3 Arriving late

"Oh shit! Is she in?" Lucas asked after gulping in a mouth full of fresh air to calm himself.

"Of course, she mig.…" Lucas added.

But before he could finish his words, Lucas flashed right past him and immediately headed inside through the doors.

"He didn't even let me finish" Lucas shook his head saying "Young kids of nowadays".

"OH!! AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROMOTION TODAY!!".

Lucien heard Lucas's voice echoing through the halls as he entered the elevator.

"THANK YOU!!" Lucien responded loudly as the elevator doors closed on their own.

A promotion. That was the reason he came early today. Now someone might be asking what kind of promotion he would be getting if he wasn't working in the cathedral.

But the truth was that he doesn't work in the cathedral, but instead he works with them.

How could something like that be possible? Well, it has to do with his profession.

And his profession was that of a…. Huntsman.

What is a huntsman if you may ask?

Is it a profession that deals in magic and supernaturals? Yes, it is.

Is it someone that takes care of the likes of banshees, werewolves, and witches? Yes, it is.

So they were more like the police force? Yes and no! Because their work is kind of complicated depending on the situation.

Ting!! Ting!!!

The doors of the elevator opened as Lucien finally stepped out.

"Excuse me! Coming through" The voice of a man wearing the organization's uniform which consists of a long sleeve grey shirt with a high collar, together with an emblem on the patch pockets of his shirt.

Looking at his uniform, Lucien could confirm that the man was a D-rank personnel.

And although it may not seem much, it means that they don't get to go on missions and could only stay in the headquarters doing paper works, and taking care of whatever documents it is that they were assigned.

"Sorry sir" The man said apologizing immediately as soon as he saw that the black colored trench coat was filled with grey stripes.

So he immediately knew that the person that he had almost collided against was at a much higher rank than him.

"No problem" Lucien replied as he saw that the man was carrying a very huge amount of files with his two hands, to the extent that it even blocked half of his vision.

So instead of getting mad, he merely brushed it off and walked away.

"Someday. I will also get the chance to wear that uniform" The man said with a smile as he watched Lucien walking away, while unknowingly tightening his hands together.

"Watch out!!" A person in front of him shouted as he had unknowingly lost his focus and collided with another person as the numerous amounts of paperwork came crashing down.

"Ouch!! Please I'm sorry".

Meanwhile, Lucien who had no idea what was happening behind him had finally arrived at the work table of Alice.

The woman that he was supposed to meet yesterday, but had unfortunately failed to do so. No, it was more like he had forgotten.

But even if he said that to her now; it would hardly be an excuse. Knowing her, he knew that what awaited him was a very painful headache mixed with an awful amount of lecture.

'Where is she? Didn't Lucas say that she was still around' Lucien thought to himself with raised brows as he saw that Alice's work table was empty and that there was nobody there.

"Don't tell me that she went home late after waiting for me" Lucien said to himself as he massaged his head in frustration immediately he recalled Lucas's words.

"No wonder that old man had that smirk on his face".

"Lucien is that you?" A voice came from the other side of the cubicle, with a head stretching upwards.

Lucien recognizing who it was could only smile as he responded "Good morning Suzanne".

"Good morning to you too Lucien" The woman called Suzanne said as she squinted her eyes at the man before her "By the way, why weren't you here yesterday. You know that Alice was waiting for you yesterday right?".

"Well, that is….You see I was...Cough!! Cough!!" Lucien faked a cough as soon as his words got stuck in his mouth.

"Ahh!! Look at you, you can't even form a proper sentence. You know I really feel pity for Alice" Suzanne said as she shook her head in pity "Because ever since she was paired with you, I knew that it would take her sometime before she graduates from being a D-rank"

"But in this case, I guess she might as well do it for the rest of her life".

"I get it Suzanne, but this is none of your concern. You do know the punishment for trying to provoke a rank higher than yours right" Lucien said as he eyed the woman

Suzanne was Alice's neighbor at the other side of the cubicle. They arrived at the organization together, but because of some various unfortunate circumstances -which was him, Suzanne had the most chances of being promoted to a C-rank personnel.

While Alice, well let's just say that if care is not taken, she might be demoted to a F-rank personnel or become a D-rank for the rest of her life.

The life of a normal human being was already hard enough. But the life of a huntsman was even harder.

"Tchh...Tchhh…Don't count your hopes up just because you are going to be promoted today. Besides, let's see how that works out for you today" Suzanne said with a smirk as she looked at Lucien before heading back to her work.

"Haa... The vixen is finally gone" Lucien said loudly for Suzanne who was on the other side to hear his voice clearly.

"Hmph.." A reply was immediately heard as Lucien could only sigh in frustration as he didn't really like deadly with these types of women.

'She is really getting irritating every single day that my ears are beginning to actually hurt' Lucien thought to himself as he used a thumb to clean out his ears.
