53 At Her Door

It would be a lie to say that Daphne slept well that night.

No matter how much she tossed and turned, the same image of a small boy would resurface in her mind.

At first, she saw Adir in her dreams, crying for his father as the world burned down around him. Suddenly, Adir's face morphed into another golden-haired young boy with tears streaming down his face. Although Daphne didn't know how old he was, he seemed to be small even for his age.

His face bore certain similarities to someone she knew, but other than the familiar pair of amber eyes, she couldn't quite remember where she might have seen this boy before. He was so familiar yet so distant.

He let out silent screams of horror, pure terror in his eyes. There was an infinite piece of glass separating the two of them, muffling his cries. No matter how hard she pounded on the invisible barrier, she couldn't break it to hear what he was saying.
