The Move

Chapter 1 'The Move'

AN: Sorry this was so late! My WiFi had crashed and I couldn't enter or work Wattpad or Webnovel. Still, hope this chapter suits your taste. And sorry for the horrible details of designing, I am not that good at the subject lol.

Steven's POV:

The Screams. The Blood. Crying. Darkness.

Please...Make it stop!

The screams are growing louder and louder.  The screams fill my senses, making me feel intoxicated by it.

Make it stop! Please! Stop! I felt my body shaking at the noises. All I saw was darkness but the noises felt real. The crying resumed. Who's crying!?

Elisabeth.

No. Elisabeth don't leave me! Please!

"Please!" I screamed, but who could hear me? The noises grew louder and louder until...

My eyes snap open. The late afternoon sun was beaming in through the crack in the curtains that covered my windows. My body was covered in a thin layer of cold sweat.

Another nightmare.

I groaned and rolled over, getting out of bed. I walked into my bathroom to brush my teeth and get ready for the rest of the day. The moment I walked out of the bathroom, I expected my room to be covered in clothes, only to find everything packed in boxes.

Right….we're moving.

It's been a week since the funeral. I felt myself slowly dying. I felt as if my life was being sucked out of my body and my happiness was forced to come out of my eyes in the form of water. I am lost without her. I could still feel her touch. I could still smell her scent. It was just a reminder of everything I was and what I can't have anymore.

That's why Josh picked this time to start packing everything and getting everybody ready. And I couldn't agree more. How was I going to be the Alpha my people need me to be if I'm a weak pup? The memories here….it would tear me apart.

"Alpha!" Josh mindlinked me from downstairs.

Speak of the devil and he shall appear.

"Coming." I huffed back.

I made my way out of my bedroom, not caring what I look like, and headed downstairs to see why Josh was mindlinking me in the first place.

The walls were bare as I descended down the stairs. We packed all the pictures yesterday. I wouldn't be able to look at them anyway. I'd just break down crying. I felt my wolf whimper at the thought.

When I got to the living room, he wasn't there, so I just headed to the kitchen instead. In the kitchen I found him with his mate and my Delta at the dining table.

"Hey!" Josh shouted, surprised to actually see me outside of my room.

"What do you want?" I asked, my voice hoarse from crying too much. I headed toward the cabinets to get some breakfast or lunch. I don't know. Probably lunch, but who cares?

I rummaged until I found the perfect food item.

Captain Bite!

I mean who doesn't like Captain bite? Best. Cereal. Ever.

"Well, we only have a few more things to pack in here then we are all ready." Josh informed as he got up and opened a box. He pulled out the bowl and spoon I was so desperately looking for.

"Thanks." I mumbled as he handed them to me.

He nodded in response.

I sat down with my food and just as I was about to take a bite, I noticed everyone quietly looking at me.

"What?" I asked, stuffing my face with a spoon full of Captain Bite.

"Nothing uh, when we get there, are you sure you don't want to stay in the pack house?" My Delta, Ben, asked.

"Yeah. I'm sure." I grunted. I wouldn't be able to handle all the pity filled stares I would get.

They stayed quiet and I went back to eating my cereal with my sad thoughts running deep in my mind.

After a while, we were all set to leave. Everyone was in their cars and taking off.

I stood outside of the pack house, where Elisabeth and I lived. I took one final look at where we met, where we got married, where we were planning to spend the rest of our lives, and said goodbye. One of the hardest things I have ever done.

I got in the van that housed Josh, his mate, Ben, and his mate. Josh was driving while I was in the passenger seat and the girls were in the very back talking about who knows what, Ben was all alone in the middle seat, but luckily he was asleep.

As Josh started taking off, I choked on a sob. I'm leaving her all alone.

Josh noticed and patted my shoulder,"Don't worry. We'll come back and visit from time to time, Yeah?"

I nodded.

It's pathetic how a grown Alpha needs his Beta to reassure him. I need to be strong for my pack. I'm not the only one that lost someone, they lost a Luna. I need to shape up.

All of a sudden, a memory flashed in my head.

'It was the middle of the night where I met Elisabeth. We were both standing in the middle of the woods. Holding hands and looking up at the sky.

"Promise me, Steven, that you'll be the backbone for this pack in time of need," she stated looking at me. Her eyes were full of hope and seriousness.

The question was out of the blue so I stumbled for an answer.

"Of course I will." I nodded with my eyebrows pulled together in confusion, even though a small smile played on my lips.

"Promise me Steven. A promise that cannot be broken." She urged.

"Alright."

I got down on one knee in front of her and put my right hand on my heart and my left hand behind my back.

"I promise a promise that cannot be broken. That I will be the backbone of this pack in time of need." I then looked at the moon and howled the promise.

After I finished howling, I heard her mumble a 'thank you'.'

I was taken back to the present when we hit a speed bump on the borderline of our pack.

It took me a minute before I realized I had made a promise that I was breaking.

I wasn't being the backbone this pack needed. But I will be from now on. I need to be the Alpha of this pack.

The second speed bump we hit marked our four hour long drive to the new territory.

Five hours later, because of all the pit stops, we arrived at the new pack land. This land apparently was for sale real cheap including all the houses. I wonder why?

We all unbuckled and started getting out of the van to stretch and look around. The sun was just now setting, so everyone else was already at their individual houses or at the pack house.

We were currently at the house I'll be staying in.

It was a gorgeous, three-story, log cabin house. It had a stone walkway, a stone in-cased pond with little green lights lighting it up, a beautiful top covered patio, a stone chimney, a deck on the front side, and different plants scattering the back and front yard. I haven't even gone inside yet.

After our little 'wow' moment, we decided to check out the inside as well. It was jaw dropping beautiful.

When you first walk in, the walls are covered in rustic stained wood. The foyer has a black marble table with a light brown couch facing a small brick fireplace.

When you walk out of the foyer there is a kitchen to your left and a living room to your right. A staircase right in front. To the left of the foyer is a rustic, stained wood wall that covers the small dining room.

The kitchen had dark marble countertops, wood cabinets that had a glass see through front, and light grey marble flooring. An all black marble island sat in the middle with wood stools all around it.

The small dining area had maroon table matt's on the dark, stained wood table. Towards the end of the small dining area is a backdoor leading outside.

Going back to the living room, there were light cedar floors, a flat screen TV on the wall with the staircase, a small closet on the left of the TV, a buck-skin-tan l-shaped couch, and a dark, round wood table in the middle. There were lamps, bookshelves, and a few windows decorating the walls of the living room.

Going up the stairs, there is a guest bedroom, master bedroom, both with adjoining bathrooms, and a study.

Not bothering with the guest bedroom or study, I headed straight for my room, the master bedroom.

I opened the doors and was met with a dark but modern room. The bed had a black and grey comforter with navy blue pillows. Across from the bed was a vanity with a smart TV on top and the rest of the room was bare.

Two other doors aligned the room. The closest to the entry door was probably the closet, and the one on the other side of the bed was most-likely the bathroom.

The wall on the opposite end of the room from where I was, was all glass leading out on a balcony.

The house was big, beautiful, but weird.

I get this weird chill up my back the more I stay in this house.

"Alpha!" Josh screams from downstairs.

I feel like I've been in this situation before.

I throw the two suitcases I carried up here on the bed and rush down to see what he wants. I come down to see all of them sitting at the island with food in front of them.

Food. I want food. Food helps everything. That's a fact.

I sit down opposite of them, eagerly waiting to see if there is anything for me. Alexis, Josh's mate, slides me a plate of spaghetti noticing my eagerness for food.

"This place is big and gorgeous." Phoebe, Ben's mate, compliments looking around.

"Yeah, but doesn't it feel weird?" I ask everyone with my mouth full.

"Steven, manners, please. And yes, I feel super weird staying in here. I just thought it was only me." Ben scolds then shivers looking around.

I rolled my eyes at his first comment.

"Oh well, we're not staying here." Josh comments, smirking looking at me.

"Shut up." I growl.

After helping me somewhat set up, they eventually left. It was pretty late and they said something about sleep. Whatever that is.

Now I was all alone.

I was sitting on the bed looking out the window, wandering why such a beautiful place was for sale for so cheap. It all seems weird to me. Too weird.

After thinking a little bit more on the matter, I decided to just enjoy the move. It will eventually help me cope.

I need to shape up. I need to look at the future instead of the past.

'You need to go to sleep.' Ashton, my wolf, scolds.

'I don't know what sleep is, remember?'

'Shut up and go to sleep, Steven.'

'Yes, sir.'

I mocked solute him in my head.

I wonder how that works.

With that question fresh in my mind, I tried to get a good, deep sleep for once, so I could get up early and get a good start on the day.

If only my body would let me.
