The Thief [Chapter 6]

Blankk and I slowly walk through the town, keeping an eye on everyone around us. We see several townsfolk watching us as well. Ahead, we see a large metal building with glass windows.

"That must be the Guild Association's station for this town."

I say as Blankk laughs slightly.

"Considering it's the fanciest and most fortified building around, I'd have to agree with you."

He replies while we walk towards it. As we get closer we hear yelling and arguing in the tavern beside us. We look over and we see several people standing up and yelling through the window. I quickly jog over and open the door.

"That son of a bitch is cheating?! A perfect opening hand four out of ten games, that has to be cheating!"

A large burly man yells as a small man with black wings and black hair puts his hands up.

"I can promise you I'm not cheating, I'm just lucky."

He says, almost taunting him to get even angrier. I quickly step forward and sit at the table.

"Three rounds. I'll make my judgement at the end of the three rounds. Hey, big man, you deal out cards."

I say as the black haired man smiles and puts his hands on the table and nods. The big guy beside me laughs and takes the cards.

"Get ready to be ripped off, this kid has been stealing our money all day."

He growls as he starts shuffling. Blankk taps the table.

"So what are you betting?"

Blankk asks as the man across from me puts a few pouches of coins on the table. I sigh and shake my head.

"I really don't want your money, but I'll bet every last coin on my being right now. But, if I win, I want you to follow me."

I say as the man smiles and extends his hand to shake.

"My name is Azeroth. You should at least know the name of the man who took everything you have."

He says as I shake his hand and sigh.

"Dante. You should at least know the name of the man you lost too when you became too cocky."

I reply as he laughs.

"This is a game of luck, and I'm one of the luckiest men alive."

He says as the big man deals him two cards, then me. As I see Azeroth look at his cards and smile, I quickly glance at my hand. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Azeroth jerk his arm.

"I'm not sure what we're playing, but is this a good hand?"

I ask as I flip over my cards. Azeroth stares in shock for a moment before flipping his hand. Blankk speaks up.

"So Azeroth has an Ace of diamonds and ten of hearts, while Dante had an Ace of hearts and a king of diamonds. I can only assuming the game is twenty-one, in which case, that's a tie."

He says as I look at him.

"What are the point values of twenty-one?"

I ask as Azeroth speaks up before Blankk can. I see Azeroth flip his cards back over and jerk his hand slightly.

"Cards one to ten give the points of whatever the number of the card is. Kings, queens, and jacks all give ten points. An ace gives one or eleven points."

Asteroth says as he stares at me, almost happily. The big guys speaks up again.

"There's no way to cheat with me dealing unless you both have cards hidden somewhere."

He says as he quickly deals another set to each of us. Azeroth quickly speaks up.

"Natural!"

He says as he flips his hand to reveal an ace of diamonds and a queen of diamonds. I sigh and flip my hand as well. An ace of hearts, and a jack of clubs. Azeroth grits his teeth and laughs nervously.

"Looks like there's other lucky people in the world."

He says as I formulate a idea.

If my idea is correct, then my luck right now should be fifty times greater than a normal person.

I think as the big guy quickly deals out cards. I see Azeroth's face get slightly worried as he quickly looks up and locks eyes with me. As he turns over his hand, he sneers.

"Looks like it might not have been your lucky day."

He replies as I see another ace of diamonds, and a jack of hearts. I sigh and scratch my neck.

"Allow me to explain why today is the unluckiest day for you, Azeroth."

I say as I glare at him. He scoots back slightly, but remains fixated on me.

"You may be lucky, yes. But if you're going to cheat, you might want to work on it a bit more. You've played an ace of diamonds every game."

I say as he laughs.

"My luck is just that good. Can't fault me for having good luck, can you?"

He asks while laughing.

"No, I can't."

I reply as I flip my hand. Ace of diamonds, and a king of hearts. He stares at it for a second before jumping to his feet and pointing his finger at me.

"You must've cheated! Or, maybe there's two ace of diamonds in that deck!"

He shouts as the big guy rears his fist back to attack Azeroth. I quickly stand up and block his punch with my right hand.

"Now, personally, I have nothing against cheating. Even though my whole life has been a series of unfortunate events and unlucky experiences, I see cheating as a way to get by."

I say as I push the large man back onto the ground.

"And now that you've agreed to join me, I can't have others hurting what belongs to me."

I say as Azeroth nods and stutters.

"R-right! Yea I, uh, I'm with Dante!"

He replies as he walks behind me. As the large man stands up he glares down at me.

"Dante, is it? What class are you?"

He asks as I laugh and turn away to start walking out.

"Remember my name. Dante Fenrix, Class-F."

I reply as I exit the tavern, Blankk and Azeroth following behind me.
