66 An Unpleasant Gift

Everyone in the Northern Kingdom knew that His Majesty obliged to the Grand Minister's every wish. Once he heard that she was sent by the Grand Minister's daughter, he couldn't do anything against her.

The maid tried to soothe out her hurried breathing, straightening her back. She had nothing to worry about. All she had done was to go against a lowly consort from a kingdom that was of no more. A war prize was worth even less than her, a free woman.

Plus, she had been given her explicit orders to fluster up the new consort. All she was doing was her job. 

The two of the people standing in front of her remained silent. 

Clearing her throat, the maid repeated herself again. "Your Majesty, I brought a gift from Her Ladyship, Meira." 

He must have not just been able to parse through her worried stammer from before. 

"A gift, you say?"

She nodded. 

"What's in the box?"
