5 DANGER LURKS EVERYWHERE

Callan is now standing on his feet, staring at me like I was no longer the person that he once knew. I did not say another word, I just sat there, with my nerves in a bunch, waiting for him to say something to me that would help with the current situation. Time was slowing passing, and he was staring at me not saying anything. I raised my eyebrows at him, trying to urge him to say something. It was almost like the cat got his tongue. His eyes were full of shock, more shock than I had ever seen in them before. I frowned at that, trying to think of a way to get him to focus again. It was not that big of a deal, so why is he acting like that? I waved my hand in front of his face, hoping to get to at least blink if nothing else. He did not do anything though, no twitch of his hands or eyebrows, not even a small blink. I was beginning to get worried, with him not saying or doing anything.

“Callan! I need you to do something or say something! You are scaring me!” I finally yelled out at him. He blinked a couple of times, and took a deep breath in, pushing his hands through his hair, and looked at me once again. Finally, I know he is alive, and I know I do not have to worry.

“Yeah, sorry, I was shocked. I did not expect the prince of hell to be here. We thought it was just demons.” He stated numbly. I frowned at him, confused as to why they would be worried about that. He did not look like he was up to no good or doing anything bad. Yes, I understood he is supposed to be the enemy, but if he was not doing anything to make us attack then why bother? That is the only thing I could think of. I am sure everyone would be disappointed in me if they understood what exactly I was thinking about this creature. I did not even understand why I was thinking it.

“Okay, its fine. But can you please explain to me why you were acting like that?” I spoke, crossing my arms over my chest, suddenly feeling vulnerable. He nodded his head.

“We knew that he would eventually come to earth to patrol to see how he would end this world, we just didn’t expect him to come so soon.” He said out loud. He looked as if he was pondering over something, which only made me frustrated. He needed to share his thoughts.

“Like how?” I asked, trying to pry more information out of him. He was staring at me once again. He did not look angry or anything, he just looked severely agitated.

“That is what we don’t know. Did you speak to him or fight with him?” He asked. He should have known the answer to that one. I would not have come around someone like that, and not had fight or talk with them. I rolled my eyes, trying not to get annoyed now. He was still not answering any of my questions.

“Obviously. We fought, after I made certain who he was. He thought I was a human until I fought back.” I spoke sarcastically. It was his turn to roll his eyes at me. I wanted to laugh, but I did not, knowing right now was not the time.

“He thought you were a human. Why did you let him know different? You should not have fought back.” He spoke, using his commanding tone. I blinked a couple of times, raising my eyebrows at him. He could not be serious right now.

“Not fight back? That would have been an awfully bad idea because I am sure that I would not be standing here right now. His fists turned into fire because he was going to kill me.” I spoke, trying to cover the shock that laced my voice. That was unexpected coming from him.

“Either way, you could have got yourself killed, and that would be the last thing any of us needs right now. For now, on, if you plan to go exploring after you get done with the mission assigned to you, you are to let me know so that I can make sure that I am with you to protect you!” He commanded. I swear if we had neighbors, I would feel awfully bad for them because of how loud he was being about this. They would be able to overhear the whole situation that was being talked about right now. I rolled my eyes, sitting back in my chair once again.

“You do realize that I am an adult right? I do not need your or anyone else’s protection, I can handle myself. I went through training for a reason.” I spoke coldly, returning the same glare that he was currently giving me.

“Think what you want to. We will let the higher-ups decide that when they get here in the morning.” He argued. I dropped my jaw and stared at him with pure rage. He seriously did not have to send them a message to come down here, I had it handled already. As I told him, I did not need anyone’s help or protection. I can handle this on my own, just like I did earlier today. Well, I somewhat handled it today.

“Are you serious right now? Why am I the one being treated like a child here?” I raised my voice in return. It is annoying to be treated like that and he knows that better than anyone else. He used to complain about being treated like that from his parents all the time. I have even had to tell him to shut up before, rudely.

“Yeah! I am serious! This needs to be handled, before things get bad.” He spoke in a duh kind of tone. I rolled my eyes once again.

“Get bad? I had it handled! And besides, where do you expect to find him at? In case you have forgotten, HE DISSAPEARED!” I yelled at him once again. He blinked a couple of times, taking a couple steps back from me. I could feel my face burning up from being angry, which would mean that my face was turning red. It always does when I became indignant. It was not often I got like that but when I did, everyone always made sure to clear my path in the opposite directions. They did not want to be in the crossfire.

“Since when did you develop that kind of voice?” He asked exasperated. It was obvious he did not expect my tone, but I was not sure what exactly he was talking about. I tilted my head to the side, staring at him with the unspoken question of what he meant. When he did not answer, I sighed, straightening myself up.

“What voice are you talking about? My voice is the same as it has always been.” I spoke, making a final attempt to cool myself down. Nothing was working so far. So much for that then.

“You had a commanding tone, like a leadership kind of tone. Like… Gods.” He pushed out. He did not want to, and I could see that, but he got it out anyways. I frowned at his lack of words now, still confused by what he meant.

“I don’t know what you are talking about.” I spoke. He sighed, rolling his eyes, and walked over to the kitchen door and looked at her one last time.

“Never mind, do not worry about it. But you might want to hurry up and get some sleep after eating. The higher-ups will be here early in the morning.” He spoke one last time, before walking out of the kitchen.

I stared after him, wishing at this moment that I could see through doors or something, but knew that was impossible. Coming from the old friendship that we once had, it made me want to go apologize, and comfort him the best I could. I growled, pushing that idea out of my head, and went back to cooking. At some point, him and the rest needed to learn that I am grown, and can now defend for myself, and do not need anyone there to save me or ride in a shining white pony or something. I sighed loudly to myself, watching my food as it cooked. At this point, I was just ready to eat my dinner, and head off to bed before anything else can make me angry like I am now. The fact that it was starting to feel like I was not being trusted here, made me feel like there is something that is not being told to me. They have not given off any hints that there is something to be hidden, but why would they? I could be wrong, but I was sure that I was not. It would explain how Callan was acting and everything else that was happening.

I felt like my food was cooked enough, so I slid it onto a plate, taking a seat at the counter again. I cleared my mind in hopes that I was going to get to enjoy my food and worry about nothing else, but fate had different plans for me. Callan stormed back into the kitchen, making me roll my eyes at his Malo-dramatic entrance, and continued to eat my food. He opened the refrigerator, slamming it closed after a few minutes, causing me to look up at him in wonder. ‘I thought he was going to bed?’ I thought to myself, still watching him curiously. He turned, catching my glaze as I looked at him, and he lifted his eyebrows, and glared.

“What are you staring at?” He seethed out in anger. I blinked at him, raising my eyebrows. What has got into him now?

“What is your issue?” I questioned coldly. He breathed in and out with his hands at his side balling into fists and letting go every five minutes. His forehead was covered in sweat, and I could practically hear his heart beating rapidly against his chest. He was angrier than what he was earlier but this time it was obviously directed at someone else.

“The stupid higher-ups! They expect to be respected, but they don’t give respect in return!” He yelled, closing his eyes to try and calm himself down. I raised my eyebrows at him in confusion.

“What? Did they say that they are not coming in the morning?” I asked in triumph. Maybe luck would be changing in my favor. I am sure that was hardly the case though.

“Oh no, they are still coming. But now they are mad, because they think I am not a good protector, because I did not trust you with the whole prince of hell thing!” He was back to yelling again. I wanted to yell back at him, because normally, that is what I would do, but I could tell that he needed someone to talk to about this apparently.

“Well, what did you expect? I told you that I could handle it on my own and did not need intervention. No offense, but sometimes you just got to let people grow up, and not be treated like a child.” I spoke as calmly as I could in hopes to not make him angrier than he already was. Yet again, I was wrong since he just growled loudly at me like he was animal. He was fixing to say something else until a loud banging noise sounded and the kitchen door opened, and the head higher-up walked in giving me a kind smile.

“Looks like I joined this party just in time. Hello Sarai, how are you doing tonight?” He asked, making sure to be formal. I smiled at him in return.

“I have calmed down from previous arguments. How are you?” I questioned in return. He nodded his head at me noting he was doing good and turned his attention to Callan.

“Why are you calling me down here for something like this? You know that the situation is and what the two possible outcomes could be.” He spoke coldly towards him. I furrowed my eyebrows, listening to the conversation.

“Yeah, I know that, but I did not want either one of them happening this quickly, and it concerned me. That is why I called you.” He argued. He did not want what to happen this soon? They are hiding something from me, that is for sure.

“It does not matter when it happens, let it play out. It is supposed to, its her destiny.” He spoke coldly once again. Hearing him say that had me on my feet staring in between both. This is about me, so therefore I believe I should know what is going on too.

“Okay, I am done listening. What are the two of you talking about? What is my destiny?” I questioned rather loudly. More loudly than what I thought since both turned and looked at me shocked.

“Callan, when did she start using that tone?” He questioned, keeping his eyes on me.

“That just started this evening.” He spoke. I rolled me eyes. Leave it up to MEN to change the subject. I was not going to have that.

“Do NOT change the subject on me. I want the truth, and I don’t want anything left out!” I yelled, getting angry again like I was earlier this evening. Can I not have a peaceful evening around here? I feel for the humans if it is like this all the time down here. They are both staring at me in astonishment, saying nothing else now. The silence did not last if I had hoped that it would.

“You might want to watch your tone with me young lady!” The higher-up spoke. The tone of his voice gave me chills causing the hairs on my arms to stand up. He had me so unnerved from it, that it literally felt like the air was being taken from my lungs. I took a sharp breath in, and breathed out slowly, trying to get myself on a regular breathing path once again.

“I honestly don’t know what voice you are talking about. I am sure I am using my regular tone.” I spoke, staring at both furrowing my eyebrows together once again in confusion. The higher-up sighed, rubbing his temples with his pointing finger.

“Okay, so if you are not hearing yourself in that voice then it just started. That is the voice god uses to command us. When it is used, we must listen. It was a struggle not to obey you just then.” He spoke, still rubbing his temples. I crossed my arms over my chest and lifted an eyebrow at him. This was interesting news. I would have to practice using that voice for future conversations.

“Well, that is something interesting to hear, but you are getting off topic again, and I want to know what it was that you were talking about? And can I make demons listen to me with that voice as well?” I spoke curiously. The higher-up was now staring me incredulously.

“How have you not forgotten about that conversation? Anyways, that is not a conversation that you need to know about right now. You will be told when the time is right. And yes, you can use it on demons as well. After all, Lucifer use to be an angel as well.” He spoke.

“What if she makes the wrong decision?” Callan stepped in and asked. I watched as the higher-up looked at Callan and glared. Oh, if only looks could kill. I am almost sure Callan’s head would be gruesomely chopped off right now.

“Do you not know how to SHUTUP?” He yelled over at Callan. His eyes got big, and he stepped back, looking down at the floor indicating that he was not going to say nothing else. The higher-up let out another sigh. He was stressed and I could see it, very clearly. Anyone could at this point, I am sure.

“So, you are not going to tell me about that conversation?” I asked abruptly. The man rolled his eyes, shaking his head in irritation.

“No, I am not. When the time is right, you will be told. That time is not right now. For now, you will need to do just what you were sent down here for and focus on that alone.” He commanded. Normally, his commanding tone gets to me like it does everyone else, and I would shrink back. This time, I just stood and stared at him blankly, making him give me a confused expression.

“I personally no longer see why I need to do that.” I spoke, keeping my tone simple as to try not to anger him. Even though I did anyways. For a moment, everything was still and silent, and the next I was flying across the room hitting the wall roughly with my back. Before I could fall on the floor from the sudden impact, the higher-up was right in front of me, pinning me to the wall with his across my neck. I stared at him in shock, trying to breath as he was mostly cutting off my air supply. I seriously hope he was not stupid enough to kill the princess of heaven. That would be treason. He leaned in slowly that way his mouth was right at my ear.

“Now you listen to me. Just because you are god’s daughter, does not mean that I WILL NOT put you in your place! You are not yet strong enough to fight me and take me down! I would crush you! Do I make that noticeably clear for you?!” He spat out coldly. For a moment, I did not answer him, out of shock for what he is doing. I still did not feel like his commands shifted my mind into listening, and I did not fear him. I just did not want to die from lack of oxygen because I did not get the chance to defend myself. He moved away from my ear, and now was staring at me patiently waiting for me to answer him. Struggling to take a breath in, I nodded my head in hopes that he would let me go. He smiled innocently at me, then moved away so I could breathe again. I dropped to the floor, gasping as air started flowing freely through me once again. Callan ran over to me, squatting down beside me to make sure that I am okay, as he helped me back to my feet since I no longer had an arm on my throat. I looked at the higher-ups back as he walked towards the kitchen door, only pausing to look back at us once again. I gave him the coldest stare that I could, still trying to catch my breathe.

“I will take you down one day, just make sure you bare that in mind.” I whispered out. I knew he heard me, but I did not care. I wanted him to. The smile that was on his face was gone, and he stared at the both of us, not saying a word or moving. After he watched us for a minute and disappeared into thin air. I assumed he went back to heaven. I sighed in relief, bending forward with my hands on my knees, still trying to catch my breath. Callan patted my back, trying to assist me as well.

“I am sorry, I did not realize he was going to do all that. I have never seen him act like that before.” He spoke quietly. I glanced at him and looked back at the floor. I no longer felt like talking, I just wanted to lay down and go to sleep. I was done with today after all of that.

“It’s okay Callan. You could not have known, but I am off to bed. I need some rest and very much needed sleep.” I spoke, glancing at him once again. He nodded his head, moving his hand away from my back and placing it at his side. I slowly walked away from him, and out of the kitchen.

After changing into some comfortable pajamas, I laid down in my bed and pulled the covers over me. I am almost sure I am going to have a bruise on my neck from earlier, so I would not be leaving the house for the next couple of days. That was another thing that sucked about being an angel; We bruise extremely easy. It is annoying, yes, I know, but there was nothing any of us could do about it. We just had to give it time to heal before we could do anything. Our bodies were not meant to be harmed; however, danger lurks everywhere, it seems. It hurts to know that, but there is no changing it. I used to believe there was nothing bad in heaven, but after all that with the higher-up, I now knew that I was wrong. I wish there were something I could do to prove who he was to the others, but I knew that would be impossible. I felt one single tear slip from my eye, and that would be the last one.
