worried about me?"

She looks away in slight embarrassment.

"I'm sure everyone will struggle on the test regardless... The man can't stop stuttering..."

She giggles lightly as I finish my whisper. I stare at her a little longer, and she notices. She turns her head slightly.

"Stop Staring... It's embarrassing..."

My, I didn't take a noble from such an old family to be embarrassed. I slowly turn my head away from her and stare at her from the side for a few more seconds.

She sees this and points toward the lesson on the board. Doing everything she can to get my eyes off her. I turn my eyes back to the board, and a small sigh of relief comes from her.

I crack another smile.

~~~(POV: Hermione Granger)~~~
This lesson could be so much better if we didn't have Quirrell. I've stopped paying attention to the lesson and have focused on Alexander and the Slytherin Girl he's talking to.
"Did you hear that Alexander has missed almost all his classes today... No one knows where he went... Wait till McGonagall finds out..."
I hear two boys behind me whisper. One is the familiar voice of Neville, and the other is a red-haired boy named Ron.
A boy I briefly met on the train.
How irresponsible of Alex to start skipping classes early in the school year. I watch as the Slytherin girl starts whispering to him again, and the slight smile on her face is evident.
I look at the rest of the first-year Slytherins and see that many don't like someone talking to a pure blood from their house.
"That's all for the lesson regarding Hags. Your assignment is to research them and give a one-page essay regarding their weaknesses and strengths. You have the rest of class to get started."
Professor Quirell stutters every word in that sentence.
Many people release groans and whine slightly. This doesn't bother Quirrell; he heads to the private office and closes the door.
I look at Alex and see he's already started on the paper. I follow suit and start writing myself. I write the first few words down with the ink and quill and look back at Alex.
I can't see his paper from here.
"Oooo... Granger is trying to get a look at Aevum!"
The boy I'm sitting next to decides to be funny. Finnigan is his name. I watch in embarrassment as Alex turns around to look at me. I also see the Slytherin girl do the same; her facial expression isn't amused like Alex's.
