20 Calculated Class Cutting

Professor Flitwick is a very impressive teacher. As the charms teacher, he is one of the most knowledgeable people on spells.

"I want you all to remember that magic can be dangerous if done incorrectly. The spells we are learning this year will be easy and have little risk. We'll build a foundation of correct wand movements and pronunciation."

I've got all the knowledge, and I've been practicing the wand movements ever since I got my wand. Due to the law, I wasn't allowed to cast magic, but I still practiced.

Many of the students are intensely listening to Professor Flitwick. I only look like I am. In truth, I'm in my head going through more advanced knowledge.

I found The Room of Requirement relatively fast this morning, and it truly is an effective way to practice magic privately. I even got to cast some spells in there before class.

I cast my custom-made spell Summa Exitium for the first time in the room against a wooden dummy. It works exactly as I've designed it to. The wooden dummy turned to dust instantly.

"Who can tell me the difference between Charms and Curses?"

Professor Flitwick asks the class a question, and only one person raises their hand. The Granger girl is determined to be the best student of the year.

She quickly answers the question after being selected and gives the right one. I smile and lean back in my chair. These classes are going to grow so much more boring, and that's my fault,

My thirst for knowledge has been so great that I'm far ahead in any of the classes to enjoy them.

If no one else knows, I'll give answers here and there, but I see no reason to stick out. The Charms class quickly passes, and we have 10 minutes to get to our next class. I'll be irresponsible and do practical training in The Room of Requirement.

Skipping class isn't something I would have done, but there is nothing new for me to learn in first-year classes. So I'm going to do what's best for me.

I make it to the seventh-floor corridor and stand across from the tapestry of the ballet-dancing trolls. I walk past the room three times, and the path to it opens.

I walk inside and see the room has adjusted to my needs. There are plenty of wooden dummies and ample open space. I walk into the center and decide to practice defense instead of offense.

There is no defense spell more important than Protego.

The room feels my need for an opponent, and the dummies suddenly gain wands and start casting spells.

I cast Protego without saying the word, and the spells they're throwing are constantly being neutralized, but soon I have a lapse in defense, and I'm sent flying. I lie flat on my back, staring at the ceiling.

"You should be in class right now, Alex."

I hear a familiar voice and look toward the entrance to the room. Albus is standing there, looking around, and seeing the room. I bet he already knew of its existence.

He looks back at me as I get up and approach him.

"I'm sorry, I don't have any legitimate excuse for skipping class. I know almost everything they're going to teach. Makes for boring classes."

Some classes in Hogwarts are far easier than others.

"The only class I can see myself needing to attend is Transfiguration. So I decided to be productive with my learning and came here to train."

Albus squints his eyes at me, and he wears a slight grin.

He pulls out his wand and walks deeper into the room.

"I admire your honesty, Alex. I'll allow this for classes other than Transfiguration."

This is great. Now I can train and learn at my own pace.

"However, you still need a supervisor and teacher. It just so happens my schedule is empty at the moment."

He turns toward me, holding his wand out to his side.

"I know I'm old, but I can still teach."

I hold my wand out to the side too.

"Your Protego is good, but let's work on it, shall we?"

I nod my head, waiting for instruction.
